If one has read at least 20 shoujo manga (be it a complete manga, one shot, or a still ongoing series), one may find at least one cliche moment, theme, character, etc. in each one.

Yet, why is it that we still go 'aww' (or at least me)? Why is it that we continue or discontinue reading the manga?

Please take a few minutes to write down a cliche moment you see often enough to hate or love, and name the series you've seen it in. =) The more the titles the more cliche! =)

Mine: Male/Female Harems.
- Somehow a male or female character ends up in a situation where the other characters, and love interest, are of the opposite sex.
-- Examples: Five, Host Club, Love Hina. etc.
Comments: Though this may not always be the worst, it can get a bit boring.

[admin, could you take the 'worst' out of the title?]

the one i find funny is the cliche childhood friend introduced usually 1/2 way into mangas as the primary love rival, lol its in pretty much every shoujo manga ive ever read and for some reason i find them amusing probably because i know they are coming and i just have fun figuring out when they will be introduce

I've read a lot of shoujo mangas, and so far I haven't found any to have those sort of cliches. what I really hate is a mushy happy ending that just.. completely pops up like a wall in the middle of nowhere. I really love when the conflict builds up and slowly dies. I know it always makes us happy when the main character goes with the one we'd all expect him/her to but... it doesn't hurt for it to have a twist =D

err.. I hope that made sense ehee ^-^

I think it's funny how often people get hit by cars in manga. and it's usually after they've pushed someone else out of the way.

I agree. I've seen that in one manga: "Good Father" ch1. The boy saved his girlfriend. I've also seen that in tragic mangas mainly though.

I find it particulary funny how fast people (in a manga) get seriously ill from walking in rain or staying in the bath too long smile
It always starts with a cold !
They should get some more white bloodcells bigrazz

lol really looking through all my shoujo stuff i find most of what everyone points out, also if u want that twist thing check out zettai kareshi, its one of the reasons i refuse to read it again lol. not saying anymore

another point, anyone notice how bishounen always get girls when there really arent guys like that lol? and also how do they get theyre hair spikey yet flowing at the same time? wish i had hair like that....

How about the main girl and guy character falling in love. Not every shoujo has to turn into an all out romance, mangaka's...

I'm not really a shoujo manga reader, but I do read some from time to time.
And I must admit the thing that gets on my nerves the most is that pretty, super cool, hyper intelligent, and all that makes perfection bishonen...
It just pushes the limit to what my brain is able to accept. A guy that looks like a girl can't beat a thug (meaning experienced fighter) measuring 2m25 and probably weighting over 130 kilo (And that is without any evident martial arts training). He just beats him because he is cool like that... no need to explain the reason.
Or how that guy can be such a jerk and still get away with it... just because he is cool like that (and probably had a sad past and yadadi yadada...)

But as I said, I didn't read that much shoujo so I can't tell really well.

cliche i hate.. How the main guy (usually misunderstood, evil, but sexy male main character with a hidden good side) continues to have his way with the simpering heroine, despite her yelling "No! No! Please..No!" ... geez.. if you REALLY don't want to be there that much.. .. kick the boy where it hurts and point and laugh (or run like hell.. whichever makes you happy).

imo cliches are great as long as you can get attached to the main characters who are cliched

i love the sappyness =D

Meh, it gets kind of annoying when the main female character is supposedly unattractive/normal and yet somehow gains the attention of multiple bishounens. I absolutely HATE love triangles (sure, they're interesting, but I always end up feeling really guilty/bad ;-;). And, as someone already mentioned, having an old childhood friend as a love interest gets kind of predictable after a while...

As for clichés that are used waaay too often (but don't necessarily get annoying), it always seems like a guy ends up walking in on a girl who's taking a bath (or vice versa) or changing (meh, just anything that involves the male character seeing the female character in a state of undress). Angst-ridden pasts also end up showing up a lot in almost all characters (perfect example = Furuba), but I rather enjoy them (yay for angst~).
