The thing with afascinante is I think it's just because they're trying to avoid the cease and desist order by the anti-scanlation coalition (I heard somewhere that they're going through the alphabetic order). Besides, I don't think their scanlation rules are TOO strict. They put password, yes, but at least it was on the mediafire page. They don't hide the password either, it's right there whereas other groups hide it so you have to block it or answer a question or God knows what. Personally I hate groups that put password on their files, I would have the file in my folder and when I try to open it weeks later I had to fish out the password from their archive somewhere in the interwebz. I just delete it.

Regarding the 'Don't Distribute elsewhere!' is I believe there to protect the group, just as Arigatomina has already explained.

Sure they down own the material as much as you and I don't own it. But remember that they put their time and effort on it, and don't want to end up ruining their life and family with copyright infringement lawsuit. It only makes sense that they would try to protect themselves and their subordinates in the group by limiting the files that goes around, and probably protecting YOU too from such an ordeal.

Most groups I know are not fishing for posts or thank yous or anything like that. They just want to share what they love, without risking the safety of the founder and his/her staff.

Some groups though have weird distribution policy, but a policy's a policy. Shinmakoku especially have a weird way to obtain their releases... by e-mailing the coordinator for the download links. Yeeeeah... I'll just look for their scans elsewhere, thank you.

Quote from mumhu
Stating that I am being specific here.

I am shocked that AF decided to be a closed scan group. I've been watching them for almost two years when I went to abstinence (from BL stuffs) because of personal reason. *it's in my head too often, lol* Now, I am so ready to get some BL goodies and I can get any of their stuff. I'm not a member because it was not a requirement before. I was free to choose whatever I want and they have seriously good stuff with quite wide range of authors.

They said I have to thank those people who puts them at risk, those people who made them to be a closed group FOREVER.

What about me? What about other people who have been watching their group and follows their rule. I, for once, NEVER, redistributed any scanlation. I download it for my own. I am so angry, sad, and frustrated. Where should I vent my anger at?

They said they are happy if people download and read their scanslations. Total rubbish! The owner of AF, I hope you are NOT happy because I am not able to download or read any of your scanlations.

For what is worse, all of my previous downloads is gone, because my computer crashed. gone. *cries*

ps: if any of you have a recommendation for BL scans group, feel free to tell me. But I don't do mirc. Not able to do that. I need to find another one.

If you're talking about arrinfantasy (if not, check them out!), why can't you just register to become a member (free) and dl whatever you want to?. That's simply what I do and it works.

I think the people that are upset should remember the quote "beggers can't be choosers". It's not like the scan groups make you jump through fire hoops to get to the scans. If you don't like the way some scan groups operate then don't read scanlations from those groups, simple as that. Maybe look up websites for online viewing if that fits you more, where you don't have to go through many steps to get to the scans. I personally found a great site to read mangas online but don't think I can recommend it on here biggrin

One of the thing that pissed me off today is when I was trying to download a series (unlicensed in my country), they don't have it. They said, "Oh, we only host them for a week and after that, we are taking down the links." And because of that, if it's way too old, the scanlating sites itself doesn't have it. And when I go to other downloading sites, they don't have it and I'm going crazy to find it.

I can't read Japanese because I'm stupid that way, so when I downloaded the raw, I have no clue what's going on, beside the generally idea she's crying and it's this other girl's fault and then there's like few pages with tons of dialogues, which makes it worse 'cause I'm getting lost now.

Seriously, this makes me don't want any series to be done by that kind of particular group and hopes some other group steals it from them. Or just like the opening post say, to just distribute their releases everywhere for the sake of revenge.
