Scientifically speaking, a tomato is definitely a fruit. Though as far as cooking is concerned, they're often used as a vegetable.

So a tomato is the fruit of a tomato plant, but can be used as a vegetable in cooking.

I use it as a vegetable. But its a fruit.

It's a fruit, but is used as a vegetable as already stated.
They are similar to peppers, in that they are also fruit, which are used as vegetables.

But I use it as a vegetable mostly, and treat it that way.
