I downloaded the console version since I have a modem/dial-up connection ... already I am getting Error:Attempt# to get work failed, and no other work to do
oh poo ... does it simply mean there's nothing to do at the moment?

And I saw where to put the Team number, thanks!

Hmm, I don't really know how to solve the technical problems...

Wanna try messing around with the settings or checking this?

Yeah, I already checked the FAQ and the console instructions, but these didn't tell me much, and I can't seem to enter/type anything ... guess I'll have to e-mail them already.
Mine looks like a DOS window, what does yours look like? Can't you tell I'm not very computer literate!!

Yeah, I basically see a black screen with white-lettered information on the left side. In the middle is supposed to be a picture of a protein once you get the program to work

Also dled and up & running here~

I have the text-only, no-frills version; with that you get only the DOS-type box & no graphics.

Periodically a new "completed XXXXXXX out of 5000000 steps" line will show up (currently at 50000 of 5000000), but that's it.

You aren't saving much, the "graphical client" version is only a 371kb download...

I did it. I got on. It's really cool cuz nothing is happening, but I start to hallucinate a little when I stare at the big black box. Kinda like staring into the abyss or something. I hope my computer cures cancer soon.

I just realized mine isn't doing anything at all. I checked all the stats and everything and it seems to be just, well, not doing anything at all. Is anybody else have that?

You first need to finish at least 1 WU (work unit). That could take a day or more, depending on your computer and how long you leave it on. I'm betting the first name on the list will show up within the next 2 days. Once that happens, I'll edit my first post to add a link to the team info.

Just so people know. They display is supposed to show a black background with information on how much you need to do, how fast it is going, and how long it will take. Also in the majority of the screen, it is supposed to show a picture of a molecule(if you didn't get the only text version).

I don't understand you at all ladybrasa. Where did you get the idea that the "console version" means "for dial-up users"?
First of all, it doesn't matter if you have a high speed internet connection or dial-up since the program works off of your unused CPU cycles not your internet speed.
Secondly, "console version" refers to the software's configuration portion. This version is best suited for advanced users, since it doesn't even have an installer because the configuration is done through a console application, like DOS (hence the name). A novice should use the graphical version since, as the name suggest, it has an installer and all the process is done through a graphical interface.
