It's kind of hard for the mother not to know that she has a child. Unless maybe the story involves some changelings or amnesia.
Lol why didn't I think of that. Oh well maybe she was some kind of donor? lol
How about a scenario where the mother gives her child up for whatever reason and years later he/she finds her, that's a mother suddenly becoming a parent even if she did technically know of the child's existance.
