For illegal (shall I say, not exacty moral) means I mean, the gray area scanlator's work being published.

Thanks for the news biggrin This is the first time I've heard of it.

So fine they don't intend to sell the works of fans uploaded into their forum but either way MH still plans on earning money (they proposed a business plan right!?) through the use of their popularity which was created by loyal fans uploading manga series into their website so before they do this stuff shouldn't they ask those members/scanlators who help them grow for permission.

Yes, MH has been around for a long time and I love their site just like how I love MU. So I was kinda shocked that their really this kind of people.

Well the reason why there hasn't been any new releases of Fairy Tail and Negima is becouse the Weekly Shounen Magazine wasn't published this week. So those two series had a break week.

I just read the whole business plan, so in short when they become legal manga scanlation distribution site (of course people will need to start paying to read a series) they will defenitely shut down sites that distributes free manga scans and pirate scanlation groups into working for (MH) them by paying them salaries in order to stop illegal distribution of manga scans. Heh! it's funny how many times the "illegal" word was mentioned in the business plan because MH is also an illegal distribution site.

Another is if they really want to be the official legal manga distribution site then make another independent site to represent themselves not a site full of people's free scans. It makes it seem like their taking advantage of people's goodwill.

PS: After I read the whole thing, in my opinion the explanation posted to their site is just an excuse to appease the angered fans because that business plan explains it all to me.

one key point, my notes are in the [brackets]:

page 19 of MH's business plan.
"Clients [viz and companies] can also help to curb this factor by being strict in controlling the illegal distributions [MH is basically ASKING VIZ to deliver more and more cease and desist letters], now that the target market already has an easy to access and affordable means in obtaining manga. MangaHelpers realizes the need to control the distribution of the native digital contents (RAWs) to tackle this from the source [if raws don't get to the community, no way to scanlate]. A discussion with the providers will help communicate MangaHelpers' intentions to this group [discussion with providers... basically "either give us your raws(maybe give you a nominal fee in exchange), or don't post them online"]."

translation: once MH becomes a business partner, they will stop/hinder free scanlations. they will do this by controlling raws, which they themselves are the leading distributors for. by controlling raws, they will prevent other groups/people from working on the manga, leaving them and "their" scanlators to provide the only english copy. a copy they will provide on their website for a fee.

what really irritates me most is that they're literally asking companies to destroy our community through cease and desist letters. congrats MH, for years you've been growing thanks to the exact same things you're now proposing to destroy.

It's okay, most of our manga comes from japanese p2p programs and people who buy the manga to scanlate it. So what if they stop the raw sharing? We will just start a new place^^ dun mind, dun mind.
But I agree with you...someone gimme those 4 people's names on the net.

Its good and all that the translators, typesetters, cleaners, etcs. deserve some money for their work... and it is easier to make "legal" manga scanlations if partnered up with a "legal" group. well the thing is, i hope this dont turn into another crunchyroll.

let me add, ive read the proposal and only that so far... from that, mangahelpers seems rather cocky... and yes i can tell theyre trying to make money off it, but if all benefits its all good... however, i can tell, it by 99% would turn into another crunchroll... lets just all go to mangashare, mangatraders and mangaupdates for manga if mangahelpers were to be gone (they wont matter much anyways, since there is always new scanlator groups...)

That is the solid reason why MangaHelpers' name is Manga Helpers. People helping others enjoy it. With this in mind, along with Crunchyroll's successful business model we created that draft.
okay, based on what they just said, TAMZO #3, Crunchroll #2 coming up!

we could have progressed so much further than being pirates leeching from the publishers.
that would cost us money and if we spend money then we wont be pirates... not to mention, why the heck wont we just go buy some manga if its not free anymore?

Quote
Our goal was to find a way to support the publishers while keeping the fans -- community -- and those that work hard each week satisfied.
not the publishes but yourself is what you wanted to say. i mean, heck they live in japan and their support comes from japanese fans... like how mx0 got discountinued due to jap fans while we fans online love it... see what i mean? your support means shit. also, money earned by viz doesnt go to the pocket of the writer. to support the publishers would mean to not have any raw online. hence the stop of the whole manga scanlation community. therefore, no such thing exists... or at least, i hope not.

The question is, how many people actually read the rough draft, as opposed to the obviously negative post by FoOlRulez

So basically what mangahelpers wants is to become is a redistribution site for already licensed manga legally, license raws for distribution and possible translation, and "help" scanlators get what they "deserve?" Didn't Netcomics, or some other online distributor, use to do something like that, and it didn't work out?

Also, wouldn't it, if they were really trying to help the community, be better if they went to the Japanese companies instead of the American ones first? Maybe they chose Viz because of it's tie ins with two major manga publishers of Japan, but this doesn't seem that well thought out to me, and if they really wanted to help the community, they would be targeting the Japanese publishers first not Viz. Though, it might be in response to Viz's overwhelming watchdogging where Rumiko Takahashi's works are involved due to Rin-ne being online by them and the completion of Inu-yasha, but again, it doesn't seem that well thought out to me, and I don't trust them to be even that sincere in their goals.

That being said, it seems to me just like what they implied it would be by using crunchyroll in the address to it's public, a scheme to make money by becoming a "legitimate" enterprise used to "help" people of a community when in reality all they want to do is take advantage of a situation between two groups of apposing view points by creating an "alternate method" and alienating those who don't happen to agree with it.

Thanks for the post, I was beginning to wonder why so many scanlation groups had 'we won't be using Mangahelpers' notices on their sites.
As for the 'business proposal', well, that isn't one. There are no costing or profit analyses and, as others have mentioned, precious little reference to the myriad legal issues of such a venture.
Apart from any business-related issues, what is most striking about the 'proposal' is that it was written and conveyed without any prior discussion with the parties who would be most affected, i.e. the scanlators, raw providers, editors et.al. which make up the MH community.
For shame MH.
