Don't usually pay much attention to the mangaka, but the first one that comes to mind is SHIIBA Nana. I love her oneshots.
Also really like HIKAWA Kyouko for some reason..
I recognize a lot more, could list off a lot more, but these are probably up at the top if I was listing favorites.

Ah, my favourite josei mangas of all time are Kimi wa Pet by Ogawa Yayoi and Nodame Cantabile by Ninomiya Tomoko.

I used to be into Nana, but it's just gone on for way too long now and with no real conclusion looming. lol. I'll read it when it's finished. But yeah, other than my two favourites, they were all passable. Nothing great to remember. Unless they're quite good, they can be annoying.

Yuki! Kaori! Yuki Kaori! She rocks my little world. I own all of her work in Japanese and I'm catching up with everything in English. To bits and bitty pieces, do I love the work of Yuki Kaori.

Yazawa Ai is a firm runner up, although I feel bad for not being terribly interested in her older work. I've also recently discovered Hazuki Kanae and really dig her stuff. Oh, and I have dirty history of Clamp worship, but I don't like their current series. Give me dark, enigmatic old-school shoujo Clamp over shiny, re-hash shounen-seinen Clamp any day.

Yuki Kaori is the epic goddess of gothic shoujo in every sense.
I also like:
Matsuri Akino
Tomoko Hayakawa
Erika Kari-Her lineart is impossibly perfect, and Vampire Doll fills me with silly, gothy happiness.
Hino Matsuri
Fujita Maki
Watase Yuu-(half her work I love and the other half I cannot tolerate)
Matsushita Yoko
Higuri Yuu
