I hope they put in a companion system, this seems like the perfect world to explore with someone, but considering none of the others I've played has had one, I'm not counting on it.

Love the gameplay so far, too. I'm glad I pre-ordered it way back now.

Seeing some of the E3 stuff is actually making me want to get the game now.
Thank goodness they've finally made it possible to play it well in 3rd person view, game looks good though I'll probably get it on the PS3 or get a new pc...though between this and ME3 I probably need to upgrade anyways...

I'm sad that they nerfed some aspects of it so hard (no base stats like strength and intelligence), but watching that gameplay is just... wow. I don't think I've been this excited for a game ever.

Things weren't so bad before the mods, mams. Everyone had low texture boobs and irremovable bras.

Looks like you got your wish. Except now they also have wrinkled knees. laugh

Anyway, I got it on Friday and beat it on Monday. This game is awesome, and the fact that you actually fight the final boss this time around is a big plus too. The only real complaint I have with the game is the melee system. They really slowed down the two-handed weapons, because now a regular swing is as slow as the power swings were in Oblivion, and a power swing in Skyrim is even slower than that. With the one-handed weapons, they don't take out a lot of damage with just one, and if you have two of them, you somehow can't block at all (Which makes no sense seeing how you could easily just cross the one-handed weapons over each other and block).

One thing that's very praise-worthy is that they actually made using magic fun again. It's actually the better alternative to using melee, because I'm have WAY more fun using magic than weapons.

The problem with Skyrim, as I see it, is that they tried to "please" too many people. Because of that most "new" game mechanics are either just annoying or something that gets real old, real fast.
i.e. Yes, there is a follower system... But none of the available followers "add" something to the story, nor is there any interaction possible (besides giving some basic "orders").
Yes, in Skyrim you're able to marry... But what's the point if you make it so incredibly easy to achieve (yet hard to figure out, why need an amulet?) and put it in a forgotten corner of the game.
Sure, you can become i.e. the Arch-mage... But you're not recognized as such, the whole storyline just ends there (true, some guards will remind you from time to time).

Whilst the world itself is very nice, the available quests (and storylines) are not. They are way too short and leave the player unsatisfied. The fact that pretty much all NPCs are static in behaviour and don't really offer any immersion doesn't help. What annoyed me most of all is that you can't deny quests (why would I want to kill/steal with my goody two-shoes character), or that you don't have different outcomes for different approaches (like i.e. just telling the guard).
Sure, you are able to make a minor choice one in a while (which only changes the reward you get from the quest), and you're able to side with the imperials, the rebels, or neither if that pleases you (none of which makes any difference in the end).

After playing around for a day or two, I quickly became annoyed with the game... What's the point in playing if none of what you do has any effect?
I can make up my own storylines, no problem there (/me is old-school RPGer), but I feel a bit ignored by and disconnected from the world.

As with previous games, it seems that it's up to the modding community to actually make something of the game. --> SkyrimNexus.

Well, as for me, I guess I could never really get bored of TES.
And I'm loving Skyrim so far.
But that's enough chit-chat, let's get back to the game. ;-)

I have to say that even though I absolutely love Skyrim to death so far, this is my main problem with it. While for me there is an abundance of interesting quests, places to explore, little easter eggs, plentiful characters, good graphics, and it feels more realistic/immersive than Oblivion, the interaction with other people is still so shallow. It's particularly apparent now they've put in the marriage system and followers - these are people you're meant to be close to but you get so few interactions and dialogue choices. I would find the game so much more immersive if they would develop a few characters a little more and you felt like you actually had significant connections with other characters. After playing the Dragon Age games, Skyrim feels really lacking in this area. Although I get that there's only so much they can do, the game is huge already, and if you develop one area more you'll probably lose out on another. I guess deep relationships are not exactly compatible with who your character is and the lifestyle you lead. DA and TES are two different series and I guess it wouldn't be possible to make a game incorporating all aspects of both.

I'm really enjoying it though. The hours just fly by and I've barely scratched the surface. I'm enjoying the enchanting and smithing side of things a lot more than I thought I would, and magic is better too (I virtually never used magic in Oblivion, especially since all the good spells required high level skills). Companions storyline seemed kind of lacking though and while the werewolves look cool, actually being one seems pretty pointless. Lots of glitches and other minor complaints but overall though I think it's a big improvement on Oblivion.

Skyrim. Hands down, its not an understatement to say that Skyrim is the most beautifully crafted game I have ever played.

I don't really understand the criticism about it. I don't think it is fair to compare DA to Skyrim because its comparing a game, I found, to be tailored to developing an epic plot to a game that focuses on the creation of an epic world as a whole. I enjoyed both but I must say...

...Skyrim is really, really good
