Yeah, totally. I like the main character, the poor, shy, innocent country boy whose heart of gold will win Seregill eventually. But now it's like he's ruined.....a bit soiled. -_- I mean come on, you got raped by a sorceress that's probably 100 years old, whose also a slut that slept with the enemy, Thero, the actor, Nysander. EWW She slept with Nysander a lot, EWWWW What the hell. That's like sleeping with your grandpa's girlfriend. I have no idea what he is thinking, but I think any normal human being, at any time period, will probably stay in the shower for days.

Also.....It seems the Author intends to perhaps make him more like Seregill, in life style, moral principle [which is basically none regarding sex], and it's just a mirror image.

Whether he lost it or not to the Sorceress, he definitely slept with the prostitute that Seregil gave him. I mean what the hell....what kind of shitty brother-teacher-lover is Seregil? Yes, Alec is inexperienced so you won't tell him you love him, but you just shove him into a whore house?


Honestly, I am beginning to see why the antagonist is attacking him. They are just....morally, socially corrupted rich bastards. In their city, while most peasants are starving and living in trash and sewers, these rich bastards are enjoying themselves, having orgy and vising their "Light" district. I have no words...but I am slowly beginning to support the Necromancers return.

All in All, instead of using their wealth to save their own citizens from poverty, they choose to act posh and squander it all. I am pretty disappointed by the protagonist side.

I like to analyze the underlying theme of the book. Every book has that hidden theme. And I think the book's universe or world is portraying a revolution of the poor and unfortunate against the rich and powerful. Out of the three nation, two were given fertile and rich land while the third has a shitty place. Of course they will try to conquer the other land, DUHHH. They aren't violent, they just want to stop living in poverty while their two neighbor countries enjoy life, aristocratic style. Yet the author degrades this poor nation struggling to survive as a nation made of rapist, murderers, and evil worshiping a dead god. Maybe I'm thinking a little too much, but the author better have a god damn explanation for this in the end of 2nd and 3rd, 4th book.....


And oh yeas, I hate the fact that author try to pair up young boys with older man. Seregil is like 50 something in human life and Alec is 16 I think? That's statuary rape....the author better not be a member of NAMBLA.

The Persian Boy is another of my favorite:
It's about a young eunuch named Bagoas [also refereed to as the Persian Dancing Boy] and his love affair with Alexander the Great. This is actually supported by several historical documents where Bagoas was refereed as Alexander's "Beloved" and the famous kissing scene where Alexander kisses Bagoas after Bagoas won a dancing contest. Though it is kind of weird since Bagoas was 15 and Alexander was like 24......so there's some classic greek pedo stuff right there

I finished all 5 Nightrunners current book. Including White Road that was published in 2010 may. I think this series is great!

However I do have to comment that book 1 and 2 are a different type than book 3. Book 1 and 2 are adventure based, sort of suspense, silly, comedy, romance, fantasy fixture.

Book 3 is mostly political suspense and some detective components.

Book 4 is some weird BDSM theme where Alec and Seregill is constantly tortured and molested....

Book 5 is a full blown romance with some adventure. But most of this book is Alec acting like a woman and Seregill being jealoused of the white child. I mean honestly....it's a great book, but I don't want to see Alec becoming a woman, not literally. If I want to see romance between a man and a woman, I would have read a straight novel....The next book in series, book 6, will come out late 2012. Cross our fingers it will be worth the wait, lol. And Book 7 will come out in 2013 or 2014. Again, I would like to read the whole story series...interesting plot and not as boring as Lord of the Ring.

There's also a nightrunner short collection of 4 stories about a total of less than 100 pages

I'm sorry to say....but the Geography Club novel was not my kind. Maybe it's for teens or something but there's really nothing in the book, the characters are under developed and shallow, if not hypocritical. The drama is thin and comes together like fiction. BUT I suppose it does have merits for encouraging gay kids in high school.

Recently I started a new novel called 'A better place' by Roeder. It's a great novel and so far it's about a poor 15 year old kid and a 17 year old football star. Different from other novels, the 15 year old kid isn't into the whole sex thing....you'll see why when you read the novel..it's kind of sickening what his brother did to him....
I have to say....this has to be my favorite gay high school novel. It's really sweet and full of actions and twist and turns. The chapters alternate between the two guys so you know what each is thinking.

OH JESUS....oh dear lord.....I have to say something about the second half of this novel:



So painful the second half.....especially the prostitution part. I can't finish it...sorry, I think I might leave this book unfinished until next time...So people who don't like the rape, molestation, and prostitution part of certain gay novel....don't read this one.

I believe I know what you want, It's the same author of the previous book a better place. This book is called Someone is Watching by Mark Roeder. It's a story about a 17 year old high school wrestler who eventually finds out he is attracted to his best friend Jon. And someone in school knows about it and sends his notes like: "I know you are a FAG!!". But the main character isn't shy at all so I think you'll appreciate his honesty. But seriously...he's way too horny...i mean he stares at every guy he meets and I wonder if he's going to grow up to be a rapist or something...

hmmm, well, often the submissive character are two types: emotionally strong but physically weak or emotionally weak and physically weak as well.

Some novels are a mix so the submissive are weak at times but also strong most of the times. For this, I recommand Remastering Jerna by Ann Somerville. Yes, I will warn you it's a pretty harsh novel, with heavy amount of BDSM slave master, prostitution, and really really disturbing prison scenes. BUT it is very well written so I usually overlook that harsh descriptions. This book is located in the far future on another world where moral values are so strict that even the slightest crime is punished harshly. So the book is about this guy called Jerna who is an architect teacher. After being framed for statuary rape of a 16 year old, he gets sent to prison where he has to work and earn money until he pay his debt [that's the punish harassing and molesting and raping him because of his crime. Later, he got a position to be a male prostitute in a rich people whore hotel. And he meets clients who treats him like a flower or like shit. Of course he meets Tolomi, this guy about late 20. But Tolomi is sort of an ass from the first half of the book and basically tortures Jerna until Jerna finally just collapse into a coma or something. It's a powerful passage, made me cry a bit for Jerna when the usually strong Jerna crawls on the floor and begs Tolomi to beat him instead of sending him to prison. It's a great book, if you are interested in some BDSM and master-slave mentality. Ok, I admit, I skipped most of the BDSM scenes. This book has given me a new view on BDSM....I always thought it was nasty and perverted but it's actually kind of make sense why they do it. According to many psychology of the 1960-1980, people have leader follower syndrome. Which means we tend to be either leader or followers. Most of us are followers by nature, and we can't help it.



Sort of like pop star and fans, military general and his soldiers, superhero and the citizens....

This is a really interesting thread, and many of the novels recommended here sound interesting. However, I would like it very much, if it would be possible to get a list of gay novels that are not tragedies. I mean, I don't mind, if something tragic has happened to the characters before the events of the novel, or during the novel, but the novel must have a happy ending.

Well, yeah, that's my kind of novel too, happy ones. BUT certain novel like A Better Place by Roeder have tragedy in the plot itself and the ending is happy. Like if one of the character gets molested but the couple ends up together. Do you like those too?

*update bump* anyone read this autobiography called "Fish: A Memoir of a Boy in a Man's Prison" by T. J. Parsell. The book is an autobiographical account of this guy who was arrested and put into prison at the age of 17 for robbing a photo mat with a toy gun. He was sentenced for some years and put into the adult prison. Unfortunately he was a pretty skinny white boy, that's apparently what prisoners liked, and he was gang raped in prison. Later he was given away like an object to a man named Slide Step. That's the part I'm up to. Unfortunately, I can't provide a download link, I feel people should buy this book out of respect for this author's unfortunate past. The author is now a successful computer programmer and goes around the country lecturing the awareness of prison rape and molestation.

I do urge the less squeamish readers to read it. At times, like the gang rape, it is one of the most brutal scene I have ever come across. It is intense and sweet at times when you see he finds someone, Slid Step, his "man" who spoiled him and there's a bit of romance but the author was too young at the time to realize it.

Let me say this book is INTENSE....holy shit man....holy shit........
