Ironically, more than half of the series cited in this thread are Funimation properties. They do a damn good job. The dubs for Basilisk were freakin awesome. Chris Sabbat has the most distinct voice in all of anime dubs.

ADV films is slightly less in my book. They own the rights to Kenshin and Shura no Toki(which is good in either language). They do well on the period pieces(Peacemaker Kurogane was decent, but not great), but not so much on the modern stuff.

Yeah, as much as people hate the original One Piece dub, I think Funimation did a great job recasting it when they took over for the anti-christ of all dubbed anime: 4kids. I should've added Shin-chan to that list b/c that show is hilarious. Also Funimation dubbed.

IMO Ocean Group has the worst back catalog but their Death Note dub is brilliant.

Reading that has made me cringe. In my opinion it wasn't good. I couldn't get through a couple seconds of it when I tried to watch it two different times. Once I heard L's voice I just had to change the channel.

lol Man you really thought it was that bad, huh? Just give it a chance, I admit that at first I wanted to bury my head in sand when L first spoke in the dub. But if you listen to his longer monologues you'll find that he actually did a good job in capturing L's lethargic personality and his dry wit. And Brad Swaille does a good job w/ Light as well. He actually dun dun duuuun... acts. *gasp*

Beck. Non-Enrish songs? Thank you very much. And I just liked the vioces in general. I have to agree with aho, Funimation usually does a really good job. Though their Furuba dubs made shrivel up in pain, and I live in fear of hearing what they do to Host Club. But their FMA dubs own all, in my opinion at least, so, when combined with their Beck dubs, all is forgiven.

...Not that I'm ever going to watch Ouran in English. Some things are just wrong.

That was the best part about the dub of the show. Although, since they do actually speak english and japanese in the actual anime, it kinda takes away from the overall feel of the show. And koyuki sounds like a pussy.

That said, proper pronunciation works wonders for the koyuki songs, but not the chiba songs.

The best, IMO, is Cowboy Bebop. You really can't go wrong with either version, but their dubs were actually good.

Fullmetal Alchemist was also pretty good. Same with Samurai Champloo and I'm inclined to say Last Exile, but I'm not sure if I watched it in dubbed or Japanese (it's been a while). FLCL and Ghost in the Shell also weren't bad. I'm also thinking maybe Big O, but it's been a while so I'm not 100% sure.

I really hated Naruto and Death Note's dub. Well, the main problem with Naruto's dub is well, Naruto's voice actor. Whenever I hear his voice, I just want to pierce my eardrums. And Light's English voice actor in Death Note just does not do his character justice. Light is a psycho, and his Japanese voice actor does a good job at portraying that. Not over the top psychopath, but the silent, obsessive, self-righteous type of psychopath. The English version is too nice. His voice sounds too normal to think he's a psychopath.
