You can't be both genders, so you really only have a possibility of 4 of the choices.

But it's okay, you don't have to stay ignorant...

dang, the new poll does not really do it for me. i don't avoid yuri/shoujo-ai, but i certainly read yaoi/shounen-ai the most.

There's straight shota? o.o

of course. but it is generally for guys where the mother/older sister/ teacher etc is freakingly hot and voluptuous. i prefer the ones for girls where the guys are just so freaking cute but still have manly outlook, like yoru made matenai and Boku no Chikyuu o Mamotte.

I'm a guy and I avoid both. There are exceptions if I wonder into them by chance, though. For example, I'm a huge fan of Anne Rice's Vampire Chronicles and it's Lestat character...and he's about as pan-sexual as they come(especially in Tale of the Body Thief).

Girl, and completely addicted to yaoi.
I love yuri too, but there are a lot less yuri so it's harder to find good ones.

I prefer same-sex couples to het.

Yep, same here.

**Meant to reply to the whole thread, not to a specific post. Oops.*

I avoid all literature that has a focus on same-sex romance (if it happens to be one of a harem's paths/ a subplot for a secondary character, that's fine.) It's not because I see anything wrong with it--though the way it's portrayed in most Yaoi is rather tasteless to me (I don't read smut either)--but because I simply cannot relate with a character who happens to swing that way. It's the same reason I don't read books/manga with only a female lead. I can't relate to them--and if I can't relate to the main character I find it incredibly difficult to get into the story.

I'm female, and one of those that highlights yaoi. Funny note. wink
I don't particularily seek out yuri, but don't mind it. Haven't read any thing yuri that wasn't a light comedy yet.

i'm a girl and i like and highlight both, though better choices are among huge BL category. At first i only liked BL, but then my morality went downhill and I started to drool over GL stories also roll eyes Now I even read guro sometimes (those with touching stories ^^; ). Omg, I wouldn't believe it..well..17 years ago laugh

I am a girl that seeks yuri/GL and avoids yaoi. I generally skip over sex scenes though.

Yeah I thought about making a comment about this but the poll is long enough already. There's too many genders.

I guess for each gender there is a demographic that likes reading about homosexual couples that are of the opposite sex. For most people, if they are straight themselves, they would probably avoid reading about their own gender in a homo relationship (I feel awkward at least). I have stumbled upon s ...

I guess so, the only problem is that I've never ever heard of guys going mad over yuri or such things, but girls.....well let's just say girls go a bit too crazy XD

Guy - I read both. Aside from guro (bleh) I'll basically read any manga if it's worth it. smile wink grin

Funnily enough though, homosexual males generally despise yaoi- it's too unrealistic, and not at all what they look for in their H-manga. Thus why the bara category exists. Men are attracted to other men because of their lack of feminine characteristics... so why would a gay guy want to date a feminine male if they idealize bears?

Eh. Suppose it works the same way with lesbians as well, but I don't hear much complaint about the lack of realism in yuri. Maybe I'm not looking hard enough?

I might not count, having some bisexual tendencies, but it's true. I like yaoi and I read it often (I read all manga often) and I own quite a few, but if the boys are too girlie then it's not even yaoi to me anymore, it's just a manly man with a cry baby useless girl who happens to have a penis (which is sometimes also very questionable.) Bara is my thing. When they finally start printing that into the mainstream manga I will buy that **** up!

As for yuri it's usually done really well! At least I don't have any complaints. It's like more thought out than most yaoi manga some times. It's not just about the sex but the emotion behind it too! Yuri is definitely more about characterization (not that there isn't good yaoi, just not as much as yuri). I love reading yuri. bigrazz

Otaku here, and I like the craziest stuff, love yuri and avoid yaoi, but only because it pisses me of how much hotter yaoi is than most yuri. If I had enough good yuri, yaoi wouldn't be a problem for me, so It's like I'm on strike (good that there are other people like me, judging from the amount of filtering), if a yaoi work depicts some hot guys really having fun and not moaning for the pleasure of girl readers then I might find it ok, but it's rare. So let me say it again: I want yuri to be as hot and as popular as yaoi and then I might open up for the other side.

Outside of erotica I despise giving any attention to characters' sexual orientation.

I'm a (straight) girl who avoids both. Nothing against homosexuals in general, I'm just not very interested in reading homosexual stories (and I don't like most of the romance stories I've read either, actually).

Perhaps we should also distinguish between straight/gay/bi in addition to distinguishing people by gender, but that would make the poll a bit long.

I actually find it harder to vote now that the choices have been changed. bigrazz

Anyways, I'm a guy and I read yuri/shoujo-ai. The demographics still play a huge role for me, though; I avoid yaoi but I am open to male-oriented shounen-ai (like Prunus Girl), and I'm not very fond of female-oriented shoujo-ai.
