I can almost guarentee it won't be anything we are expected. I don't think it will be something as crazy as what some people have mentioned, and there is a chance it will be something like a ship, but I doubt that it will be actual treasure as in gold. But, there are many other types of treasures.

At the same time though, it could literally be nothing save for a final destination. By the time a pirate overcomes all the obstacles and has all their adventures, don't they already have enough to prove that they are the greatest pirate alive, and enough treasure to be like the richest alive? So, it could be something like that (though it is rather lame).

Don't spam. You will get blocked because of that, believe me. If you wanna tell people how Fairy Tale is better than One Piece, make a new topic at Fairy Tale's forum, or Manga General's forum.

I don't know if anyone mentioned this, but my guess is that One Piece is Gol D. Roger's hat. In chapter 1, Shanks gave Luffy his straw hat on the condition that Luffy returns it when he becomes a great pirate. Obtaining the One Piece would signify Luffy surpassing Shanks (assuming that there is nothing greater than being one of the yonkou for a pirate besides pirate king) and thus Luffy would have to return the hat. However, the straw-hat pirates can't be the straw-hat pirates without a straw-hat-wearing captain (weird logic, but whatever). I don't know if Oda would implement something like an ultimatum to obtaining One Piece (forcing Luffy to choose between One Piece or his crew that helped him get there) with such an obvious answer for Luffy. I guess this also assumes that Shanks isn't after One Piece and that he and Luffy don't become enemies/rivals.

Honestly, I feel like one piece will be some piece of information that changes the nature of the world. I think it's going to be connected to the lost century that's often referenced, since a connection has been made between that and Gol D. But what I actually hope is that one piece is more closely linked with the legacy of D.

Very well said. You took the words right out of my mouth... or more like... fingers... Anyways, Maybe I can just elaborate a bit more on it. Below are some of the mysteries or big unknowns in the world of One Piece.

1. The will of D/What 'D' stands for?
2. The World Govenment.
3. Poneglyph/Rio Poneglyph
4. The void/missing century.
5. Raftel island (Why can't anyone else reach it?)
6. The Tenryuubito.
7. The All Blue Sea.
8. The Devil Fruits.

Note: If there is more, please let us know.

We all know that Gold D. Roger is very strong, but he also seems to be a very clever man as he (or one of his crew mates) could read and write Hiroglyphic characters (sorry about the spelling), as we have witnessed in Skypea. Therefore, I am guessing that One Piece is more a treasure of knowledge, truth and values compared to an actual physical treasure. We also know that the final destination and the location that holds 'One Piece' is in the island called Raftel. I am hoping that it ties/links all these information/mysteries I've mentioned above together (especially the first 6).

Perhaps something that would give you knowledge of anything and everything? That could be how they discovered the truth of the world before the world government.

i believe it's gonna be a piece of a weapon or something like that... or maybe a piece of history...the void history.. and i bet it will tell the truth about how the nobles took over the world and how with the missing info that gol d. roger took, is the only thing that is keeping them from total world domination..it has to be something along those lines...and that is why they dont want any pirates, because they dont want to be beaten to getting the "one piece".. and the fact that no one has reached the last island is a lie, i bet that there are gonna be a lot of marine ships preventing pirates to get close because they are searching the island for one piece, but obviesly they cant find it..because gl d. roger never said the exact place it was hidden, he just said "that place" and everyone assumed the last island...but there is gonna be something else hidden in his words..or something he said before to hint to the exact location

I honestly have been wondering this for a while now too...But I mean if we want to take it literally as "One Piece." Then maybe it is just one piece of treasure? I have no idea though xD Oda is completely unpredictable with these things!

The problem with one piece being knowledge that will change the world is that Roger had one piece and the world was not changed. I agree with the consensus that it is unguessable. I will greatly disapointed if i think of the answer before the end.

I assume what one piece is exactly isn't really important. Its more of the idea that Gol D. Roger's treasure is out there. His declaration led to the age of pirates. The fact that it exists is more of a motivation for people to take up their flags and adventure in search of it. I'm fairly certain that he said it to spur on the age of pirates in a final retaliation against the world government.

So as to what it physically it is I say it's something stupid like an empty chest. Or a note saying something like 'well. You found it and this is it."
