You could try placing the motor in a non-conductive liquid solution to improve cooling of the motor. Also how much energy does the motor take and how much energy does a single stride produce?

Im not sure but you could try fitting a battery into the space if that would provide enough energy to give you a kick start, the only thing then is to make it so the battery will only discharge when you are starting out, since to have it discharge while you are already going at a good speed is wasteful.

Also what you describe is actually more like AT's in riding concept than a simple motor that does all the propulsion, since in order to reach high speeds, the characters in Air Gear can clearly be seen to be literally taking strides to improve their top speed. In the manga the motor seems to be more for wall riding and for assistance than anything else, of course for us in reality Im pretty sure the wall riding is rather out of the question.

wall riding is possible in theory ive seen people do tricks like it in normal speed skates but they only go up a few feet and then fall but with enough force and on a surface with enough grip you could in theory pull somethong similar off.

I have tried experimentation with liquid however it isnt really practical as it doesnt take much to dislodge or pop any vessel carrying said liquid.

I have got a friend of mine to do a calculation on how much each stride produces and he said it would produce enough energy to run the motor for around 10 seconds. other than that he could get no accurate readings as each stride was different. i had an idea of implimenting a venting system to adress the cooling issue but i cant find space on the chasis.

this mourning i tried using a launcher type device to provide an initial burst but i cant carry it around and set it up everytime i stop.

If you would like i can post up some of the design sketches i have done and maybe some pics of the blade if i can get everything compiled so you guys can try something similar

What if the liquid were stored in a solid vessel. Just something to increase the overall ability of the motor to withstand heat and to disperse it better. A series of small metal tubes would provide suffecient surface area and you can use canola oil or something as the coolant (since it doesnt affect electricity, corrode metals, etc).

Well I think in Air Gear their ATs pretty much make it possible to wall ride up pretty high (high enough to easily fall to your death).

As for starting off quickly, thinking about it the amount of energy that a small motor is actually able to put out is rather small when given a small time frame especially, so Im thinking it might be impossible with current technology to be able to hit high speeds very quickly with just the ATs.

I would idealy like to make the ATs a stand alone unit not requireing any external support so i have done away with the launcher. I am currently reaserching compressed air as both a meathod of fast energy
and cooling using the compressed air to simulate a stride and later for some cooling however the meathod to make them fire off will be dodgy at best
and i would need to refill them after each use

The conola oil would work as would saline solution as the motor uses no actual electricity just KPE and kenetic energy so liquid wont be too much of a problem except for slowing the whole thing down.

Ive been talking to the agro skaters around town and the general consensis is that if you can hit a wall at 40+ Kph you can "ride it" and seeing as though i had the ATs clocked at 50+ and im 100% sure i can get atleast 75 kph out of them wall riding is scarily possible. I will experiment with that tonight to see how high i can get but the heating issue is still one of the majour barriers to sucess.

Im going to see how much the motor can take as i have another motor arriving today along with some potential regallia and some custom parts to experiment with ill post what ive found out soon.

Anyways got to go for a run with the ATs

azure good luck with the experiments and stuff.
lol after the part about how you can easily snap your ankles and stuff just.........
.........be careful. Alright?
Although you sound like a good skater.......
........MAN its freaky.

Out of concern from another one in the project, be careful.
And you're making great progress.

Peace

yeah im a reasonable skater.

sd it turns out the motor can take a supprising hammering before giving out i got a friend with his speed gun to tag me he clocked me at around 75 kph on the flat.

i trued the wall ride and got 3m up before droping into a bush. no serious injuries but it was close ill give that a miss for now atleast.

the motor gave out after a 4 hour hard run (it was a race to see who would last longest me or the motor I won lol) and i have had the motor replaced with a sturdyer motor that i got imported from germany and it has had no problem outlasting the previous one.

it is starting to look like im getting a viable product. do you guys know any where i can get more of these fabricated as due to other commitments i cannot be assembling more of these for others that have requested pairs.
any ideas would be great

so I've read about a third of this thread so far as I've been toying with the same idea for a while myself.
so far, I've figured the power system, suspension and pnumatic shocks. I've done nearly all the equations to build a suitable *electric brushless motor for each foot.
haven't started any construction as of yet but may later this year.
all my equations have been based off 30 minutes of run time with a top speed of 30mph. total wattage of the setup will be around 764 watts. using a 6s 3p 16.2 ah lipoly pack will work for this. currently working motor design per these numbers. I don't intend to use the power for the initial startup but rather use them as normal blades until a good speed is reached then kick in the motors.
will start looking for pnumatic shocks of proper size & strength.

more to come guys smile

If you make them I'll buy them so good luck. After reading Air Gear I thought about seeing if it was possible to make Air Treks but I just couldn't think of a way with my miniscual knowledge. But real life Air Treks would sell like candy or goldfish.

well, at this time, im just figuring it out on paper as to the feasability. no plans for market just yet. the batteries alone will be over $800.
each motor controller about $130.
not to mention the cost of aluminum for the frame and the 8 shocks I'll need bigrazz
but perhaps I can get away with getting some sponsership for the project.

Hey, guys i'm new but if you all wouldn't mind telling me how close we are to making this dream come true. i would love to input and help as much as possible. i believe i'm somewhat of a problem solver.

plz let me help out

i joined the site just to participate in this forum and hope i can get some help
i've thinking about using a chain and motor powered by the spinning wheels you think it'll work?

I now have 12 working models all equiped with various types of "regallia" ranging from a quick break system to a extra jump chassis. I am currently in the process of reaserching on how to get these things mass produced or atleast produced on a larger scale any ideas on that would be cool

did you get custom wheels, if so from where

as for your question maybe you could approach a company(not likely)
