I started swearing back in middle school, but really didn't start swearing bad until about high school. It started off slow with a few not so bad swear words here and there in jokes with my family and friends, but it eventually my everyday vocabulary included swear words. I swear at home, in front of my parents, with my friends, and even my sister and I have taken up calling each other the B word in fun.

The only place I don't swear is anywhere in school where I could get in trouble for doing it and in front of my aunt and uncles (my cousins are cool with the swearing though). It has actually began to rub off on my little brother sadly. He doesn't actually say the words but he will say things like "son of a" and then just cuts it off. Sounds bad coming out of an 11 year old cry and I feel pretty bad aiding in this development.

I swear a lot if I'm speaking really casually. I picked it up working tech crew in the theater in high school. Never turned back.

Very interesting topic! laugh

My parents punished me whenever I attempted to swear/cuss as a child. I can't even remember them doing that, so it must have been pretty scary! I do remember my grandmother forcefully smearing a piece of very hot chili on my mouth when I swore at her as a toddler!

At present, I swear very, very infrequently. Maybe the 's' word about 10 times a year and the 'f' word about once or twice in a year. I just think that swearing is ugly and unneccessary, but of course, we are human and when we are angry, we automatically spew those words out!

I had a friend in high school who was a compulsive swearer. One day during lunchtime, I counted all her 'f' words and I told her '47'. She said 'huh'? I told her she swore 47 times during 1 minute. She actually ended up totally toning down the swearing and swears nowhere near as much these days from what I've heard! biggrin

Usually stick to "Aiyaaa", but it sometimes slips in if I'm really annoyed.

I don't know why I cuss but I just do. Sometimes it is just very normal in conversations with friends. Then when I am around my parents, I get scolded because they don't condone it but my mom is just as bad as me but it is really rare that my dad lets a foul word slip. I am always very professional and clean when it comes to work, children or other adults but if I am in a really relaxed atmosphere with a bunch of people I know then there is no filter.

Not much. For the most part, I think like a sailor and speak like a saint. I subscribe to the idea that cursing is a standby when you can't think of a better insult. Most of the harsh cursing is directed at myself—quick and effective. When I insult other people (mentally; I'm passive-aggressive that way) I usually try to be more creative. That way I can think of it as a vocabulary exercise. Recent results: "[CENSORED] is a drawling fool with the mental acuity of a Brachiosaurus" and "[CENSORED] has all the grace and agility of a reeking beached whale."

...My analogies could use some work, but they did the trick, and they made me feel better while I did menial tasks for eight hours in a stuffy environment. biggrin For the record, the aforementioned person really is reminiscent of an awkward herbivore, right down to the open-mouthed chewing of greenery.

Usually, though, I'm nauseatingly agreeable.

I don't swear very often. And if I do it's around friends or when I'm upset. I don't really get why people swear excessively, never really understood it. Or the whole deal with swearing in general, I mean I find it more satisfying to insult people rather than 'cuss them out'.
