-I avoid Sports, Slice of Life, and Historical genres because I usually find them to be boring.
-I'm straight and prefer to read about straight chracters, so I tend to avoid Yaoi, Yuri, Shoujo Ai, and Shounen A ...

For sports try Girl fight really good story.

For all those skeptical of shoujo-ai/ yuri you should read Lonely wolf lonely sheep and Girl friends

For ppl who dislike BL i wouldnt recommend yaoi first... Maybe a story like seven days
Would be nice. And for manhwas i don't think goong should be a first thing to read, i love it but Idk, You're So Cool might be good for that, if you have not tried it yet. I never disliked mahwas so is hard to tell, i personally love goong and the bride of the water God, and if something puts me off i wouldn't think its bcz is a manhwa instead i think of the author or w/e

I would recommend dear mine for shotacon and miman renai for lolicon

as for sport, maybe ping pong

also, for those who don't like shounen-ai, seven days and future lovers

-----as for me, I dislike smut, ecchi, mecha, sport, adventure

Yaoi... I just can't start reading if it has yaoi tag... Definitely not my thing. Other would be shotacon and loli. Even though I find shota and loli really repulsive I think I still would read them rather than yaoi... Yaoi just pushes me back nothing I can do about it...

Try Vagabond for that Historical hate and Baby steps or Slam Dunk for sport. Slice of Life is harder since i don't know what do you find boring about it (there are several things that you could like or dislike about it) so i'm just going to recommend you some that i like Hourou Musuko and Chiro-chan, one is really serious and talks about kid growing up and discovering their sexual identitys and the other is a comedy that follows Mato-chan, it is not a moe manga and that is big plus to me.

1) Battle series
I'm sorry, even though I'm a Dragon Ball fan but that's the only battle series I can deal with. Most battle series are just to bland and boring. If your going to give me a battle series, give me one which good characters and over the top battles. NO BLEACH PLEASE!

2) Slice of Life series
One series I like so far is Nichijou, mainly because it doesn't focus on one subject. What I mean by that: Most slice of life series I read teds to be about romance or otaku humor lol
I don't mind a little romance here or there, Oyasumi Punpun, but I want a different type of story. I want something like MBQ or Saikyou Densetsu Kurosawa : A group of ppl dealing with life; paying the bills, working , hanging out, parties, etc. I don't mind if it's over the top or have a lot of action, but for the time being no more heavy romance or otaku humor.

3) Long/On going series
Sorry, me and on-going-series might never be BFF. Dragon Ball was the only long running series I read. Anything over 15 volumes is pushing it.

First time visiting this thread, I'm looking for preys biggrin

O Lucky23, you sound like you're on 'looking for' forum, I don't feel like replying your request. But man, all recent post that challenge me already been answered (sorry TheRepublican, I can only agree that yaoi is disgusting). So Lucky23, you're really lucky.

Battle Manga, you dislike battle manga but still a fan of dragon ball? you must be kidding me! For battle manga, I settle with Hoshi no Samidare which has numerous crowning moments of awesome towards the end, Dogs: Bullets & Carnage for (pretty much) brainless slash and dash, Tetsuwan Birdy for 'omg, that girl is very funnily stupid to move like that,' Teppu for 'omg, that girl is so awesome to move like that,' Jormungand for (sometimes) very tactical ones, Vinland Saga for the cools, and The Ravages of Time for the colossal. None of them is way over the top aside from Samidare since it's a fantasy manga.

Slice of Life, the gems lies in slice of life! Yotsuba&!, Mushishi, Yawarakai Onna, Yunagi no Machi Sakura no Kuni, Planetes, Ran to Haiiro no Sekai, Chii's Sweet Home, Koohii Jikan, and much much more. You've clearly missed the scene!

On-Going Series, there are some manga that much more enjoyable to be read in installment rather than single sitting. For instance, Maoyuu Maou Yuusha because it has quite long time between release, packed with development, and its development is always adorable. You might think I'm a bit biased because I have interest in economy, though. In case of One Piece you can simply missed the thrill (and chance to discuss recent development amongst fans), with Again!! I simply enjoy its cliffhanger. Most of the time I wait for full volume to complete before reading a title, but for select few, I just cannot missed it.

I'm not sure why I didn't say this earlier, but for anyone who doesn't like seinen or manhwa, there's always Threads of Time!

BL:
I'd recommend pretty much any title from YUMEKA Sumomo. They're usually pretty heart warming. But if that's not your cup of tea either there are some seinen with hints of BL (I've read some but I can't remember any names right now... except Madness... which I don't really think as a BL, even though it has the 'yaoi' tag).

Sports/Martial Arts:
Full Contact is great!

Manhwa:

The funny thing about this thread is that some of these genres people post they know will never read; so there's no point... you can never get me to read yaoi.

He's right lol, some people wont come out of their comfort zone to read something that they absolutely detest (even though everyone gave good recommendations) for example sports manga can never get my attention, its just to boring, and even though I am girl, I really hate yuri. I also cannot stand hentai. =S and I probably wont ever read it.

The reason I still like Dragon Ball more than Bleach is because Dragon Ball started out as a comedy ,science-fantasy, and action-adventure series before becoming a bland battle series. Bleach right off the back is a battle series. From what I can tell through some fans perspective and what I have seen & read: Bleach is more memorable of the battles than the characters or...Adventure?
Every time I look through a Bleach manga or watch the anime is nothing but battles after battles after battles. I don't mind some over the top battles but don't be so damn lazy with the whole story.

I'll take a look at some of those series, mainly Yotsuba&!.

Agreed. I was originally gonna make a post about not wanting to ever read BL or GL (even subtext, slash and "bromance" bother me), but even if a person told me "Try this one, it's a nice, fluffy, light read", I wouldn't bother to look into it. Even if the story is good and everything, I know that the subject matter will bother me and make me stop reading ASAP. It bothers me that much.
I'm sorry if my views of BL/GL bother people, but I will never read those types of manga.

And since I'm posting here, I am willing to let some things side: I have a general dislike to harem (and reverse-harem) manga. If there are some that aren't incredibly cliche, I'd be willing to check it out. All the ones I find seem so boring.

Mecha - because it's dumb. There are exceptions like Bokurano, Macross Frontier or Code Geass, but in general I hate mecha

Sports - most boring genre in the world

Martial Arts - just make a fantasy manga because in the end you're going to introduce physically impossible attacks anyway. And if you won't then it'll be boring.

Ecchi - I don't like it when authors treat the reader like a 7 year old boy who just learned that looking at and talking about boobs makes him more grown up.

Hentai - Because it's gross. Who the fuck loves meter long boobs, two meter long dicks and buckets of weird yellow liquid or texts like "It's piercing my abdomen!". Worst porn is better than that.

Romance - I love good romance, but 99,99% of romance is so ridiculously bad that it makes me want to puke. I pretty much only like stuff with a lot of angst (Girl Friends is my all time favorite, I also like Orange Marmalade.)

Harem - Just no...

Also, anything that's easily classifiable as Shounen/Shoujo/Seinen/Josei. If you're trying to make something that a given demographic will like rather than creating something you want to make, how can you even call yourself an artist?

That kind makes me sad :<

That said, I have never tried any Shounen Ai and don't really want to. Men just don't strike me as a gender fit for romance, but I'll gladly read anything that has good romance so feel free to recommend something. And if you want a challenge then try and find a Yaoi that I will like.

Also, I have a general dislike towards high fantasy

Mecha- I've yet to find a mecha manga I like, but there's the anime: Gundam, Code Geass, Eureka 7...

Sports- How can you dislike sports....? Have you tried "Nononono", "Eyeshield 21", "Slam Dunk", "Hikaru no Go" (sort of), "Kuroko no Basket"

Martial Arts- eh, lots of good martial arts manga do eventually lead to impossible moves. Some less fantastical but still interesting ones are: "Holyland", "All rounder Meguru", "RRR", "Vagabond"
>>unrealistic but ones I still find are awesome: "The God of High School", "The Breaker", "Change guy", "Threads of Time", "Gamaran"

-----------

There are not many genres I can think of that I hate unconditionally. It all comes down to the story for me. The ones that do repulse me are generally shotacon, lolicon, anything to do with inappropriately touching little kids.
