So those who dislike popular shounen titles are elitists?

No, but far too many people think that disliking popular=being elitist (including some self-described elitists.)

Though really, how do you even measure?
Oh I read more obscure titles? Then what about classics? But most classics are also popular" and so on 'til everyone's annoyed with all posters involved.

I say that an elitist is one who criticizes a) a persons choice in media if it does not match their own b) one who shuns those who do not have a knowledge of the media of which they claim to be fans c) one who criticizes bandwagon jumpers d) one who is strict when it comes to the content of manga (you could say picky to an extreme extent)

i guess you could call me a half-and-half. i wouldn't call myself a manga snob but not many people would even if they really were, i don't make fun of narutards unless they start spamming about why naruto is so great and won't shut up, i enjoy any manga i deem good despite its popularity but it's nice to read a manga no one really knows about and to see it bloom, and i end up watching the anime versions despite the difference, whether i like them or whether i think they stray too far from the plot or not.

i hate generic shonen and harem visual-novel based series.
bousou renkin, shuffle, suzumiya haruhi, and virtua fighter are good examples.
Air was the sh*t tho, i'm not gonna lie.

...Haruhi is neither shounen nor based on a visual novel, just so you know. It's not really "generic" in any sense other than the art style, really.

meh, guess im one of the few guys who can't stomach the series. i rate what i watch or read da same way i'd rate a book, album, television show, or movies, from a non-anime fan's point of view. quality of some manga (monster) can best some of the most celebrated books and same with anime (bebop) to movies. elitist or not, i'm a non-anime fan's anime fan.

Sure, everyone has different tastes, no one's forcing you to like anything.

I was just confused when I saw it placed alongside Shuffle!, I mean, even if you find Haruhi cliched, Shuffle! is like the epitome the harem genre -_-;;.

Not really, I dabble into a bit of everything so I can't really call myself an elitist, I just get a bit meh over the porn side of manga. Like I'm rather repulsed by hentai, yaoi, yuri etc...

Hey I dispise Naruto and One Piece and I don't think I'm an elitist.

i dont mind harem rele, most love-comedy type manga/anime has em, da very first manga i finished was love hina; seto no hanayome and to-love-ru are pretty funny. so i cant even front about not enjoyin it in my series.

there is a big difference from being an elitist and a snob. even manga i dislike i can still see some good in it. those who are condescending to others and arrogant tend to be snobs when they dismiss things they have no experience in. making claims that you love or hate things for superficial reasons rather than from an objective standpoint just means you still have a lot to learn.

Totally agreed on the narutards.

...Actually, that's the only type of Naruto fan I use the term on.

Uhhh.....You are all manga retards and anime retards in my eyes.

Same here. I feel the very attempt of some people in here desperately trying to vouch for their personal favourite shounen is already SOAKED in litres of FAIL.

1. Nobody cares. This is the internet; stop professing.
2. Everyone can read on their own, you don't have to go on about trying get people to read something you like.

As far as being an Elitist or a Manga Snob is concerned -- first one would have to clarify what exactly either of those is supposed to be.

Do I read something based on its popularity?
No.

Do I deem something good/bad because of its popularity?
No.

How do I decide on what to read then?
That's the point, I don't go around actively looking for something to feast my eyes upon. When I read something, it's usually something I stumbled over, while doing something totally different. I don't know how many times I've walked in on conversations in chatrooms where people were discussing a series' content, not whether they like it or not. So I decided to give it a try. There are some people who do it the other way around. They pick a series, then collect as much info as they can to make sure they have the most biased opinion of it one can have when they finally start reading the first chapter. This is simply retarded; everyone in their right mind should be able judge something only after having let it affect themselves.

Narutards are similar to religious people.

They've been completely brainwashed to believe in some made up bullshit. For Religion, they believe there's a higher power and there's an invisible man in the sky who's watching everybody at all times. For Naruto, they believe he's actually a ninja.

As long as they don't come to me and pester me about it, I couldn't give a shit. I leave them be.
