Both of these amount to not using masOS to play games. One is imitation of the supported OS, while the other is just using the other OS. Yes, you can make it work, but in these cases you can't make it work while being a mac.

But yes, the end result is the same. With just a slight amount of computer literacy, you can run the games on your mac. And to play games on a PC the same is usually true anyway (Bugs are easy to fix once you've done it a few times, and oh so common).

And Steam has recently started to bring games to Mac users, who are more likely to enjoy the service since they're less likely to have used it when it first came out (biggest reason people loathe Steam occurred 6 years ago, and much has changed), and are far more used to using applications to do things than PC users. I like it though... them weekend and holiday deals get dirt cheap.

i am always with pc gaming. i hate it if people think it is dead. sometimes i think people are deliberately promoting consoles ( not including handheld consolves ) by only making games for them. sure, consoles are more fast and can support better graphics but can they at least try to make a low resolution version of the games for the pc too. i hate the fact that i can never get to play halo 3, metal gear solid 4, final fantasy games and others in my pc ever. also they should remember that pc played a big part in making gaming more advanced and popular. when i think of the differences between pc and console controls, pc gaming is more complex where in consoles it's just some few button mashing. like the difference between star trek and star wars ( i am a star trek fan by the way ). anyway i just want to say whatever may happen in the future i will always support pc gaming.

They're kind of incomparable to me. I use my PC for more precise games (AND I CAN USE GARRYS MOD HAHAHA).... And my PS3 for most first person shooters, hack-and-slash, and platforming games. I have The Orange Box for both, and as it is enjoyable on PS3, it's much more satisfying to me to make portals or kill headcrabs using a mouse... and I don't find playing Modern Warfare 2 on my computer quite as fun.

Anyway, for me, I use both, and to borrow the star trek vs. star wars example from veenav.... I think they're both great (OMG CAPTAIN KIRK'S SHIRT JUST GOT TORN *dies*) and don't seem very similar to me at all, besides the fact that they're both in the gaming industry/space.

Since I can take someone's trash and append it to my PC, or build a new one, and have a versatile tool as well as play games on it; the choice is clear to me.

While I do respect the practical usability issues resolved with the console way, my most recent experiences with consoles have been baffling to me. To me consoles have been; pop in game, play. But now they're having users install parts of the game, upgrades and downloadable content... so much that I ask myself if the benefits aren't being chipped away here?

Also it is a lot easier to pirate games on PC, it's simply the economical choice for me.

Hear hear

Back in the days, consoles (think Nintendo) were fun because you could hook them up to your TV and instantly play games on it (insert cartridge and play).
These days, at least on a PS3 (assuming the rest is the same), you have incredible long loading times (seems like less on a PC, ignoring initial installation) and loads of patches and stuff that need to be downloaded.
Usually I simply lose interest in playing the game during these long waits.

Also, I mostly play singe-player RPGs (don't like mmo's and the like) and play for FUN not achievement or status... So if I want to cheat, I cheat; if I want to mod, I mod. Try that with a console.

So indeed, why a console?
- The hardware may be somewhat cheaper than a common gaming computer, but the games are twice as expensive (or more) and you can't upgrade a console... Also, I'm sure most people already own a computer.
- Consoles are no longer faster. Sure you don't need to install the entire game, but I'd rather wait 20min. the first time (and only time) than needing to wait every single time I want to play.
- Console software is restrictive. Though this may be a non issue for gamers, if I need to fork out the money for hardware, I want to be able to use it for other things as well (think HTPC with decent support for various formats and codecs).
- You can hook computers up to a TV these days much easier than say 10 years ago. So why not hook it up, buy a simple bluetooth controller and have fun playing games the cheaper way.

A major reason I don't like consoles, the controls! There's just no precision, most shooters have an auto aim function because the players can't aim themselves :S

I also kind of like strategic games. And PC is the king in that genre, mainly because the crappy controls won't allow it on consoles.

More stuff I dislike about consoles is how you could buy a PS3 and then not be able to play other console games because they're only for xbox....
And speaking of xbox, I hate how they make you pay for using your internet to play multiplayer It feels ridiculous to first pay for your bandwith, then pay again to use it

for me its pc if you think about it pc can be upgraded as time passes but console when a new one came out or its not that popular they are stopping producing games for that which is not really good the advantage of pc is you can play a lot of mmo w/c the console you can count in your fingers the mmo exist in console
