Quote from ahoaho
I say that an elitist is one who criticizes a) a persons choice in media if it does not match their own b) one who shuns those who do not have a knowledge of the media of which they claim to be fans c) one who criticizes bandwagon jumpers d) one who is strict when it comes to the content of manga (you could say picky to an extreme extent)

Hmm...they're all me bar (a). Dammit, you've me summarised me to a point.

Unless there's a clear definition of "manga elitist" and reading only the "elite" manga, you can really judge yourself or anyone to be that way.

But as for Narutards and Bleachphiles or whatever they're called, I'm not one of them. I read the popular, and some other good ones I find. To me, not caring about something as long as its good is the way to go.

I don't think so. I really, really hate Naruto, but I still like popular stuff like Death Note. [even though I was a fan before the anime even existed in Japanese and now almost everyone has seen it in English D: ]

But still. I'm not mean to Narutards or anything. The majority of them are usually tame, from what I've come across. Although when I do encounter an, "OMG I TTLY LUV SASUKE HES TTLY MY HUSBIND!!11!!12!!" I usually just try to ignore it.

No, I don't think I am. I read a bit of everything so I don't really consider myself one.

Well, I guess it depends on the definition.

I definitely don't drop series just because they become mainstream, but I do have the tendency to stay away from anime because it doesn't do the manga justice. (Major examples: Bleach and Naruto.)

I just find it kind of sad when "Narutards" and the like don't even try to explore other series or can't even comprehend the fact that mainstream =/= the best thing ever.

I'm an elitist in the sense that I can't stand most of the mainstream popular stuff.

I do make fun of narutards, but thats just my friends who buy head bands and all that shit, taking a little to far.. Nope, I just go through about every shounen and senien manga on here, and find a series I like. I refuse to watch anime because I find manga more enjoyable.

I'm not an Elitist

Not at all. I'll read, or at least try, mainstream popular manga if it looks interesting. Even though I never managed to get into Naruto I did used to like Bleach until it became dragged out to eternity, but I don't care if others like them. I guess it is a little irritating when some fans insist they're the greatest thing ever when they've never really read or watched much of anything else, though.

I might think to myself that they're clueless, but I don't ridicule them for it. Most of them are just kids a bit overexcited about something they like; they'll move past that phase eventually.

I don't really care if the anime adaptation of manga I like strays from the original either. If it strays and I don't like it then oh well. It's not like I don't have the manga version to read anymore, so what does it matter? Sometimes it can stray and still be good, then you get two variations of a story you like. I don't really care to see the exact same story all over again anyway.

while I don't think that Naruto deserves its popularity, I'll read it anyway when I got bored and have nothing better to do. Its not like I hate it or like it, actually it doesn't matter to me, if Naruto's mangaka suddenly died and the series dropped.

so Im not really an elitist

No.
I'm not.
Who cares?
As long as you like it, it doesn't even matter.

Obviously people care if they bothered to make a thread about it.

Guess you could call me an anti-dub elitist. Just about the only anime that was english dubbed that I tolerated was Pokemon and even then I found the changes unpleasant. Otherwise I'm quite open about accepting almost any series. Exceptions include any series that has been censored in any way. Butchering series for U.S. consumption has to be the greatest sin a distributor can commit.
