These were the first few mangas I read and they really cemented the fact that long sagas with 100+ chapters are just not for me.

Skip Beat:

1. The art. For a fairly newbie reader like myself I couldn't follow the wacked out panelling. I had to read some pages twice and I still didn't fully get what was going on. Next, I thought Ren was drawn really weirdly, with that stupid triangle chin of his. To not be able to get into the main bishie of the story, a big minus for me.

2. The Love Me thing was stupid, and at volume 6 with about 15 chapters to go, I didn't want to read further (and it's STILL ongoing). I mean are they going to follow her story until she wins an oscar or something? I really just wanted her to rise a bit faster to stardom so I could see her whoop Shou's ass. I think if she got famous by volume 9 and confronted Shou/get with Ren or whatever/resolved everything/ENDED by volume 12 I would have kept reading.

Fruits Basket:

1. Also TL;DR.

2. There are way too many characters. By the time I got to Kureno, I was like aren't there only 12 animals in the zodiac? Why is there a 32nd Sohma in this story?!

3. I could tell it was going in the way of angsty. I stopped just when Kyou transformed into the ugly cat. I was kind of interested in who Tohru would end up with so I read spoilers. I'm glad I stopped where I did because it got a whole lot more twisted after that. Boys is really girls, whose boyfriend is sleeping with your mom, so you get it on with your cousin, and other cousin seduces other cousin because they have a cure for a curse. eek

I don't read mangas to be all depressed, so this one's personal preference. Although I had no problem with Hatori, bish is HOT.

The Wallflower:

1. Art: The very first manga I started reading. Bad choice, since it was confusing as hell to follow. All the characters look the same to me. So I didn't know who was who and that just added to the confusion.

2. Boring. At least Skip Beat and Fruits Basket managed to keep me reading into several volumes in. To me once they spiffied her up for the aunt's party, that's all I needed to see. And I believe that happens all in the first volume so that's where I stopped. Yup.

I don't like Vampire Knight. I mean at first it was interesting but then it started trying to do too much and I started to dislike the direction

Quote from hatsumimi99
Quote from Dubby
you knew all their problems were linked, yes, but I wasn't interested in seeing the main cast or other characters I don't care about solve through them.

This was probably all I wanted to see straightened out: the fact that it was the main cast, not the "main story". Everything else was just tl;dr, and I wouldn't care to argue it anyway.

You misunderstand me. I said (and part you seem to cut out of that quote) I lost interest in the story by volume 3, didn't I? Let me repeat myself:

I did not care about the story. I didn't give a flying duck about the whole 12 animal crap. I didn't care. The side stories I liked? They rarely mentioned the plot. You see Arisa and Kureno's first meeting, and it mentions NOTHING of the main plot till the end of the chapter. I knew Kureno would eventually free himself, and I didn't care much about how it would be done. I just ignored the parts. I just saw the side stories as completely unrelated to the plot. I hated the main story AND the main characters.

And those that did connect to the "main story" barely did. Why do you think Iost interest in Haru/Rin and Akito/Shigure?

The Wallflower...it was funny when I started reading it, but after awhile, it got tiring...the story just kept going on and on without much depth. And the chibis...there's too much of it.

I personally enjoy Perfect Girl Evolution precisely because nothing ever happens. I like to think of it as a spoof slice-of-life Ranma-esque manga. I've lost any romantic hope for the series at like volume 3, though the newest chapters are a bit more Kyouhei x Sunako based.

I also like Skip Beat for the same reason. I don't really think of it as a romance manga. It's a manga about Kyouko's trials and tribulations in show biz and yuri moments with her best friend (amiright). Yeah, it's a completely different manga than the beginning volumes, and it's not really as good as that first manga.

***
Now for the stuff I -don't- like.

Fushigi Yuugi/Fushigi Yuugi Genbu Kaiden - Fushigi Yuugi vol1 was literally my first shoujo ever. I loved it. I couldn't get past volume 7, though, and after that I found the artwork dated and the characters irritating. Then Genbu Kaiden just seems like a bastard child of FY and Absolute Boyfriend.

#@%$, time for work. Post the rest later. Cause I have a huge TL;DR post to write about this. XD

DN Angel - Boring

Love Celeb - Just utterly ridiculous. As if a teenager could bend the whole of Japan to his will regardless of his family background. The whoel making a star out of anyone regardless of talent is mad as well and the 'Love conquers all' message at the end was like the epilogue of some Disney film or that cheesy pokemon narrator.

Fushigi Yuugi - One of my first ever manga but looking back it wasn't a great plot and I can't for the life of me understand why the continued after volume 8.

[m]Kyou Koi wo Hajimemasu[/m] - I gave up when it became cliched and huge drama was made out of what to wear on a date. Pathetic.

see the thing with me is that I due to reading so many mangas have become very particular, after reading master pieces in my opinion like Nana and other Ai Yazawa works I get really angry at some mangas for just being so cliched. So here I go:
I absolutely HATE Vampire Knight, mainly because I'm not a huge fan of this Twilight craze girls are into, that being said I hate Vampire Knight because A) Yuki is annoying and I hate it when one girl gets all the guys for being absolutely NOTHING special. B) Kaname is the coolest character who has loads of layers (in my opinion) but Zero I cannot stand I just find him really annoying and emo (he has a right to be it, but I don't like that.)

My second dislike was Absolute boyfriend, I'm sorry cyborg men really do not do it for me, I'm not a big fan of Yuu Watase in my view shes pretty anti-feminist.

Goong- its just dragging and the plot is getting more and more unrealistic, I also hate the way the art is going seriously the main guy looks like a cat, I own cats I KNOW WHAT A CAT LOOKS LIKE, he looks like some thing out of thunder cats.

Kimi Wa petto - I don't like older woman x younger guy relationships.
Beauty Pop- It in my view IS NOTHING special really NOTHING special at all.
Love monster- God terrible story

Shinjo Mayu stuff- she is just terrible...sorry but she makes me want to break my laptop

The Wallflower- it could have been sooo much better then it was/is it started well in my view but then the manga-ka decided to string it out for years.
Special A- its really nothing special to be honest (no pun intended)
Kare First Love- I read it till the end because people said it was a master piece, but really the whole thing was one giant fairy tale nothing new nothing special there.

Gosh I have moaned a lot, but I am a manga-ka myself (working progress) and it makes me angry when people say these mangas are some thing amazing when I come up with better ideas every day, some times the art is poor as well which tops it alll off. What makes me really annoyed though is when a manga like The wallflower starts off well, then just fails. Its like what's the point?

Anything by Yuu Watase.
She just reads like one cliche after another, it's awful...
