Do you owe your parents for the gift of life?

Poll
Do you owe your parents for having you and taking care of you when you were growing up?
Yes - W/out them I wouldn't be here, so I should do everything I can to pay them back
Yes - I will take care of them when they are older, but right now I am my own person
No - I am my own person, I will take care of them out of the goodbess of my heart, but I don't feel obligated to
No - Screw them, I didn't ask to be here. They made me themselves and they should be responsible for me, not the other way around.

Some of the responses on this thread are a bit discomforting, but I digress that every family is different.

For me, I love my parents and feel lucky that they have given me the gift of life. I know the hardships my parents went through in order to provide me with a good upbringing. Even though I don't always agree with them (yes, they can get annoying), I know whatever they do and say is for my own wellbeing. Who I am today is due in a large part to my mum and dad and for that I am immensely greatful. So while I've never thought that I owe my parents anything, I still want to do everything I can to pay them back tenfold from here on out for everything they've done and sacrificed for me.

Yes. I am extremely thankful to both of them. =) I love my parents. I would do anything for my mother, and we have an understanding relationship so I don't have complaints here. XD Though she can get annoying at times...<.<; But I am who I am today because of both my parents, and both supported me through everything I've gone through. :3

Second option, because the first seems a bit OOT.

I know I'm one of the more lucky people to have a family that's still together and cares, even though it's slightly flawed. But I am thankful for their work over the past 17 years to get me where I am today, and I probably will care for them when their older, provided they don't turn ridiculously grumpy and horrible to be around because they're going to be moaning about everything in my life and point out all of it's flaws laugh

No - If they really loved me they would have made me immortal.

I'm all for treating my parents very well, and taking care of them when they get older, but at the moment I'm an independent person.

The gift of life is random, you weren't handpicked by your parents to have you, its by chance. Sure I'm grateful that out of the million other little ones I was especially chosen, I thank God for that. I thank my parents I'm alive.

But do I feel I have to owe them...?

I owe them for taking care of me and guiding me in the right direction, but not me for being "born."

Yeah and I'm glad to be alive biggrin Sure I have my disagreements with them and some petty disputes but hey, in return for free food, clothes, my personal hobbies, and etc, I do take care of my old people (that sounds harsh, but they are old). If it weren't for them, then I'd never come across yaoi laugh I have some crazy family.

If I could of been born out of nowhere I would of >.>

All I really feel is a strong sense of payment and I hate it, because I don't think they deserve it because you know, things are rarely planned, and it's not like giving birth is rare. I am not "thankful," though. I feel like I will have to spend the rest of my life tolerating the fact that without them, I wouldn't be alive at all (etc. etc.)

Nope.
They can look after themselves, or my brothers can look after 'em.
they won't have to count on me.
