I dont remember them saying that they will use TC as reference.....
I have seen the coments on their previous sire in which they told that new website was under construction and I think the present one they are talking about. Could you give the source by which you can tell that they used TC as reference because I dont remember them making this statement......
And if you check the site, its COMPLETLY different from what it was and is in no way simmilar to the company....
If we go on further, then MF will say that Batoto copied their layoout and that MF formed as a base for the creation of Batoto (which is in fact true in someways.)

Someone mentioned that as long as the manga is in a satisfying quality then I would definitely choose speed over "high" quality any time of the day. It doesn't need to be perfect since I am reading the series of my computer screen anyway. I just want the manga to have a correct translation and a good looking resolution. It doesn't have to be high quality, medium is enough.

But I don't want the series to be poorly done either. If a series is in a really bad quality, has incredibly bad translation etc etc then I would rather wait an extra week for a decent or high quality to show up.

it was posted on his previous site where youni was asked if he thinks a blog is good enough , he said he liked the one tc has even asked around for the specific theme so he can duplicate that too

Mangafox can't make such claims , they use vbulletin boards , while batoto uses IPBoard which are mostly modified by grumpy to suit the needs of the batoto users. One would have thought you would know such simple facts giving how you are contributor there , but i guess an empty title gives you that much after all.

Hahaa.... well I am aware of that. (By the way,the title is not really empty....check around and you would find about it).You didnt get what I am saying. Batoto was created in order to stop sites like mf to gain profit and help scanlators. And what I meant was that if you consider TC and MP site same, then in that aspect/that way of thinking similarities will lie in MF and Batoto. Ofcourse they both have complete different system but doesnt that apply to MP and TC then ?
If you go like this, then people will say that MF and Batoto have inspired each other as both are readers and have forums. Well it wont make sense. Forums and readers existed before....no one can tell what inspired what. In short I want to say that you cant accuse MP of copying TC site. Doesnt MF have reader and forums;then would you say that Batoto copied MF? That will be nonsense. It wont really make any sense to compare them..... And same goes for MP.
Its like you want to say that MP cant be original....But well they are!

It's empty in your case , seeing how you cant see the truth even if it hits you in the face or get what i'm trying to say even if i try to make it as simple as possible.

Batoto could have used vbulleting , or smf forums or foolrulz reader for that matter , because they are all nice and easy to use , have plenty of examples over the internet , so help can be asked if troubles arise, but instead grumpy went with IPBoard , something that doesnt even support online reader on its own , so he pretty much made it on his own , with only one thought inspiring him and that is to not be an ass like mangafox, mangareader and folks , instead he chose to do something original that supports everyone and doesnt make him filthy rich for no reason. He chose to do this while having a scanlation group going with only a handfull of staff doing several projects that non had touched for a long time. You tell me if that sounds like mangafox at all.

Now lets see what Youni did for this community - he released tb:new waves with quality far lower than what a-team presents, most chapters he couldnt even manage to get a decent quality for the images, even though daum is the only source for that; he gave up and several months later he does what - steals right and left from everyone (again) , doesnt care if he downgrades the series , their meaning and more importantly their content at all. Pretends he does something for the community while the only thing that goes is filling his pockets just like MF does.

So please stop defending his ass and think on your own for a change , i know its hard , but it feels much better , than being someone's puppet.

I am aware of the facts which you mentioned above. I dont think I can convey the content I want to.....Lets quit that topic.
I am not someone's puppet. I just dislike the fact that MP is being criticised too much.
They are also contributing to community like many other groups are. Everyone have their own right to choose which project they wanted to do. They are not forcing anyone to read there;if you dont want to,you dont have to. Those who like their releases, can read it while others can wait for other groups. Looking at the situation, its like many ganging up on one. Many groups do popular series in different qualities, but people wont mind that. For MP is different, many people are sounding like as if they have broken some law made by God.....

Well I support every group present out there. For me they bring out content which I might have missed if they werent present. Just because you like one group doesnt mean that you should insult the other group which is also translating the same.
MP is a group like any other and it deserve its respect.

This quality vs speed thing is EXACTLY the same as any other "this vs that" sort of thing, like should a boxer value speed vs power vs skill or being born rich vs being born with high IQ...

The thing is: all of these traits have NUMBERS aka VALUES aka DIFFERENT AMOUNTS. It's not black or white, it's shades of grey.

Like for a fighter, you can't say "speed vs strength"... you have to be specific, like "would you rather have a left jab that connects in 0.35 seconds and hits with 500 N force, or a jab that connects in 0.30 seconds and hits with 800 N force?"
Quality vs speed is the same, you have to be very specific.

Now, in mangapirates case (let's set aside the stealing other people's work allegations for this), in terms of quality... I actually don't see much difference, for most of the series which I read that they churn out! It's pretty much same quality as other groups, only difference is that they're much faster! That's why I read a lot of stuff from them.

BUT... I have seen a few series where the quality was so bad that I would NOT read their stuff. Artwork wise, I remember this group that was scanning RAWs from their cheap local Hong Kong version of Jump, and the picture quality was BAD, cause the HK comic itself was like 5cent photocopy quality and then rescanned and editted and by the time it reached us readers, it was like reading a manga through frosted glass.
BTW, that reminds me of Hunter X Hunter and the period where he was releasing Sketch X Pencil style and you could hardly see what he was drawing!
Translationwise, I've seen horrible stuff that I'm wondering "huh? Huh? What's actually going on in this chapterconfused" and then someone else releases it and I'm like "ah... now I get it..."

Speedwise... mangapirate is not MUCH faster than other groups for some of it's series... some of them it's just a day or two earlier.
But then, for some series, like Devil King is Bored, the other groups were on indefinite pause, so mangapirate's release was infinity times better lol.

If I know that waiting a few days will let me read a much more entertaining version of a chapter, I will usually wait for it. Unless there's a major cliffhanger that I MUST find out what happened!
But I'm not willing to wait for months though!

BTW, take a look at "win or die", which has baki son of ogre translations. Now that is REALLY poor quality, he basically sticks a few images of the chapter there and puts a quick translation underneath it. In terms of scanlation quality, any scanlation group would fire all the members involved in such a piece of work.
And yet... it has a LOT of web traffic and faithful followers. (me included)
Why? Cause for a long time, IT WAS THE ONLY GAME IN TOWN.

That's one more point to consider in the whole "quality vs speed" question. If I release a crappy scan 3 days ahead of your good scan... that in fact means, for 3 whole days, my scan is the highest quality in existance! And if you don't have a regular release schedule, for those entire 3 days, the readers have no idea how long it's going to be before YOU release, but there's a copy released RIGHT NOW on mangapirate...

That's the point , there is no actual contribution on their behalf for series that were already done , its what bugs everyone , it what gets ppl to hate them. To do a series that is already taken care of and not produce anything better is a clear sign of being an ass and that you only want the monetary gains coming from doing such thing. You cant say they deserve better , when they dont offer such things , but instead they go against what little decency was left in the scanlation community (yes i do think there is decency here , altough shmucks like youni decide there isnt , so they just ruin it for everyone). And yes you are their puppet as long as you dont see the truth , it will happen if TC or EGS decided to not do more TOG , Kubera , Noblesse , GOH and all you have is MP's mistranslated piece of shit that doesnt let you connect 2 chapters together , let alone the plot of the whole story , then you will beg , but it will be your own fault this misconduct happened. /Then again i know neither TC or EGS will give up , because they made those projects the hot piece of ass they are , that allowed groups like MP to chew on their popularity , but thats only because in spite of everything , they will remain the better ones and will give you what you should get , not jiberrish and pisswork/

If you knew such facts , you wouldn't have even dared compare MF and Batoto , just the thought of that should be a black mark on your mind forever.

Guys ~ I think we are giving [MP] too much attention.
They have delete their previous site and comment to hide their shame already.
(manga curse and sakicow did something similar in the past I wonder if there is a connection?)

There are ppl who like reading shitty releases as long as they are fast and there are ppl who like reading Quality releases. Those that like to read crappy releases know where to go and those that like to read quality also know where to go.

In their new site donation box they say and I quote: "Shut up and give us your money" <--- this is not a fanmade post to mock them by some guy... This is what they wrote themselves. So I think enough said... ^_^

But I am disappointed that manga updates allowed them to release here.

What I suggest we do from now on is IGNORE them. Soon ppl will stop visiting their site.

Claudia, be quiet if you don't know enough popular culture to know where that comes from, don't spew your ignorance here. And don't be jealous. Oh, and go work out. Thanks <3

This is the second I am reading this but I have to say again, a release is a release ... you are (not) suggesting what exactly? that Manga Updates starts to filter releases based on what standards exactly?

I am disappointed on people trying to push a agenda into a neutral site and I leave it at that.

Hmm, lets break free from all this and get back to the original question... I think at first speed > quality at least for the die hard fans. After reading it once it becomes quality > speed... However, I think mangapirate is just another thing that pops up and will go its own way in a few months... what matters to me more is continuality.... I dont care if a group pushes out 5 chapters at once (I mean i am more than happy then) BUT... there is also the chance that the group only rides the flow and will drop the series if it gets uninteresting for the majority. if there is a group that is willing to finish a series (not bound by popularity and sticking to its own rules) I will always prefer the regular group. Mangapirate is great for speed addicts, but it wont last long. Sooner or later they will drop the series. EGscans and The Company on the other hand have proven to last over years. they may not always be the fastest but in the end they endured hardships or whatever and finished chapter over chapter. they will prevail couz they really like the series and will stick with it... so in the end i think its regular groups > mangapirate

It's actually quite a popular meme on the interwebs right now.............................

@argument that MP is stealing some other reader's layout... like another guy was trying to say, it's quite a common layout. Last time I heard, one of the qualifications of owning a manga reader was not "creativity"

@argument that youni's translations are crappy: well, they're not perfect (for perfect translations, see the group who does yamada and the 7 witches) but they're definitely not, as people have mocked it as, "google translate" quality. They're readable. I've spoken with Youni, and he is fluent in both Korean and English.

@argument that MP's releases are low quality: yes, they don't clean their sfx. But they've only released webtoons (and not raw manga) so far so it's hard to say anything else about it, since the quality really isn't that much worse

@argument that MP is in it for the money: well, duh? But the thing is, leechers (aka 99% of readers) don't care whether the scanlators are making money or not, so long as 1) it doesn't interfere too much with their reading, 2) they don't have to pay for the manga, and 3) they get their manga frequently.

There are plenty of awful things people can say, and have said, about Mangapirate but these ^ arguments are dumb. So stop. roll eyes
