I love this manga, I own all ten volumes and I wish it had been longer. I think I first picked it up because it was gender bender, which is my favorite genre. I was kinda disappointed about the ending , I was hoping for an ending where maybe they all three step through the door at the same time, although I'm a Mashiro and Sou fan. For some reason I had already guessed who the knight was fairly early on, then dismissed it due to what Sou had said, but it turned out I was right all along. The ending kinda screws with your head though... I can probably safely assume that no one saw that coming, and if you did you must be Sherlock himself.


So, what did you all think about the ending? What were your hopes on how it would end?

Yeah I didn't saw that coming. But I didn't hope for the three of them to pass together the door after all only one person could pass it and it was no surprise that it was Mashiro. But I didn't really like the fact that everything stopped after her passage.

If I remember correctly from months ago, after all the clues the author gave and after the giraffe genius, I felt that the ending had to do with rebirth. There were many factors which hinted this. After all, it was very suspicious that nobody else knew about the nurse except for the players of the game. Plus, since the genius fell down to the abyss of nothing, it seemed to represent death. I would assume that the genius would be at least shown to contact the main boy-girl character later in the story. I feared that I was correct so I skipped to the ending. It just confirmed it. The ending is as if nothing had changed- it's like playing a game which destroys the gamer's sense of accomplishment:

Hero is wimpy and sees bad people destroying his/her home village. Hero goes and travels. Hero goes and beats up antagonist. Hero wins. Hero becomes strong. Hero then forgets everything since that was just a dream.

Basically, I feel that the main boy-girl character didn't really change- memories are also what make a person, not just their soul. Seeing that boy-girl character restart disappointed me. It's as if he was always a girl- his resulting condition being similar to mind wipes and drastic personality changes in other gender bending stories not limited to manga. But hey, to each their own.

I found the ending to be satisfying, yet unbearable at the same time. This was undoubtedly one of my favorite mangas, but the ending left me a little, ehhh...

All-in-all, it was okay I guess. The author should've done more, maybe by adding an entire chapter based on the 'real' Mashiro?
But then again, this is Setona Mizushiro we're talking about.

The ending threw me off a little bit, I wasn't sure what to suspect at that point. I was always wondering why the characters were accepting all the absurdity without questioning it.

Anyways, is the whole point of them living life before they were really born to prepare them for a similar life? As in, they will experience the same hardships? It would really be depressing if Kureha is raped again...

I really enjoyed the ending and certainly did not see that coming xD
Though I would've liked a more .. hmm ... enlightenment from the boy-girl? Like a little monologue on how she thought of everything.

To the post above ^^, I think it's referring to their previous lives? O_o
and they must get over their previous lives to move on?
It's not really said, but I see it as so.

Actually, this was a REALLY good ending. I didn't expect it, but it was good. But I wasn't too surprised either. Throughout the whole manga, I was thinking graduating meant either being reborn or death. Like when the genius/giraffe graduated, he was going into a black hole. It was like a pre-life obstacle. All-in-all, satisfied with the ending. But there's a part of me wishing I could have seen more Mashiro/Sou. xD

I'm also satisfied by the ending. In fact, I thought it was awesome. One of the best manga endings I've had the pleasure to read, actually.

Maybe someone can help me with this...

I found the ending didn't really make sense. I get the whole rebirth thing...but I though the only ones to be reborn were the ones who pass through the door. For example, in the last chapter the one kid (can't remember the name) who didn't pass through, or gave up the game, ended up dying as a baby in the hospital. Yet Sou, and the others who were left after the main character passed through were reborn anyway (at least Sou was). It kinda confused me.

I really liked the manga, but found it sad. One of the things that made me sad was the fact the the main character turned out to be just a girl. He/she started out as a male persona and I always thought though of it as he/she was both, and that's who he/she was. To me, in the end, it just felt like the author killed half of the main character, and that made me a little disappointed. Why couldn't two souls share a body after being reborn? After all, both passed through the door (or at least that's how I saw it. Even if the girl side was supressing the boy side at the time, he was still there wasn't he?)

In the "real" world...
Mashiro's mom was having complications in her pregnancy... Possible outcomes were:
All three (she + unborn twins) would die.
She would live, but the twins would die.
She would die, but the twins would live.
She would live, and only ONE of the twins would live.

In a sense... it's like nature is at play... maybe there wasn't enough resources to nurture both babies in the mother's womb... so the twins are basically competing with each other for life. So the "After School Nightmare"... well... the whole manga basically is a big metaphor on the boy and girl trying to fight for survival. In the end, the girl survived.

I dunno... that's my take on it... I'm sorry if I confuse you even more!!

I found this ending really suprising but also satisfying too . A real thought evoking ending. If memory serves correctly I saw something someone wrote that to see what happens in the future there are hints on the volume covers. (like the cover picture of sou and mashiro in chapter 32. Also chapter 33 has a picture of Kureha and Mashiro.)

the ending was satisfying,it made up for all the disturbing events that happened throughout the manga....i guess it means that they are going to face the same problems after rebirth but they will move on
