You know I am under the impression that the ending of Ichigo 100% is one of the most debatable/most discussed/most liked and hated endings I have seen.
Don't you agree... How come? Beacuse the the girl he ended up with is not the most expected - as of cliches and past stories of the same theme in history of manga.
I for one think if anything is the most realistic as I already wrote in the other post....
It's just an observation and I was wondering if I was right and if there are other endings discussed as much as these
(You know, most series from this mangaka bigrazz bigrazz bigrazz -just kidding)

Uhh..so..what exactly is the purpose of this thread? Find manga that have similar unpredictable/debatable ending? Discussing the end of Ichigo 100%?

I think the OP wants to discuss why the ending is one of the most debated endings in recent manga history.

I'm probably repeating myself from the other thread, but I liked and hated the ending.

The reason why I hated it was because I did want Manaka to get with Aya. They seemed right for each other, and the relationship he had with Nishino was hollow no matter what. The only reason why Nishino was even in the story was because of Manaka being pressured into asking her out. And then there was the fact that Nishino left the country twice, which should've lit up something in Manaka's brain that Nishino might not be the right one for her. If he would've done the smart thing by not falling into peer pressure, he and Aya would've been together (Or at least at some point. Manaka and Aya were too dumb and shy in not telling each other their feelings for most of the story.).

The reason why I liked the ending was because it broke the rules of any romance story. Usually, the protagonist ends up with the 1st person they meet, the last person they meet, or just end up alone. Manaka ends up with the 3rd girl that he meets (Yui was 1st, and Aya was 2nd).

I liked the ending for Ichigo 100% it did seem real, any other ending wouldn't really be all that fitting for the manga anyway. As for other series with debatable endings that's basically most shounens. Like the recent Change Guy ending? I think it's only because long series tend to drag on for too long and any ending would feel either unsatisfied or simply rushed. Though I have read shoujos with endings that have been quite debatable as well.

Edit: I'm confused. Is this a thread for alternate endings for Ichigo 100%, or just debatable endings for manga in general?

YOU say otherwise.

Spoiler (highlight to view)
BURNED.

laugh

But seriously this thread is for finding out why this is one of the most debatable endings in recent manga history.

At least that's what I got from what the OP typed.

I'm confused about this thread as well, if it's talking about other endings then this should be moved. And...

The reason why I hated it was because...
This post is an example of why I think this thread might end up the same as the ending discussion thread.

Time will tell I guess....

I messed up the thread in just 8 words. laugh

Well, if the OP could elaborate a bit more, then we can figure out what the true point of this thread is about.

If that's the case just look at the comments in the other thread... bigrazz

Anyway please disregard my previous comment, it seems like this thread is only about the Ichigo 100% ending...it won't last!

Actually I was wondering if there are other manga out there with so much debatable endings and the reasons where when I say reasons I am not particular about the story and the mangaka but why do people found it debatable in general meanings i.e Most people like the cute, reserved characters because of background (many many shoujo stories have as main character those), Most people don't like the unexpected and - at least at first - don't take it well (maybe after an hour or two or a second reading they will come to accept it and/or even like it)... Such reasons. And also now that I think about it maybe it is the wrong forum. It's just that I thought about this with ichigo100% in mind so I ended up posting it in the ichigo100% forum

@loosecannon504 , the relationship between Nishino and Manaka wasnt hollow. You could say, it was hollow when they were going out in middle school. But, after they broke up, and met each other again in their workplace, in the neighbourhood, in Manaka's house, in Nishino's hometown, taking Manaka out to the seaside when he was depressed, ......how can you say this second phase of their relationship was hollow? In contrast I would say Manaka and Aya's relationship was more shallow beacuse all they ever talked about when they got together was movies, movies and more movies, Aya never really had the perception and insight into what Manaka was feeling compared to Nishino who knew what Manaka was feeling most of the time and Nishino always asked what was troubling Manaka and then tried her best to help Manaka cope with his problems, this is what you call a recipocrative relationship. In short Nishino was all that Manaka was not and they fit each other like a "hand in a glove" while Aya was too much like Manaka to be perfect for him. I wouldnt say she woulkd have been a bad choice because she definitely is an amazing girl by her own rights. What I mean to say is your point f Tsukasa and Nishino's relationship is hollow is completely unjustified as the second phase of their relationship when they started to truly understand each other and about the misunderstanding that Manaka chose Nishino because he thought Aya had a boyfriend is denied by Manaka himself when when Sotomura asked Manaka if his reason for choosing Nishino was based on Toujo having a boyfriend, but Manaka said that he chose Nishino because of her qualities and not because of Toujo having a boyfriend. This is because by then, Manaka knew how p0recious Tsukasa was to him

Weren't they single and just friends when Tsukasa came back the first time?

Yes they were but that is when they truly started understanding each other or do you only mean they have to be going out with each other to be shallow or hollow. If that's the case, then Aya and Manaka were also only friends and never in a relationship which is exactly what Nishino and Manaka was when Tsukasa came back the second time except this time they shared alot of things that Manaka and Tsukasa never did in their middle school years. Also Tsukasa still loved Manaka at that time.

When I meant relationship, I meant "Boyfriend-Girlfriend relationship". As that kind of relationship, nothing really happened with them and it just seemed like the mangaka had them together so that Manaka wouldn't be able to get with the girl he was looking for, and therefore make the manga longer than it needed to be (And it was longer than it needed to be).

And while they got to know more about each other when she came back, they were just friends at that time. They could've gotten back together at any time after she came back because Manaka wasn't going out with anyone, Tsukasa still loved him, and Manaka liked Tsukasa the most out of any of the girls. And when they did get back together, it was near the end of their last year in high school. Then Tsukasa told Manaka that she was leaving AGAIN right after graduation to go all the way to France to study pastry-making. So them getting back that 2nd time was entirely pointless. To me, that's just shitty writing because there was NO reason why they couldn't have gotten back together earlier. Manaka already knew that his indecisiveness causes heartbreak to not only him, but the other girls, so you'd think that once Tsukasa came back and settled down a bit, he'd apologize for being indecisive and ask to get back with her again.

This is one of the reason why I think Mizuki Kawashita can't write. Her characters are always too stupid to just say what they want to say and think it's better if they just bottle it up inside, or try to deny it. And with characters like these, she can make the manga go on and on and on and on for as long as she wants until she can't think of any more wacky adventures to put the characters and just decides to end it there.

some people (including me) followed this manga from 2002 and finished it in 2005 (or 2006? i forgot).
yeah~ i've been riding this "roller coaster" for more than 3 years.
the story was really interesting that made me felt like it dragged me through the high and down of the story.and without i realized it, i got used to that habit.and when i heard that this manga would come to an end, i expected something great as the closing for this great manga.
and guess what i got after 3 years high and down riding?
yeah...a lame and rushed ending. it seems like it was incomplete.
maybe because junpei didn't end up with aya?
i think this is not the real problem (even though personally i wanted aya to win)

the real problem is:

1. the mangaka should have made a process why junpei chose tsukasa.
4 years skipped and suddenly he choose her?
tsukasa is a good choice for him, indeed...
but the mangaka should have told us more about the process.how.

2. the fact that the main heroine (aya) and some important characters like satsuki only got a lame ending as their finishing, really made me disappointed. the mangaka can do better than this. they deserved a better ending. misuzu got her own dedicated ending, why didn't aya and satsuki too?
perhaps the mangaka wanted to tell us that the battle between aya, satsuki and tsukasa hasn't ended yet? i have no idea.

3. some characters is missing

really, a good manga like this needed a better ending as the closing. it was like the ending was a bit rushed and too sudden.
while some people still enjoying this manga, suddenly BAM! it was ended.

I thought it was made very clear that Manaka had only Tsukasa on his mind when she left for France and they only broke up because they wanted to follow his dreams and become someone in life worthy of Tsukasa. So it had to be Tsukasa when she came back because that was what they both decided and the process of why Manaka chose Tsukasa was already done gradually when they met up after their 1st break-up. I actually think Kawashita Mizuki made a fabulous job of showing the developing relationship of Manaka and Tsukasa after their 1st break up which eventually lead to them becoming a couple once again. However I do agree that to love a person for 4 years without even meeting each other is unrealistic but hey, this is fiction.

Why did Manaka break up with Nishino again at the end, and why did Nishino go to France after all. Here it is. Maturity. Love is not one life following after another. Love is the pain and difficulty of two lives joining together. Nishino needed to establish her own identity, apart from Manaka's girlfriend.Had Manaka asked her to stay, she could have continued in the pastry world there, it is true. I think, ultimately, if Manaka had asked her to stay, she would have, although not without trepidation. It was a decision that had no easy way out. Go to France, give up Manaka. Stay in Japan, give up a great opportunity.

Now as to Manaka's decision, it is because he finally matured as well. He understood that he was as yet not mature enough to make the right films. I think he also wanted a chance to change and become a man worthy of Nichino's love. Also, he wanted a chance to seperate from the confusion of being around Toujo and Satsuki. He wanted to stop leaning on Tsukasa whenever he felt down. In other words he wanted to become a man who is confident of himself and can make decisions on his own.

Maybe they wanted to test out the strength of their love and find out if it was genuine or not. So although they loved each other, and didnt want to break up a 2nd time, they took a risk and let go of each other in order to become a successful man and women by their own rights. So that when the time came for them to be together again they can be even more confident of themselves and their relationship.
