I happened to like The Lake House with Reeves and Bullock (in quite different roles from what they played in Speed), but I don't know how many guys have seen it, as it's a chick-flick romantic drama. He was laid back enough in that to show me that he can pull off Spike if he's got a good script and good direction.

i don;t like Keanu at all, he was good in the First Matrix and that one only, he's ridiculous..........no emotion, every moive i've seen him feels the same cause he has no emotion, but thats beside the point, i was scared when i heard of a live action Cowboy Bebop, one of my favorites of all time, just that fact scared me, but when i heard about Keanu, no way is all i thought, But hopefully he does a good job, cause he has a lot to live up to......... anyway found this picutre of Keanu as Spike

The only reason why I think this movie might not suck that much is because the original anime studio that produced Bebob said that they are going to be supervising the script, a lot and if they can't come up w/ a good script then the movie will be scrapped...so even if i don't think Keanu is the best guy to play Spike, at least the script might be decent...

I'm pretty excited about the live action adaptation of cowboy bebop. I think Reeves will do a good job and I'm looking forward to seeing the movie. Can't wait to see Faye in live action...:x

I think they need to get some of the guys involved in writing the anime in on it, I mean if the cowboy bebop movie wasnt anime but was live action if it was exactly like it is just with actors id be blown away, so all they need to do is get the same talent writing an anime or a movie isnt that different

I'm thinking i have a bit more optimism than most of you guys.
Unlike a lot of anime/manga out there bebop is something that should make a much smoother transition to film. (Small cast, no overly intricate plot or ridiculous powers, and it had a feeling of western influence right from the start).
If they get the scripting right, which certainly seems possible considering recent to film adaptions like Watchmen and Transformers, i think it could turn out to be a very enjoyable film.

As for having Reaves play Spike, true he plays most of his recent films with as much emotion as Rei Ayanami, but some of his earlier works were romances and show him in a different light. If he's a fan of the series he'll put in the effort to make sure his acting is as good as it can be (he's a professional actor for a reason). We should be glad we don't have the retards from the DB movie in this instead.

All in all i'd say i'm a bit more optimistic than you guys.

If they manage to get Yoko Kanno and the Seatbelts to do the majority of the soundtrack I will surrender my precious $10 to see it. Horrible or not. smile wink grin

Totally agreed. I was thinking yesterday that the music is half of what made the anime great, and it needs to be similar in the movie.

I third this. It's also not a coincidence that every episode title in the series has a music related theme. Without the seatbelts, kanno yoko, and whoever else was involved (such as the singer of The Real Folk Blues) cowboy bebop just isn't cowboy bebop.

totally agree the music is something that had a huge influence on bebop, I do hope they get her on board, something thats always puzzled me on comic adaptations and the like is why dont they get the people who wrote the series and so on to come on it and write the movie screenplay, I mean the talents all there all they need is to adapt it to some other genre and with anime its not that hard a transition.
