Wow, that ending...

This was one of my favorite series back in the day, but now reading how the light novels ended, I'm kinda glad they never finished up with the comic version. Would have been highly disappointed to get to the end only to have it be finished off this way.

I do feel for you, though in the case of this specific title I was spared if only because I'd already kinda learned my lesson on one or two of their other works and knew to never pick this one up (or anything else they may do ever again).

Their works always seemed to have good concepts/story lines/characters/art/themes.......and then they'd invariably tend to go to pot somewhere in the middle >_<

Im Dal Young is not known for well written endings. He is known for good starts, great artwork, meandering story lines that makes little sense, and rushed/crappy endings, if he ends them at all.

Ugh... The salt is coming back whenever I hear about this author.

You're reading from some reddit troll who probably hates the manga. I don't as a rule trust some random person from reddit.

The novel was written and finished years before the manga ever started. If the publishers didn't like the ending they would of never picked it up. Another reason I wouldn't trust someone who starts off with a false premise.

I personally don't see what wrong's with the ending with the brief summary provided. A tragic ending, can be one of the most powerful in a story if it was done right, and from his other works the author is very good at weaving these types of stories.

Except the tragic ending was so disconnected from what the plot for most of the series was it let readers down. It's just bad writing in this case and this mangaka has a bad habit of writing all his stories as follows:

Interesting world, compelling plot and struggle, great art, solid plot and consistent writing up to a point, then characterization starts to degrade, evil characters get away with stuff they normally wouldn't get away with if the main characters were in character, then there's a massive plot twist that seems entirely irrelevant to what the story was which changes so much it's no longer recognizable.

Freezing is another manga this guy wrote, and it's basically the same formula. And so is pretty much every story this guy has ever published. It's like he enjoys making an awesome story just so ha can intentionally disappoint or anger his readers.

It got so bad I, as well as thousands of others, remembered his name just so we knew not to get into any more of his manga. There were warnings written about the author in reviews on aggregate sites, often going "Same author of Freezing and Legend of Maian, skip this" with people responding "Wait, that guy? Shame, looked like a good manga at first."

This author's tarnished reputation was entirely deserved.

Thanks for the heads-up. I guess the upsides is that other aspiring authors can learn from this author what to do and what not to do. I really like the way this guy starts his stories and study his works. Good to know why most people don't like it.

I guess the issue is that LIM always wanted to draw tragic ends, but the way he steered the ship (the journey) isn't done in a way that is satisfactory and fulfilling for the readers. Hm, trial and error I guess.

Or the end was done this way because he got bored with the story, and wanted to rush it. Or he thinks that having a DEPRESSIVE END is epico, who knows.
