This fun little poll was suggested by jacob66. Do you enjoy reading about manipulation? Or does it make you queasy?

You can submit poll ideas here
http://www.mangaupdates.com/showtopic.php?tid=3903

Previous Poll Results:
Question: Most important quality of a scanlation
Choices:
Volume vs. magazine raws - votes: 98 (2.2%)
Regularity of releases - votes: 964 (21.3%)
Speed of release between raw and scanlation - votes: 321 (7.1%)
Accurate translation of the original language - votes: 1540 (34.1%)
Readability of the English - votes: 1070 (23.7%)
Redrawing of the images - votes: 37 (0.8%)
"Clean" images (lack of artifacts) - votes: 207 (4.6%)
Fonts - votes: 35 (0.8%)
Color (or grayscale) balance - votes: 23 (0.5%)
Image resolution - votes: 227 (5%)
There were 4522 total votes.
The poll ended: May 12th 2018

Even though accurate translation got the most votes, it's also the least likely quality that the average person would be able to evaluate

PS: Happy Mother's Day

I guess it depends on how it's done. Weren't there a few guys in Naruto that used puppets. I doubt anyone would mind something like that. Manipulation as in deceiving someone, it depends if I care about the character being deceived and how evil the reson for the manipulation is. In that case, it would piss me off or I wouldn't care at all.

Mind control, hypnosis and memory manipulation make me laugh most of the time, but it could piss me off if it was a really annoying development. Let's say MC has almost gotten the girl and the girl's memories are manipulated so that she either forgets the thinks she liked about the MC or forgets about him altogether. That would make me want to slap the author.

Drugs, well that sounds like a NTR development (kind of similar to hypnosis, mind control...) and that kind of development would either piss me off/hurt me, make me laugh for how idiotic it was, or simply wouldn't give a single fuck. Depends on the protagonist.

I'll chose, "Stupid and/or not realistic," so it's either annoying or quite funny.

All depends on how they use it. I'm a fan of Professor X , Jean Grey and Lelouch using there powers for good but what we see in hentai they NEVER use that power for good.

Just another tool in the toolbox. I am currently finishing Far Cry 5. Mind-controlling/altering drugs, hypnosis and imprinting are basically used as magic with Manchurian Candidates left and right. What a mess. MGS handles these tropes exceedingly well in 1998 until these became so overused that MGS 4 had to deconstruct all that insanity in 2008. Such a shame that Silent Hills was canned, as P.T. again showed how good Kojima can be with this trope if he keeps the scope manageable. Resident Evil 7 then somehow managed to feature the same theme with it´s main villain, so there is that.

The message here is that these types of plots need to be used sparingly and mostly importantly with equally believable world building. Code Trainwreck never stood a chance to be a good show in retrospect but it´s Professor X who i feel for here. The Onslaught rubbish in late 90s and the double punch of Morrison´s and then Whedon´s run (both great) pushed the character so far off the deep end in the mid 00s that he couldn´t be used as a hero anymore. Marvel straight out had to kill him, as the fallen icon crossed too many moral horizons to line up with the film/toon versions or even work as a team member. That´s the other tricky part. You can´t pretend as a writer that your protagonist is a traditional hero anymore once such plots really get going if the actions are initiated by him or her.

My modern cross media recommendations are: Bioshock, Spec Ops: The Line, FX´s Legion and Valiant´s semi-recent Harbinger reboot. DC´s Preacher (avoid the barely related tv show) had a darkly comedic take on the theme too.
Monster, basically all GitS anime and the Korean Oldboy film are my Asian examples on how to do it right.

You can spot a shit translation within a minute regardless of language skills. I recently downloaded Operation Red Sea, as China´s recent propaganda action film wave lead to surprisingly solid entries. I immediately hunted down a new sub track after seeing the first few lines of the attached subtitles. And who can forget the first JoJo Part 4 scanlation:

Sometimes is done well, in that case for me is a necessary evil if affects the plot in an interesting way, better if it's short. Mostly is extremely annoying.

It should stay in NTR hentai manga where it belongs and never leave. Tsukishima from Bleach was Very disturbing.

it's a steep & slippery slope
not being able to convince someone that your suggestion is advantageous to them seems like a loss
mind reading seems so much more palatable
because it's easy enough for 'your thoughts to betray you' without the benefit of god-like powers
Freudians and body language are fun

It is okay in the case of deleting a short time of memory, like in Men in Black or keeping the wizarding world from muggles in Harry Potter.

Most others fall probably under "Very disturbing".

I don't believe that mind control is possible.
even if erasing memory or strengthening someone's desire (using drugs) is possible, I don't believe that making people change their feeling or memory manipulation are possible.

if it were possible, then it would be very disturbing.
