Preferably with the main character, but minor characters work too

Ideally, I'm looking for manga similar to Golden Days or Koori no Mamono no Monogatari, where the gay couple does end up together, but the manga itself doesn't entirely revolve around their romance.

And actually, by "long running," I mean more than 3 volumes for BL and 5 volumes for GL (yeah I know, how will I ever finish them /s). I've read more 3-5 volume series for GL than BL, so I'm looking for anything above that. That being said, they were hardly ever explicitly stated to be going out either... OK, new requisite for the GL, they need to actually be going out. None of that subtext bullshit

M-m-more than 3 vol for BL and 5 for GL!? I’m usually ecstatic to find a good BL/GL series longer than 1 vol, lol! That said, here are some long(ish) series (I hope you’re okay with explicit scenes):

BL
Canis - 5 Volumes, ongoing
10 Dance - 5 Volumes, ongoing
Acid Town - 6 Volumes, ongoing
Saezuru Tori wa Habatakanai - 6 Volumes, ongoing
Mainichi Seiten - 10 Volumes, complete
Honto Yajuu - 11 Volumes, ongoing
Komahoshi - 26 Volumes, complete

GL
Yagate Kimi ni Naru - 6 Volumes, ongoing
Ohana Holoholo - 6 Volumes, complete
Aoi Hana - 8 Volumes, complete
Manga no Tsukurikata - 8 Volumes, complete
Ano Ko ni Kiss to Shirayuri wo - 9 Volumes, ongoing
Sasamekikoto - 9 Volumes, complete

BL and GL
Musume no Iede - 6 Volumes, complete

I’ve not included any, but there are many long-running BL/GL manhwa and webtoon series out there.

I’d be lying if I said none of these series revolve around romance, but I tried to pick out series that have other plotlines as well as romance. I hope these will last you a while (:

Yeah, there are way more long running webtoons. I'm looking for manga, manhua, or manhwa though, to see how many there are. Thanks for your suggestions

I think it just squeaks by your length requirement, but Asagao to Kase-san. is five volumes and still ongoing. Though it also is primarily about their romance, so I guess YMMV.

Otherwise, hm... Octave is the only GL I can think of that hasn't been mentioned yet and fits your length requirement. (It's complete at six volumes.)

As for BL...

Gengetsurou Kitan is apparently five volumes and ongoing. It's kind of a series of ghost/detective stories about a male geisha and his most frequent patron, the inheritor of a miso shop. I would also definitely recommend the rest of Ima Ichiko's body of work if you haven't read them already.

A Night of a Thousand Dreams is a retelling of 1001 Nights with Scheherazade as a man instead of a woman. It consists of a lot of stories within stories It's complete at 11 volumes.

Kami-sama no Ekohiiki is complete at five volumes. It starts off as a genderbender, but ends up in a surprising place. Predominantly romance.

And seeing as you're reading What Did You Eat Yesterday?, her Antique Bakery might also interest you.

Yuureitou might be worth a read as well. It's a gory horror about a ghost tower featuring a trans protagonist. In the interest of not spoiling it, I'll just say that it ended far better than I expected it would.

These are popular, so maybe you have read it. But, let me just post this.

1. Yuuutsu Na Asa 8 volumes, includes politic
2. Haru wo Daiteita 14 volumes also a lot of djs by the mangaka, I believe it's also centered in their life as an actor, also reversed couples
3. Given 4 volumes ~ the last time I read it it doesn't focused only in the main couple but also the support characters and also the band they are making

I don't really read it, but I know they are long volumes

5. Ten Count 6 volumes
6. Mousou Elektel 4 volumes

Then a series like Kuroneko Kareshi Series, and Bi something series (Bi no Isu, Bi no Kyoujin, and I think there's a new one)

also the one i forgot the title but its too good to be left out
Spoiler (mouse over to view)
there is also one shounen ai that just reached the beginning of the third volume (14 or 16 ch) the last time I read it which I forgot the title (maybe anyone knows), I think it will be a long running too, but it's focusing on coming out and. how everyone helped this teen on the process of coming out (bcs the guy is almost bullied when somebody took his picture when another gay character kissed him--and at some point one of his girl friend pretend to date him). the couple isn't even together yet and one of the pair still have a girlfriend at the beginning. but its really good.

then I found this link :

* from 2008 thread: Yaoi with long story or shounen-ai

I love my uke to be manlier than his seme
Only compromising when the story is good or the uke is voiced by OnoYu, Kuma-chan, TaruTaru, Okitsun and or Nontan in the drama cd.

I haven't read Shimanami Tasogare (4 volumes) yet because I'm waiting on the published version but I've heard it has one of the most diverse casts of any manga including gay, bi, nonbinary, trans, and ace characters (and maybe more? This all based off reviews I've seen).

Himegoto - Juukyuusai no Seifuku (8 volumes)
This is a weird one. It takes a lot of unexpected twists and turns and makes you like/hate characters you didn't think you were going to like/hate in the beginning. The 3 MCs definitely have issues with communication and telling lies/keeping secrets. Often you'll want to yell at your screen because it can get really frustrating. I think this manga would be either an immediate hit or miss depending on the person, I personally stayed up until 6am to finish reading it, the plot really does draw you in!

Try out this manga called: FAKE. It is old but really well drawn. (ps. There is a recent FAKE manga continuation but personally it was awful because the style changes and not for the better. Personally.)

FAKE

BL.

Meet Ryo and Dee, two New York City cops with an attraction for action, and for each other! When Ryo, a soft spoken officer, joins the NYPD's 27th precinct, he's soon partnered up with Dee's a cocky, confident cop with attitude to spare.
