The schedule. Not a great selection overall but 2,75 shows are locked in for me. I won´t bother seeing the butchered Tokyo Ghoul:re conclude but I will look up how the team handles the already disjointed ending of the manga. It will be a doozy! Ace Attorney S02 and Hinomaru Sumo may also be ok shows, I guess. Wait, Gonzo still exists? Huh.

Golden Kamuy I hope for slower pacing and way better/on model animation this time but we are getting a near 1 to 1 adaptation with great VAs regardless. That´s more than many must-read Seinen get...

JoJo no Kimyou na Bouken: Ougon no Kaze I got to read exceptionally bad JoJo scanlations a decade ago and no part was more butchered than this one. The recent scanlation do-overs made me change my tune on part 5 and I now crown it as 3rd best (after 4 and of course 7). The already released pilot adapted about 100 pages but the pacing didn´t feel off due to this part mostly consisting of action and later chase scenes. The animation was on point too. So far so good.

Star Wars Resistance The trailers were slightly bland but the last 2 SW shows were good to great once they got going. Polygon Pictures clearly got an actual budget to play with and the legendary Dave Filoni created the series, so I will stick out the season no matter what. I lastly overall like what Disney did with SW and this is a direct prequel to EP. 7. Oscar Isaac and Adam Driver even have guest roles.

Yu Yu Hakusho is getting an anniversary special and Persona 5 concludes though a special or something. Stick to the game. On to films.
I hope that Mobile Suit Gundam NT will be better than it´s direct prequel Unicorn. Everyone's favorite religious cult Happy Science is lastly releasing their 8th movie. I would ironically welcome it but it´s seemingly a sequel to the unwatchable last one while being part of a trilogy. Arigato Space Buddha?

The Eureka Seven film trilogy just repurposes the original show with new voice acting to change the plot. The first film apparently had about 10 min of original footage. No one cared for AO but the series was in trouble when the bizarre first film retelling came out.

The season was a tedious slog overall but 3 shows still emerged from the wreckage. First the losers bracket. SSSS.Gridman had a fine pilot but the 2nd ep. turned into the usual Trigger cliche parade. A shame. Zombie Land Saga on the other hand would be recommendable if the episodes capped off at 10 minutes as the material is stretched too thin as is.

Golden Kamuy still looks sub-par and the theoretically hilarious Psycho parody of ep.1 was thus way more effective in the original still images. The story itself is translated fine enough though and that´s what counts. 7,5/10

JoJo no Kimyou na Bouken: Ougon no Kaze I have nothing more to say about the accurately adapted material itself and only want to see my boi Mista in action. David Production and the Jo-father were just meant to be. The OP is an absolute highlight too and very reminiscent of the Monster OP, as most of the overall plot is hidden within! Very strong work by some of the Eva staff. The funky END sequence needs stronger visuals on the other hand. 8,5/10 Anime of the year? Maybe.

Star Wars Resistance is very reminiscent of S01 of Rebels. The constant goofs and jokes are too broad to be funny and an overall story has still to emerge but the groundwork is absolutely there. The show just feels like Star Wars and that's enough for now. Resistance is also the best looking and animated TV anime of the year by a mile due to dat sweet sweet Disney money. 7,5/10

I have an original anime due to Star Wars of all things on my plate this season. A surprise, to be sure, but a welcome one.

All my ongoing anime are done. Castlevania, DuckTales, Simpsons, South Park, Teen Titans Go and Voltron remain. Septembers' The Dragon Prince S01 was also really good.

The film version of Constantine - City of Demons was one of the best toon/comic films in years and I lastly wonder if the presence of the "official" Japanse Spider-girl and her mech will factor into the marketing of Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse in Japan. She is no Leopardon but not even the Ready Player One film bothered to pay that Toei license.

I can't tell if the selection in going down or if it's just cause my taste have changed but the anime seasons have been getting really uninteresting? It's probably just me...

For a different perspective on this season's offerings, here's my initial take on the shows I'm giving a shot.

Goblin Slayer - Certainly stirred up some controversy, but can the show stir up an interesting plot? Likely dropping this if episode 3 doesn't show promise for the rest of the cour.

Seishun Buta Yarou wa Bunny Girl Senpai no Yume wo Minai - What a mouthful of a title... The length of the name and the atmosphere (you'll understand once you watch it) both bear resemblance to Oregairu (Yahari Ore no Seishun Love Comedy wa Machigatteiru.). I'm on board for episode 4, but haven't arrived at a verdict yet. The "three episode rule" doesn't apply for me here. The first three were interesting enough (8/10), but I'm questioning whether the remaining 10 episodes will be up to par. I haven't seen anything from CloverWorks (studio) until now, but the quality so far has been perfectly acceptable for a very new studio.

Tensei shitara Slime Datta Ken - Isekai this, isekai that... Hopefully this will separate itself somewhat from the onslaught of mediocre isekai series. My hopes aren't too high 3 episodes in, but I'll let more of the 2-cour air before I decide whether to drop it or not. The manga is fairly well-regarded, but the studio (8bit) not so much. (The quality has been acceptable thus far.)

Toaru Majutsu no Index III - Seven. Seven years since season 2 began airing. Same studio, same expectations (7 or 8/10). 2-cour.

Yagate Kimi ni Naru - I haven't actually watched an episode yet. I'm just curious whether this will be worse than Citrus. Is a good shoujo ai series too much to ask for? Yuru Yuri tops the genre--because it's funny, not because there's any real romance.

Yuu☆Yuu☆Hakusho Specials - For nostalgia's sake. Fun fact: Studio Pierrot made the first episode of the original run and are making these two specials, 26 years later.
