The schedule. Doukyonin wa Hiza, Tokidoki, Atama no Ue. is ok and Mob Psycho 100 II has nice visuals. On to the meager leftovers that show some promise.

Boogiepop wa Warawanai I rewatched the short adaptation that a very different Madhouse did in the late 90s about a year ago and went over the prequel manga again. The disjointed story didn´t hold up but the no-budget moody visuals mostly did. The average source LNs, bright digital animation and the rather bland Madhouse of today don´t leave me excited but a decent one-off episode might come out of this.

Dororo The Tezuka manga and it´s varied adaptation all had their flaws but the ideas behind them are engaging. MAPPA, the heirs to Madhouse, and Kazuhiro Furuhashi could make them work beautifully. He directed Kenshin, the 90s HxH (the better one), Real Drive and Neo Wokio after all.

The Lupin III: Goodbye Partner special looks bland and Golden Kamuy receives a 2nd OVA.
Code Geass is getting a cinematic conclusion at long last. I´ll fast forward through it once the home release comes out to exercise the franchise out of my life for good. The Osomatsu-san movie, on the other hand, seems interesting.

The early year is a dumping ground for most forms of media, outside of modern games. The anime industry again follows suit but the one highlight at least stands out. The season´s overall low quality is another issue entirely but the spring seasons will thankfully prove a turnaround.

Boogiepop wa Warawanai My knowledge of what came before is the only reason I could follow the 2 opening eps. Ep.2, for example, kind of adapts the material covered in the first manga but why was the setting “updated” to the present day? Ep. 3 somewhat completes the story from ep. 2. The abysmal animation, the lack of characterization and the crazy rushed plot made it a waste of my time though. Meaning that the anime has the same problems the Tokyo Ghoul “adaptations” had. Even the atmosphere has totally evaporated by now. I am done. The decision to go with 18 episodes is lastly kind of interesting. 4/10.

Dororo Director Kazuhiro Furuhashi still got it. The pacing isn´t perfect, the cutaways during the violence can be weird (this is Shounen after all) and Hyakkimaru´s creepy puppet face could have stayed longer but the team obviously delivered. The adaptation is already somewhat loose, as is tradition with Tezuka productions. 24 eps. is twice what I expected but i won´t complain if the quality keeps up. The manga´s biggest flaw is the non-ending. A new 3rd act is thus my biggest wish down the line. 8/10

JoJo Vento Aureo and Star Wars Resistance (the story just picked up) go on for me.
So are Steven Universe, The Simpsons, Teen Titans Go and Young Justice: Outsiders.

The FFXV Ardyn anime short is about the come out and Reign of the Supermen was better than part 1, even if the story made less sense. Seeing the black clad long haired Superman, for once, is also its own reward. My kind of fan service.
