jacob66 suggested this fun little poll about immortality. What do you think? Blessing or curse? Would you take the gift?

You can submit poll ideas here
http://www.mangaupdates.com/showtopic.php?tid=3903

Previous Poll Results:
Question: Using an anime fansub's subtitles to translate the manga adaptation (or vice versa) is...
Choices:
Kinda lazy, but it's efficient - votes: 982 (32.6%)
Unacceptable, because you're copying someone else's translation - votes: 842 (28%)
Perfectly acceptable, as long as it's accurate - votes: 1184 (39.4%)
There were 3008 total votes.
The poll ended: April 6th 2019

One of our most even polls in a while!

I've always liked this kind of "What if..." poll! Anyway, the choice for this one was fairly easy, surprisingly enough: Yes, as long as I can choose to die if I'm tired of living. Though I did vacillate between that and "I don't want to live forever."

I remember doing a similar poll in the recent enough past. Yes, as long as I can choose to die if I'm tired of living. That´s the same choice regular humans have too, just with "only" 70 something years on the table and regular aging. It would be nice if my method of immediate death wasn´t plain old sunlight but it can´t be jumping into a volcano hard either and aging needs to stop immediately upon receiving immortality.

PS: I hope that The Masquerade – Bloodlines 2 works out.

Every other option is "Yes as long as it benefits me"

Yeah...that's cheating. Plus removing the limits/downsides on life results in it losing ALL the fun.

This poll is so horribly written. Options 3 and 4 are attached strings, so what's the point in #2? Why not just say "Not if I'm a vampire?" That's why it has the lowest response. Options 3 and 4 also both include physical and mental deterioration. So, at best, you have to add them together, but missed an opportunity to see where the community differs.

Yes! No matter what!

I want to outlive the heat death of the universe, even once nothing else exists. I don't care what kind of torture that will bring, all I need is a conscious mind. Death is the only thing I cannot--will not--ever accept (even though I acknowledge that *rationally* it is inevitable).

Yeah this poll could've been written so much better. But my question is was the last poll never really decided? Guess that topic is just a hard to categorize.

Well, I've always thought that life would make sense only if it were endless, so for me it's a big fat yes (as long as I can choose to die if I'm tired of living).

( Yes, as long as I can choose to die if I'm tired of living ) Is the obvious best choice in my opinion. I mean of course, no one wants the curse one or the endless aging or suffering. And the (Yes no matter what) choice means all of this can happen. Also you can of course get tired of( an immortal partner) so that doesn't help. Plus towards the end of life, of course most would want to live longer then the average life span so the (No, i just dont want to live forever) would probably be different when most people are reaching the end or somehow know they are gonna have an early death.
The Yes, as long as I can choose to die if I'm tired of living is best cause its pretty much controlled immortality. Where you can live a long ass life and choose when to die when you're satisfied. It's not like the immortality where you really can't die and just suffer forever. The only great immortality is one where you can still die in some way kind of like Elves (but with a mild form of regeneration too lol) that way you have an out when its too much. Also there are many movies, shows, manga and anime that tell you enough of the downsides of imortality without a way to die. The "Fire Punch" Manga being one of the best examples of that.

Looking at the results, more people are afraid of old age than of being endlessly tortured. Huh. 🙂

Its funny how I quickly answered No, I just don't want to live forever. However, I believe in the afterlife (i.e. immortality). It gave me a real minute of introspection. In one sense, I want to live (or I believe I will live), but another part of me is like, "Sheesh, life is too difficult! Why should I extend it?!"

Yeah this poll is unfairly easy for those of you without any sense of realism. Obviously you're fine with death if you believe in a magical sky fairy that'll take care of your "soul" afterwards.

THAT ISN'T HOW IT WORKS!!!

Every single religion in the world, going as far back as recorded history, believes in an afterlife in some way, shape, or form. However, there's only one that I know of where you have the followers endlessly lining up to commit suicide, and it's because of the promise of a harem, not a god taking care of them. Even then, every other religion that I've heard of frowns upon the idea of committing suicide (With the exception of the Japanese); and/or (And, you should pay attention to this part) consider it blasphemous to believe in "God", or whatever, ONLY so that you won't be sent to "Hell" (What do you think the book of Job is about?).

It is not that I am fine with death. Its that the world is a depressing mess (that gives me so many problems and affects so many people that I care about in horrible ways). For this reason, I don't want to live longer on this Earth, more than I have to.

I believe that I have a preordained time on Earth, and some type of purpose. When I fulfill my purpose, I will go to the afterlife. I don't want to live forever on Earth, but that does not mean, I don't want to live. In a sense all that I am saying is: If given immortality, I would throw it away, if I had to do it here.
