I neglected this question... I think it largely has to do with the intent of the manga. Does it intend to inform? IS attempts to bring to light a medical condition... Hotman seems to sometimes break narrative to directly address the reader in promoting healthy living... Futari Ecchi is like a narrated sex manual... Team Medical Dragon exposes issues within the Japanese medical system. All have a distinct agenda outside of just telling a story.

I second The Embalmer..It's a very good-detailed manga about Embalming, human psychology and society.

I also recommend Confidential confessions (About Japanese society) and other works by Momochi Reiko

also try reading Ikigami, [m]E.S[/m], Homunculus and Battle Royale if you're interested in human psychology.

Other educational mangas related to human psychology is Life, although personally, I hate that manga.

Also, I second I.S., it's about Intersexuality. (people with both sex)

So basically what you're saying is something that has an agenda besides just the storyline.
Then any clear suggestions on how to go around filtering manga that have already been added and future manga that will? Since I haven't read any so far except Jinja no Susume which really does teach you things about life in a shrine and their organization etc., I am making a call to people who have read the manga on the list so far to come and leave a comment telling me whether it should be here or not. But first they need clear concise guidelines to follow. Please help me decide and if you feel I'm missing something tell me pls!

What other rules should we have? I'd like lots of input on this since without this we can't really do anything here as it would be like the blind walking around in the dark.

A lot of Tezuka Osamu's works are riddled with scientific and medical procedures, lore and terms, since he studied medicine at university. Examples include Black Jack and Midnight.

Ping Pong also taught me a lot about the sport of table tennis.

The Ice Wanderer and other stories contains a short story based on one of Jack London's (famous American author) experiences while out hunting in the mountains.

Keimusho no Naka is an autobiographical account of the author's time spent in prison, and gives insight into the life of a prison inmate in Japan.

I have yet to read it, but

Saibanchou! is about a guy who skips work to attend criminal trials, he learns about the legal process and such. It's still ongoing, but I don't think it's translated anywhere.

And I also see that Naisho no Tsubomi isn't on there. That actually won the Shogakukan Children's manga award last year. It's about a fifth grader who's going through puberty, dealing with mother's pregnancy, etc. Really cute art, too.

Kare wa Tomodachi
This is a typical shoujo however if you read it from beginning to middleish there is 1 phrases that really makes you think and helps you to consider things from other perspective. Sometimes we are just really quick to judge like in a shoujo manga there could be a really annoying antagonist and we'd immediately hate him/her. This manga just really stuck with me just because of that one sentence and taught me things.... I'm not gonna say what it is you read and find out
