I tried to speak dutch. I was able to reply for the first time to someone in dutch. well they all laughed at me because I have a horrible french accent but they understood me
I am really happy
I've heard Dutch is quite difficult to learn for non-native speakers; grammar aside, many non-native speakers struggle with the sound system.
"ui", "ijs", and "grachtengordel" are horror words for most non-native speakers since they contain sounds not found in most other languages (if I recall correctly, "ui" and "ij" don't occur in any language but Dutch (or Flemish)).
Can you hear the difference between "hout", "hoed", and "huid" yet?
it's true that there are some really strange sounds, and there are a lot of hard and harsh sounds that I can't really pronounce. Luckily for me I am currently living in the Limburg region which makes it easier to understand the people around me since I also speak german.(their dialect is kind a funny)
well I guess I still have a long way to go but I have the motivation to do it
