Why have most scanlation groups moved to Discord?

Until recently I've been out of the loop with the scanlation community for roughly two years and didn't find discussions leading to this on MU so I decided to ask. IRC was definitely more used in the manga community 10+ years ago, but many continued to use it for both chatting and releases. I'm assuming some of the popular groups moved first and the rest followed (because trends), but even groups releasing yaoi and yuri content have moved to Discord (and many of them never had an IRC channel to begin with, especially yaoi-focused). What's the appeal?

Some parts marketing, slab of paint on ui. File sharing that allows for easier collab(text-only vs video/calling/screensharing)

Because Discord is more better than IRC for texting.

Basically this, and "Well, everyone uses it, so it must be good".

Actually, it is not like that. As far as I know you should have a vnc/znc to see old messages that posted on specific channel in IRC. Discord does not need any plugin or something like that to see old messages on specific channel.

This reasoning I can understand since not everyone uses a BNC which allows you to see a set number of old messages while you were gone. But as far as security goes, I don't see it better than IRC...

I remember when websites like MangaFox were poping up and suddenly online readers became THE thing. They're still around because the community fired back by creating their own (first Batoto, now Mangadex), but it seems like the influx of multiple readers like MF lessened (correct me if I'm wrong).

IRC is and always was terrible and most donĀ“t know how to use it. Discord is everywhere. Low barriers of entry are the best.

IRC is usually shared mouth to mouth back then, but discord is pretty much the opposite of it, and discord have so much advantage than IRC....

I don't know how IRC works but I guess it's because Discord is more convenient. Like they have a mobile and pc app while IRC only available on a website cmiiw.
So I think that's what makes people nowadays choose Discord over IRC.

I didn't really use IRC when younger since I didn't understand how it was used and was too scared to mess up lmao so, I can't really speak about it

However, I know some scanlation groups use Discord to keep a better track of who they release their chapters to; one of the scanlation servers I'm at had up fill a google docs form and they later sent us the last chapter of the manga with big watermarks on some pages. I know not all of the groups do this, but I think it's a valid way to have them be sure their scanlations won't end in sites like mangago, which profit off ads.

Personally I find discord in general very nice and useful, not only bc its popular right now but it offers nice things for chatting.
