Yaoi is the only option for works that have a male same sex couple as the lead or the focus. But Yaoi is a genre specifically for women written by women. There needs to be a genre option for Gei-komi the japanese genre for when its written for men. There are way more works written for women then those written for men and it makes it almost impossible for men to actually find works.

I suggest Gei-komi over Bara since bara since bara was used as essentially Pansy in Japan and artists tend to prefer Gei-Komi over Bara.

I totally agree with you.

Although I do say I think bara would be the more appropriate term for an English site just because English readers like myself are more familiar with the term bara, and when searching online it’s usually categorized as bara.

We did change the term queer from a negative to a positive. Maybe this can become an example of that as well?

I personally use Bara as well and have used it for awhile I didn't even know it was an insult until recently. The issue with Bara is that unlike Queer which just meant odd/weird/not the norm but wasn't originally an insult. I personally wouldnt be offended by Bara and understand where you are coming from. The issue is Bara is a japanese word meaning rose but the way its used to refer to men who like the same sex is pansy. I wouldn't support somewhere like japan labeling male same sex works pansies just because some japanese users thought that it was an actual term for Gei-komi. They already tried taking the term back they had a magazine and everything but it fell out then Bara was used on message boards apparently as a negative term to group gays and other people took the term thinking it meant gay men. Dont get me wrong pansy is a weak insult anyway I think though we should look towards the future though and Geikomi is the actual term used and doesn't have to mean porn where as Bara is mainly associated with porn. I personally dont like Geikomi cause it takes its root from Gay and doesnt include bisexuals but thats neither here nor there.

Honestly something Like Gei-komi/Bara but not Yaoi it is not a genre for men at all nor does it represent material of same sex interest. Yaoi is a genre meant for women to Fetishize men.
