I like Kaname because I love vampires ^^

The more I like Kaname, the more I hate Yuuki (or Yuki). In the end, I dropped Vampire Knights .___.

For me, I don't remember particular names of worst characters, because I always drop the series if I don't like it.

Well, I don't like main character from Fruit Basket, the girl who live with Kyou and some boys.

Hachiko from Nana....is the WORST in my book.... actually, no never mind..the main girl from Fruits Basket she's actually the worst, then Nana.... then theres uhh, that main girl from Bokura ga Ita....ummm then, hmm....hell theres alot of em'.....any weak minded main shoujo character sux, and theres tons of them...but so far i'd say those 3 are the worst i've come across, but especially Hachi because she's atleast old enough to know better......if you're older then me, then theres no reason to be such an annoying human being

First place goes to Zero Kiryuu from Vampire Knight. Have you ever seen anybody with a bigger attitude and will always be using his excuse for a sad past for "excuses". If you compare that to Kaname, Kaname is the better person who doesn't complain about his past when he's been through so much more than Zero and doesn't talk about it constantly like Zero does. I mean c'mon. Give me a break already. Also the fact that he points a gun at EVERYBODY! Even Yuuki. Seriously. Who would like a guy as a boyfriend or even a friend like that? He needs a personality check.

Then comes Tohru Honda from Fruitsbasket.I have some tolerance for weak-minded girls because I read shoujo and they come flying to me everywhere but her stupidity was flying everywhere. Yuki or Kyou may think of it as cute but it's more like annoying.

I totally AGREE. I got really pissed off and annoyed with Hachi's airheaded-ness that I stopped reading it. Grrrr. And they call it "Josei"! Bah

I think I may read the last chapter when it comes soon. Just to see whether she's got herself knocked up by some other jerk.

@ Monstar Maalik
Finally. Somebody who thinks the same as me. I watched the anime and hated her from the first minute I saw her but I kept on going because the other characters were hilarious. If she wasn't in it and the animation team designed the characters better, the series would be perfect. But since I watched the anime and hated her, I gave up on the manga before even touching it. >.>

Also why the hell is everyone hating the girls?

Because we expect the boys to be cardboard cut outs who are just there for eye-candy? He's also usually "pretty perfect in every way" and the female character helps him fix that one thing wrong, so there's usually a stab at development on his part, so he's usually not a completely horrible character. Really though, you want the guy hate, go to the "worst couples" thread, you'll find lots of it there, 'cause that's when the annoyance creeps up.

In most shoujos, the girl's the lead, and therefore expected to carry the entire series. As such, her flaws become blatantly obvious pretty fast and it's easier to get annoyed with her. The male lead having paper thin characterization often isn't such a problem 'cause he's just there to be paired off (except in the few series where he's a substantial character/really the other lead) and he's usually fleshed out enough that he works well enough in that role.

Re Hachi:
She annoys me, but I think her characterization/development is so well done that she feels like somebody I can meet on the street so I can't consider her a lousy character. She just feels too real, if totally idiotic.

Trying to get back on topic:
I think the worst shoujo character I've seen is Princess Ai, but that may just be 'cause the manga was so terrible. Seriously, no development what-so-ever. It was like "oh, true love dies"->"new true love"->"he dies"->"next". Did not care about her, her love interest, the plot, anything 'cause the character was just so unappealing. She had no characterization, undeveloped backstory, and dull personality.,

Riight, I must have missed the memo for that. What's that cutoff age again? I didn't realize that we weren't allowed to make mistakes as we got older. Come back to me when you're 21 and have reached that level of perfection because I would love to know your secret. And Hachi is still very young, you know relative to the average lifespan of a human being and not to the age of a teen (which is what I'm assuming you are).

It's not technically Josei, it's actually classified as Shoujo. I can see why people would mistakenly think so, but because it's shoujo, I think it was a pretty practical move on Ai Yazawa's part to create a character that she felt younger readers could relate to.

Don't worry, I think it's safe to say that the other child is safely Takumi's. He fits the jerk part, but unfortunately not the "other" qualification that you were hoping for.

Really? And how so? How does Hachi hold back the story? The manga is called NANA and clearly she's one of the titular characters. Obviously the story is supposed to revolve around her (and the other Nana). It's about her life experience, her growth, and maturity over the span of so many years. What does Takumi mean to the story without Hachi? Who is Nobu, other than a bandmate, without Hachi? Everyone else aside from the Nanas are secondary, and they gain more relevance in the story from their connections and their interactions with BOTH of them.

All guys in Shinjo Mayu mangas and I guess all spineless girls in shoujo mangas which must be 97% of shoujo heroines.

I agree although hachi can be a little annoying at times, at least she has some depth, you can actually see yourself in her at times, I know I have!
I have no real reason to hate her, shes made her mistakes and she tried her hardest to admit and move on from them that to me shows real courage and I admire that, to say shes holding the story back is wayyy off with out her their'd be pretty much no romance drama and she added the lightness at the beginning of the manga and even the darker aspects later on. I really hate the idea shes made people turn away from nana because I think that with out her nana would definitely not be the manga it is today it would be pretty much like all the other shoujo mangas. I'm glad shes not perfect and her faults are laid out for all to see. Shes exactly what a woman should be, shes human, she makes mistakes, and she learns from them. And don't ever call her a slag, because shes not! I know none of you did but I've had enough of people calling her that, she didn't cheat on nobu she and takumi had finished, (in her mind at least).
On to tohru honda I really liked her I mean jesus she lost her mother and best friend and could still smile? that to me is really very admirable and I respect her she totally deserved to be happy!

I cant stand any shoujo character that thinks they have to solve problems ie. some guy targeting them) without the help of there boyfriend or informing him because they don't want him to worry (Annoying and hackneed)

The stupid/weak girls who can't seem to defend themselves. When a girl says no, she'd better mean it. Not like the main chick from Love Monster I got so ticked off at her after 4 chapters. Dropped and NEVER picking up again. Arg, she just annoys me! :<>

And I hate the pretty boys who take advantage of those weak girls, again, like the main guy from Love Monster Maybe I just really hated that series, but I've seen the same type in other manga!!

Hell, I might have actually hated First Girl in the beginning for the same reasons. But I've stuck with that one, and am liking it more now. smile

Kaname has not had a worst past than Zero, maybe a fraction of it, but not as bad. Zero has had s**tty past, he's probably like the most pitiful character that I've ever come across in a manga. So yeah, Zero has gone through worst things than Kaname

This is probably the first time I've encountered people who've stopped reading NANA because of Hachi. Even if she was annoying, there's a whole slew of other interesting characters that are worth reading for. If you don't like Hachi, then you have Nana, who is almost the complete opposite. Heck, I'm not a big Takumi fan, but he certainly keeps things interesting.

I honestly applaud Ai Yazawa for giving us this faulty Hachi. Not many mangakas would be as bold as to center a whole new series revolving around a seemingly promiscuous girl. In fact, I have yet to find or read one single other popular shoujo that didn't have some version of a pure as vanilla innocent heroine.

I totally agree. I started this because of its popularity, but one chapter into it, I knew what I was in for. Don't get me wrong, if written right, some of the spineless heroines can be likeable for me. But most of the time, they just get downright annoying. The nice girls can be nice to a ridiculous fault, and the mangakas who attempt to make their female leads stronger sometimes go overboard and the girl comes off as stubbornly stupid and dense sometimes. I hate to do use this as an example, but the best one I can think of is Kyoko (the stubbornly dense part, not stupid).

Skip Beat! is also unique because of Kyoko, a girl who doesn't cry when her heart gets broken, and that's one aspect I admired of her. However, 100+ chapters into this story and still she's as clueless as a newborn babe about Ren's feelings towards her. I'm not saying she should outright realize it yet, but sheesh, a slight inkling wouldn't be too far fetched.

EDIT: Stupid me, I hit submit instead of preview.
