Please put your personal preference (the closest choice to it) for when you are reading scanlations. I want to get an idea if I want to be releasing a project of my own by scanning at 300dpi and releasing at 1200px or 2000px or by scanning it in at 600dpi and shrink it back down to 3600px...

I'll just say that based on scanlator experience, the standard accepted height is 1200px with a variable 800px width. (72 dpi)

Of course, there are smaller and larger, depending on the raw source. But, smaller is less quality and larger is bigger file sizes. I say just stick to the standard and you'll be just fine.

300dpi will give you a large file, for HQ its the best. I using 150dpi (scanning at 300 and shrink to 150dpi) and getting good results (not the best of course) for MQ.

You don't really need that much dpi. Unless are you planning to print out scanlations?...

1200 is the usual for height.

Since the file size is of no importance for me I wouldn't mind extra quality releases of 1280 width to perfectly fit my laptop.

I think you meant that for scanning. For scanning mangas, the best result would be from scanning in 300 dpi for grayscale and 600dpi for colored ones. As for reading, my preferred height would be 1100 to 1200. I don't really like it when the whole thing takes up the width of my monitor since I usually have other things open as well. Scanlations with a height of 1000 or width of 700 or less makes it hard to read the small texts and, for me, that wouldn't count as a HQ. And file size shouldn't concern me but it's kinda ridiculous to download a single chapter that is as big as a whole volume (30-60mb). Bigger file size doesn't mean HQ, for me.

1100 for me. My screen is only 1024x768, so anything bigger tends to annoy me.

I say scan it in at 300dpi some people I know will go to 600 but I think that is only needed for colour pages.

As for final file size the average is height is 1200px but in my honest opinion the best is 1400px. More size gives more detail and it's so much more enjoyable to get those details and a sharper, cleaner, cleared higher quality image. It can however get to a point where it's a bit too much I've read one or two chapters 1600px and that's the biggest I would go to.

I voted 1600 because my preferred 1500 wasn't listed. I was a fan of 1200 for a long time, but as computers (and due to that, resolutions) advance, the demand for bigger pages increases. On my 1280x1024 desktop (which isn't even considered big nowadays) 1200 just seems too small to read conveniently.

Everything we scan is 600dpi for ease of edits, scaled down to 1200px in the final release. Honestly, for some authors that have tiny little text bubbles everywhere, 1200px isn't enough to even read the text let alone read it easily, so I'm considering increasing our standard to 1300 or more depending on the project.

From a reading perspective, it don't matter none to me. 1200 fits my crappy little monitor perfectly, but I may like bigger scans when I upgrade to something a little less 5 years old (only one more week!).

1200 px for me. I can't stand having humongous files to read and download, it's troublesome to scroll so much laugh
