This week's poll was suggested by Aleph0. You know how some scanlation groups like to save up a bunch of releases for anniversaries or Christmas (or some other random day)? Do you like those mass release days? Or would you rather they release when they're done working on the chapter?

Previous Poll Results:
Question: The author of your favorite ongoing series only has a few more months to live. How do you want them to handle the series?
Choices:
Stick to the original release schedule even though it will probably be unfinished - votes: 446 (12.8%)
Have them try and rush an ending - votes: 482 (13.8%)
Have the author stop right there and enjoy the rest of their life - votes: 2557 (73.4%)
There were 3485 total votes.
The poll ended: April 3rd 2021

I personally don't think George R. R. Martin will finish A Song of Ice and Fire before kicking the bucket. At least Brandon Sanderson has a good chance of finishing The Stormlight Archive. Such a prolific author

I'd prefer batch releases, especially if it's the entire series all at once. I like reading things on my own time.

Indifferent as long as the releases drop with the same content that is in one tankobon.

I like batch releases since it makes you less dependant on checking a series every day to see if it's out (especially in series with short episodes).

I sometimes even wait for the chapters to build up on some comic strips I read with an irregular schedule, because, otherwise I lose more time checking them out individually, than actually reading them.

I like batch releases. But some series are unique and interesting enough where I would prefer or value a regular release schedule. Almost all isekais are better as a batch release imo. I anxiously wait for the weekly/monthly releases for series like Akatsuki no Yona or Eleceed.

Depends. If it's a completed series, or something that has a large backlog to catch up to, then I'm okay with batch releases. But if it's an ongoing one that the group's caught up to, then whenever they complete the chapter. It doesn't have to be immediately after the chapter is released (this is volunteer work after all), but it's fun being able to talk and speculate with people who also don't know what's going to happen next. Also, there's a sniping issue if it takes too long. There's different reasons why people might scanlate their own version, but I just feel bad for wasted effort

Indifferent. I know why that happens, because i was part of scanlation team myself, so i am mostly understanding of this...

It really depends. In some cases I'm indifferent (some groups have historically done volume releases for ancient series and those have worked fine), but I voted No because I have also encountered groups that have batched weekly or monthly series they were already caught up on that I just wanted to stay caught up on. Meanwhile, I have never encountered any counter-balance--a situation where I would distinctly vote "yes".

So based on my own experience, it's like 80% "indifferent" and 20% "no" and 0% "yes". If it was even 10% "yes" I probably would've voted indifferent, but because it's 0% "yes", I took these weights and chose to vote "no".

I like the bulk releases if the series isn't ongoing.

I mean as long as it's a good job and they doesn't try to get "extra profit" from it I'm totally fine with either way mmm...

Well, as long as they're consistent about it, it doesn't matter. Otherwise, I prefer they just upload the new chapter after it was finished. But considering scanlators often have irregular schedules, my answer is no. 😅
