The "mute" option so overwhelming won that it's not interesting, so we're redoing the poll without that option. Now struggle with your choices.

You can submit poll ideas here

Previous Poll Results:
Question: Would you rather be
Choices:
Mute - votes: 3581 (92.3%)
Blind - votes: 61 (1.6%)

There were 3879 total votes.

Well, it was obvious that "mute" would win easily, come on... It doesn't surprise anyone, I'm sure. Aaaand- it's also obvious that "deaf" will win this time. Too easy, IMHO, sorry.

No one want to be blind.
If you're blind you can't read manga.

Here is a better question:
Would you rather be Blind or lose All your Other Senses instead? Let's just stick to the other 4 you learn of as a kid and not be scientifically accurate as there are way more than 5. Going with sight over all other senses might be rather dangerous. I might do even that but I would need to ask a doctor or 2 first.

Be unable to read manga or be unable to listen to music.
Hearing aids seem to be getting better so...

Hm... Well, I know some people who are legally blind but can still somewhat see. If it's just to that extent, I'd rather be partially blind more than completely deaf.

Deaf. Lack of hearing can be compensated for with sign language, lip reading, closed captions etc. but there’s really nothing adequate to replace vision.

My first thought was ‘lose all my other senses’ but then I remembered touch. Not sure how functional one could be without touch.

I'm already deaf in one ear so I guess I might as well be full blown deaf lol. I'd rather see things than not. With sight, I can still at least watch anime, watch movies or youtube videos with subtitles, and read manga. I can also see faces, nature, and all sorts of wonderful things.

Same thoughts. I picked blind by the way. I just couldn't cope without hearing. My anxiety would be through the roof.

(Though, I am consider partially blind by the government metrics, but corrective glasses fix that for me.)

I believe it would be near impossible to walk or chew if you can't feel anything mmm...
You need to carefully see every of your action or you'll just die touching or eating something wrong mmm...

I'd prefer it to being deaf. I'd still be able to listen to music. And you can use audio books or screen readers for reading.

Yep there's a difference between being legally blind and not being able to see at all. And it's the same with hearing, someone can be considered deaf but still be able to hear up to a certain level. But I'm assuming for this poll, they are asking if people would rather be completely blind or completely deaf.

I picked deaf cause unless I'd get some powers like Daredevil (Matt Murdock) then I'd have to drop all sports and outdoor exercise, as well as leaving myself at the mercy of strangers - that they don't scam you or attack and rob you.

I have a question though, because a lot of people mention legally blind. Is the blind/deaf thing just some disability we'd have that falls within the legal extent of it or fully blind/deaf? Also, is it a disability or some weird magic curse type thing? Cause for the medical one, like mute, there is an option to use this strip thing/tattoo that goes on a person's throat. So is the use of medical tech allowed as a work around?

I have to think there would be constant injuries unless you were bedridden. Sprained fingers come to mind (shudder).

There's an old series of fantasy novels, "The Chronicles of Thomas Covenant", in which the title character has completely lost his sense of touch due to leprosy. So he makes various adjustments to his daily life to deal with this, almost to the point of OCD, before he starts getting isekaied into a fantasy land where he sometimes recovers. This creates significant dissonance for him, since believing in the fantasy land and his recovery risks losing his necessary behavioral adjustments in the real world.

Not that I recommend the series, mind you, unless you have a strong stomach for unsympathetic protagonists and purple prose.

As to the poll, I recall reading an article some years back which claimed studies showed that going deaf is one of the very few things that has a consistently big long-term negative impact on people psychologically, and listed blindness among various surprising things that does not. Google isn't finding it for me now, though, and I haven't found any proper comparative studies to support the claim, either...

Anyway, going deaf seems more isolating under normal circumstances, as far as in-person interactions are concerned. I've encountered several blind people in the course of my hobbies, but no deaf people—and these are activities that'd normally be considered mostly visual. If current conditions continue indefinitely, however, I'd prefer deafness to blindness.

I put deaf . I guess it's because I'd just finished reading ,but after thinking again I'd prefer being blind because it's way too difficult to effectively communicate if you're deaf.

I would't be able to cope with thinking faster than I can communicate, while not being able to use my hands at the same time (or in the case you can speak, having to pay atención to the interlocutor without looking at what you're doing) ,I'd feel really frustrated .Not being able to communicate in other languages orally is also a big barrier. (Sign language isn't unified either).
