This week's poll is about your favorite musical genre (prompted by a similar suggestion by jacob66). We haven't done this poll for over a decade, so maybe tastes have changed. The list of genres was taken from this Wikipedia article, so don't get made at me that your favorite didn't make it onto the list. If your favorite is considered a subgenre within a listed choice, just pick that choice (such as indie is under rock).

Jazz. I can always go back to it and it usually is what I use as a template to understand other music. I like bluegrass as I can hear jazz styles in its infancy; I like hip hop beats & electronics if I can hear jazz inspirations. From there, I can explore beyond the jazz, but I always start there.

On another note, I wish people would stop calling "western classical music" "art music".

I like Electronica, pop, classical, and metal music (in that order). I'm not too confident since music has a lot of sub-genres so I might categorize it wrong.

Anyways! I quite like things from Megarex: Techcore Evangelix 01 and Ultra Hitech 04. Eastnewsound was my gateway to Japanese trance and electronica, this song in particular.

I love Kpop. Been listening to it since the SNSD/DBSK days. There's some american pop songs that are alright too. Lately, I've been digging Kep1er's MVSK. It's a bop~. I used to go to a lot of kpop concerts and my last concert was to see JYJ. ;-;

For classical music, I really love these pieces: Rachmaninoff Piano Concerto No 2, Antonin Dvorak Slavonic Dance op 72 No 2, and Aleksandr Borodin Polovetsian Dances. There's many more pieces I have in mind but I find myself replaying these three in particular (:

As for metal, it's been a while since I've listened to anything new but one of my top fave genres (:

I'm partial to jazz as a trumpet and sax player. Duke Ellington, Count Basie, Woody Herman, big band stuff. I like a lot of classical/symphony music as well.

I listen to a lot of different genres, but I'd have to say rock and pop are my top choices.

I listen to a lot of Pop, Electronic, Rock, Classical, Funk, and some Jazz.
Gave my vote to Pop, although I'm not sure if I listen to it more than Rock.

I chose metal. But here's my caveat. I mostly like Power Metal, which gives me uplifting good vibes compared to a more stereotypically darker take on metal. My top favorite bands in this genre are Sabaton (About historical wars and battles), Brothers of Metal (about Norse Mythology), Civil War (also about historical wars and battles) and Powerwolf (Has themes of Christianity, Vampires, Werewolves and one song "Venom of Venus" which makes me think of Greek Myth for obvious namedrop reasons). I also like Birog's Oath by SuidAkrA (probably the only song from their catalogue I like and can understand) and Mighty Polish Tank by Sabadu (in their case, they've only released two songs including this one so far).

So if anyone here has any recommendations based on my taste, I'm all ears.
