seinen prefered. Action based. NO comedy prefered.

IE: Vagabond, Texhnolyzed (anime), and Rurouni Kenshin (OVA Samurai X)

Edit: I would like to also add that considerable mental battle must occur in the main character, as in an inner struggle despite his outer silence. That would be preferred

Claymore
Kurogane
Ares not the main character but one of the three main characters
Monster kind of
ES kind of, I don't think it's your genre but still...
Kurozuka I don't if you can consider him a silent protagonist, but I'm pointing it out anyway...

hmm
Darker Than Black (anime) it's seinen, action and the protagonist speaks only when necessary though i don't know if there is mental struggle

it also has a manga though it's still new so there's not much chapters yet. the title of the manga is Darker than Black: Shikkoku no Hana because there is also a shoujo one

I dunno why I keep recommending this one today, but...

Homunculus.

The main guy is quiet and weird and profound - also very messed up, but trying to work things out. Should give you plenty of that inner struggle you're looking for.
