I'm pretty sure that even though they'll start with mainly Viz stuff, they want to get their hands on anything they can license, and to use as many scanlations (that are volunteered by anyone who volunteers them, note - not paid for) and then make big profits (I mean, projections of 500k or more over a year for the big three? lolwut)

They've researched everything, being on the scene for all those years. They plan on providing pay-and-read-onine versions of licensed mangas and so forth. What I want to know is... how could they have underestimated the scene so badly. I mean, they're distributing it online on a pay-to-view basis... why should I pay for something I can't even physically own when someone can do it for free (aka scanlate it). It's just absurd.
They're merely addressing the issues brought forth on page 10 on what makes scanslations so popular...granted they will never be able to address the pricing issue as it's free, but they're trying since digital copies are faster, cheaper and accessible anywhere.
Since they are basing their business model on the assumption that people would be willing to buy official copies of titles that they've already read scans of, especially if those said issues were addressed.

Still too early to say. They could have their own translations and not use scans by investing on translators and editors since it's not a hard copy but soft copy so they don't have to invest too much on printing...though I have to agree that the prediction is too optimistic.

Their central policy, however, revolves around pay-to-view, it's not even like tazmo's pay and download. Why? because all one has to do is upload the file, and everything will be a-ok for the pirates, but this won't happen. Mangahelpers planned(plans?) on dominating this new market segment, again, it says so in their business plan.

If I can't pay for the book, what makes them think I'll pay for a scanlation.
If I were to pay for it, I'd rather have a hard copy I can hold in my hands

Heh, exactly.

You could have fooled me.
You make some good points though, but all we can do is wait I guess.

Yeah... I suppose. But wait for what, exactly? I mean their official statement doesn't even deny anything.

Well, most of all, Viz's response, along with some more details on things. They need to have an open discussion with people or something, maybe that would help them keep some of their userbase if people new exactly what would happen.

I seriously doubt this plan will go into motion anytime soon, someone out there blew the lid off this thing and exposed it to everyone. Obviously, Mangahelpers is going to push back on these plans. So the "waiting for viz's take", is... not really viable.

The longer they hold off a Q&A session, the more people they'll lose...

I'm probably mistaken, but was the leak not of an already sent email and plan? If so, its not like they can take back the proposal.

No, they hadn't approached Viz yet, like I said, someone blew the lid off before they could do so...

Ah, ok then, well either way, not like there's much to do but wait and see what happens.

wait...
Pay to view? like pay per view? fuck that
Internet is to find FREE stuff, anywhere/everywhere and no one is going to change that!!!... Digital information MUST always be free, because an unlimited amount of copies can be made, and as such the fucking market rules of supply and demand don't apply (stupid rules, that create scarcity in order to have better profits... anyway)
If I can buy a psychical copy of the thing, THEN I may buy stuff from the internet, if not (like in this case) then is pointless to pay for it.
If they want profits, they have to do it, through ads, not through the users.

Making money off scans is wrong no matter how you look at it.
So selling manga in book form is any different?
Oh please. Who spent the time to write up the story and draw it? The creator(s). They deserve the money, which they get through the publisher producing and translating their books. Making money off of someone else's work without compensation is wrong. Sure they buy the buy the books, but that's pretty much one copy being reproduced and given to many people.
I was talking about the publishers. And if viz was getting involved and money as well I'm pretty sure they'd still be paying the original creators money.
Not necessarily, in order to do that Viz would have get licensing rights, which is a lengthy process. What about mangas that already have an English publisher?

And also if you're on the side of scans i remind you that scans aren't giving them any money at all. At most what they pay for one volume of manga or issue of a magazine. And then its distributed to a mass of people who don't pay a cent. I'm sure if they're going to truly legitimize or whatever they'd pay the mangaka's their fair share.
I just said that. The only reason I read scans, is I would never get a chance to to read that manga. So technically I'm not really a lost sale anyway. Unless I learned Japanese, which won't happen anytime soon.

Well so MH has to pay scanlators a % of its profits for each scanlation and problem resolved
