FAIR WARNING: This thread will be practically incomprehensible to anyone that doesn't enjoy gay subtext. laugh Inspired by wolf_unknown who said that Yu Yu Hakusho was pretty damn gay, even without the "slash goggles". Lol.

Have you ever read a manga that definitely wasn't BL, but something about it still made you think: "Uh... Isn't that really gay?" And not just once or twice - I mean over and over again, to the point where you had to blink and look at the genre listing again, to make sure that it wasn't actually BL. biggrin

My favorite gayest non-yaoi series have to be:

Boku Wa Ne - I'm starting to think that the only reason it's "straight" is because it's through the point of view of a little kid, who simply isn't interpreting what happens between his father and his father's "best friend" in a gay way. Lol. Am I ever so glad I'm not an elementary-school kid! 'Cause I can catch that subtext, oh yeah. (Ok so I also don't think that anything literally gay is happening, but it could be and everything about the story would still make sense - actually it would make more sense, that's how gay the manga is.)

07-Ghost - There's just... too much gayness between Teito and his first best friend, then his second best friend, not to mention the priest Frau. I mean really...

Ookiku Furikabutte - Too much hand-holding and blushing to be entirely straight. bigrazz But the whole manga's so damn pure it makes me feel guilty for thinking such things... But then again there's always Tajima.

Here is Greenwood - Does contain gay characters, but not among the "main" characters who are ostensibly straight. Despite that these "straight" guys somehow manage to have really gay vibes between them anyway. o_o

Ilegenes - I do not understand why this isn't shounen ai. There aren't even any girls. Like, at all. The only people those boys can have romantic/sexual tension with is each other... And the place the manga is set in is called The Genetic SODOM. I kid you not.

Please, Jeeves - Just as gay as the original books. biggrin

Kuroshitsuji - Ok so they're only blatantly playing up the gayness in order to expand popularity among the massive fujoshi fanbase, but it works. (I can vouch for it. As a member of said fanbase. bigrazz )

I have also heard that Get Backers is really gay, but have yet to confirm this in person. What do you think?

Lol. Any other suggestions are welcome.

The anime is gayer than the manga biggrin

About Ilegenes, give it some times. After all, Kuwabara Mizuna took 20 volumes before she made Naoe smexing Takaya in Mirage of Blaze laugh

Angel sanctuary for example, there were so much possible gay couples. And others series from Yuki Kaori, Godchild and The Cain Saga.
Basara
But they are actually shoujo´s, and pretty many shoujo´s have this feel in them.

hmm. You forgot Death note. But anime was more gayish than manga.

I think that Hikaru no go was gayish. There was a period, when I thought that Akira was a girl! I´m serious.

Akusaga-but there were bishies to blame.

And now will everybody hate me, but I had this throught about Old boy manga too. I´m surprised that I came to this. lol

Clamp

...Sorry for my English...

This!!
Only seen maybe 6 or 7 episodes of the anime, but it felt like I was watching the life story of some boy-band.

Yes. GetBackers is quite gay. The anime was even gayer tho.
But alot of pseudo-shounen series done by women tend to have at least some gay subtext. A lot of shoujo manga share that trait as well ^^

Anyway, others I can think if are:

Zone-00 - It goes overboard with the fanservice
Berserk - In some way
Blade Sangokushi - Especially concerning Sun Ce/Zhou Yu & Toki/Paul
The World Is Mine - Wow. You just gotta read it to get it.
Jojo's Bizarre Adventure - I don't even know where to begin with this one...
Nangoku Shounen Papuwa-kun & Papuwa - SO.GAY

Oh yes! Get Backers, Nabari no Ou and Kuroshitsuji are so gay. But I think there is still one ABSOLUTELY gay manga missing.
Naruto
come on. The friendship between Naruto and Sasuke isn´t normal. This was the first manga I thought of when I found this thread. wink

Er, I thought this was why we already had a pure subtext thread going.

How could you forget Prince of Tennis? Could anything be gayer than posing on a tiger-striped couch?

Also Hetalia Axis Powers (Judging from the number of DJs about it). And speaking of Kaori Yuki, just about anything by You Higiri is covertly/overtly gay. (Cantarella, Crown, Seimaden)

Let's face it, many shoujo (and shounen) manga are slashy. (It's what makes them fun) ;D

Yeah, I'm going to have to agree and also say Ilegenes and Akusaga. And I have never even read Kuroshitsuji but I've seen random manga exerts and I thought it was a yaoi.
