These criticisms of Obama's actions are but further support that Americans understand little to nothing of manners, etiquette, and respect for foreign culture and customs...

Uh doesnt matter. Customs, its all about customs. IF he kissed a man on the cheeks because of customs, i bet people would call him gay. He even said that the US could learn a few things from China, but its not like hes talking about communism. He talks about their education, ability to use money, abundance of jobs, high literacy rate, and respect for elders. This might cause some people to think hes a communist. There will always be critics out there. none

If you seen this comment:

Actually, on a Japanese website, a lot people were complaining that Obama did not bow right and that he was ignorant and they found it offensive. They also called him a number of racial slurs, but that's beside the point.

Apparently, neither does those Japanese.... laugh

Couldn't have said it better.

I admit with the Emperor not bowing accordingly it isn't the symmetrical picture we should be seeing. I do think a slightly less inclined bow would have been more appropriate, but my guess is that by the time Obama realized how short the Emperor was, he was already inclined much further than he may have planned.

What that is, is just old fuck hillbilly redneck republicans trying their hardest to make the black president look like a terrorist. It's called fucking DIPLOMACY. Respect for other nations and cultures. Every president before him did it too

Excuse my language, but the fact that everything Obama does is looked as he's gonna get nuked for it. Seriously? Does it matter? What's missing is people starting to criticize the way he walks.

The fly incident... oh god...

The criticism of the Japanese are not justified either, they should give recognition of Obama's effort to respect cultural customs, bowing is practice in humility and I think that Obama was brave in doing so and should respected for it

Me, I just think he bowed so low because the emperor is really short.

Just my opinion. I don't think it really matters, though.

So what. He was trying to be polite and respectful. Though I think shaking hands would've been wiser, just to avoid the media hype and fanatics.

It doesn't represent submission, but respect. He's the one who's visiting the emperor. It's stupid when people think they're somehow too good to show proper respect to others. Besides, Obama is so young compared to the emperor that it's even more of a reason to do so. If the president of US does it, then it's huge, but if some other president does it, no one cares. US is making themselves look bad.

Of course there's some who criticised Obamas bow, but it's still alot more positive than how US viewd it. At least he tried.

And if there was no more prejudice in this world, we wouldn't even be taking about this in the first place.

Eh, the right wing is just trying to find things to bitch about. I didn't see it as any big deal, other than an appropriate display of cultural understanding, not "deference to another power".

Yeesh. There are so many other things the media and politicians ought to focus on.

You either bow or shake hands, right? You don't do both like that. Or something.

I personally just feel instinctively embarrassed for anyone who has to deal with lots of foreign leaders. You're always going to do something wrong.

The only thing that really interests me about this image is the emperess's kimono. So pretty~!
