So if someone finds a female comedian to be funny they don't understand humor?

That is more for my own entertainment.
I just felt like making a poll which insults you for whatever choice you make.
Your a misogynist because you vote that women aren't funny. Who are you to say who is funny or not. You must feel you are superior to women.
You have no sense of humour because you vote that women are funny. I just stated women aren't funny thus you don't know what funny is.
You are a Gynophobe because you say you don't know if women are funny. If you pick this you honestly do know women aren't funny, your just too scared of women to admit it.

None of those have any real basis and you can just ignore em if you want. As I said, it's just for my personal entertainment.

I would also like to clear something up.
I feel that real humour is universal. If something is funny, it's funny. You may enjoy certain types of humour more than others, but funny is still funny.
Now I see women tell jokes amongst themselves and crack up while getting blank stares or shrugs from men.
Yet jokes told by men that other men enjoy often also gets laughs out of women.
To summarize, females can make females laugh, but not males.
Males can make males laugh and also females.
Therefore women are not funny.

BTW, has anyone of you even clicked the links I put in my opening post?

But the problem is that it's easier for a man to make a woman
laugh than vice versa.

When will these boys realize that a lot of women pretend to laugh at a man's joke, even when it's not funny?

Exactly. Most women are good with faking a laugh too.

Stupid poll, btw. none (It's for you personal entertainment? heh...)

Personally, I see that as men having a limited sense of humor. I think they just don't get a woman's type of humor but a woman can appreciate a man's type of humor. Or maybe that's just me in denial that women are wasting their time laughing at sh!t that isn't even funny.

Yes, but I nearly fell asleep reading/watching them. You would think something about humor would at least be a little bit funny.

As a woman, I'll admit I'm not funny at all. I love humor but can't make a joke for the life of me.

That said, being funny isn't a gender thing. My best girl friend has sensational wit. Though it comes up at the wrong timing, like when I bashed into another car or accidentally pushed an old lady down the stairs.

But people laugh at a variety of things. I suppose it mostly depends on what you personally find funny.

You're right, women in general aren't funny.
Men aren't much better either. They just have funnier personalities, a.k.a they aren't as reserved therefore tend to blurt out the first thing that comes out of their head no matter how stupid and random it is. Also, it's what you grow up watching I believe. As a kid I grew up watching an obscene amount of Simpsons and newspaper funnies so it might have something to do with it...

Though as a woman who is funny (I've been told by a huge gay black man to do stand up comedy) and I have never failed to make anyone laugh while still retaining my dignity; I can honestly say that a good amount of women AREN'T funny.

However I also believe a lot of male humor is a bunch of crap that's only funny if you've smoked half a pound of weed beforehand.

So let's cut to the chase, funny people are funny whether you're a woman or a man. Just because you've never met a funny woman doesn't mean crap except that the women in your life probably didn't like you enough to crack jokes for you.

have i met women that are really funny? lol, no.
have i met guys that are really funny? lol, no.
have i met retarded men and women? hell yeah

the reason why women generally tend to laugh with men's joke is because women are more, in the social sense, got this from my textbook smile, likely to want to please those that are around them and have a maybe even more overwhelming decide to connect. people laugh and smile, universal traits that was developed to communicate and keep groups together, the same as frowns and scowls, because they want to get the message across that they understand, connect and are willing to connect more. in the social context, men are much more competitive, simply because they were geared that way so that they could dominate in their social group and thus, when displeased, would frown, look blank or scowl at others to show this and their dominance. for women to get along with the dominant male and leader of their group and for simply their own survival, they had develop a way to connect with the dominant male in a way that was pleasing to the dominant male. that's why women and men are the way they are now. so are women funny?

from a male's perspective, maybe not because their criteria and simple setup, gear them not to. they don't have the need to please those around them, more likely to either find things funny just because they think they are.

women find things funny, for the most part, in order to connect with those around them, because they're also simply set up that way. so in truth, are males really funny or women just laughing because they've been developed to?

Maybe this just means that your sense of humor is very obscure.

I have many things to say. Get ready. biggrin

I have never met a guy who could make me more than chuckle. The only people who make me truly LOL are women. Therefore, following the same generalizing and simple-minded logic that seems to be rampant in this thread, only women are funny. Nanananana. I win. bigrazz

Now, some people will read the above paragraph and crack a grin, and others will flip their screen the bird. Humor is NOT universal. Doctors laugh at death all the time to keep loose while everyone else would cringe at the joke; different cultures have a different definition of "funny" that can be affected by language and social values. While many people would love a good sexist joke, I would become angry. It seems a little naive to assume people all laugh at the same things. And don't give any "they don't have to laugh for it to be funny" crap. Universal humor would mean everybody at least gets a giggle. But I don't know much about the many facets of humor, so I should move on quickly.

I don't want to back anybody into a corner, but what the hell are you complaining about? A misogynist is someone who hates women. Do you hate them? You obviously don't think they're funny, so I would just call you sexist. Whether you like it or not, you have made a generalization about a group of people (half the population, no less!) and that means you will be questioned and labeled as someone who has unjustly put a label on others. That's the way it goes. If you have something so controversial to say, get ready for the backlash, buddy. It always amazes me when people are so ready to throw stereotypes around like absolute truth, and then the moment they are called out, they cry foul. You can say whatever you want--- I can't stop you--- but be prepared for the consequences of what you say and just own up it. You are sexist, there is no doubt. Welcome to the world. I have to take labels every day of my life; most of them are directed towards women especially just to make them feel like crap. Ever been seriously called a slut, bitch, or whore? No, for you, it's probably been reserved to "huge dick" but even that sounds like a compliment out of context. Even if you were called a bitch, that implies that being a woman is the worst insult ever, since a bitch is, after all, a female dog. Long rant short, you made a sexist comment, so don't start crying when someone dares to call you out on it.

I'd like to know what you're quoting. Are you claiming that this is the nature of all women? Ever heard of a matriarchy? The Aka tribe of Africa is built entirely opposite of our own society. Men cook, care for children, and even let crying babies suck on their nipples while women hunt and lead the tribe. Seriously, look that up, I'm not lying. There are other examples of women hunters in other tribes, such as the Matis of the Amazon. But now I'm getting off-topic just to prove a point.

To wrap this long reply up, this is what I think about humor between the sexes: they're both funny. Whatever someone thinks is funny is funny to them. Unfortunately, the role of women and men in our society is set at birth (blue rooms for boys, pink for girls, etc.) and as a result, the sexes develop very differently. Another example: while girls are expected to protect their virginity, it's implied that boys can't wait to lose it. It's extremely difficult to draw the line between female nature and male nature because we as a society skew everything until it is mangled beyond recognition. One fact: women are seen as inferior in our society. This thread is doing nothing to help the plight of women.

That little girl in the grocery store who said "40% less sugar? I don't like that!" was also pretty funny.

What's with the personal attack? I would like a real discussion here with solid arguments. A personal attack is no solid argument in any discussion.
My point was, same as with Hitchens, that women in general simply are not funny. You say the same thing. It doesn't mean a woman cannot be funny, they just tend not to be.
And as I said, female humour doesn't carry over to the male side whilst male humour does.
An example from a joke one of my sisters told their friends which cracked them up but made me shrug my head.
I can't say the specifics, it was about 5 years back, but the point of the joke was an anecdote about a girl they know that went to a club wearing shoes that did not match with a certain top.
I fail to see the humour in mismatching clothing.
And of course a lot of male humour is just plain retarded as well. I've seen my share of stand up from men that made me leave and demand a refund at the entrance.
You could also just simply say that taken as a whole and on average women are less funny than men.

I have to say, I don't like the poll choices. If you wanted a good discussion, then why did you put up such heavily biased options? (or is that supposed to be... a joke?)

From my own experience I've known many funny women. The kind that can get a whole room laughing regardless of who's in it, so it's kind of hard for me to relate to this topic. I'm actually surprised that so many of you don't think women are funny.

Hmmm?? I think you're missing something here. This is not a logic deduction.

Some people enjoy certain types of humor not at all. In your opinion, what is the standard for basing humor quality?

This is probably a troll, yeah.

But that said, I defy anyone to watch some Margaret Cho (I recommend I'm the One That I Want) and not find it funny. If you can keep a straight face when she talks about her mom- THAT'S when you probably don't understand comedy.
