Why are mostly all men in shounen forgettable, throw-away Average Joes? Because your average guy can identify with them, place himself mentally into the situations in the story, and imagine that he, too, has a harem of twelve attractive girls attending to his every whim (or whatever the case may be). The men in a lot of shounen are forgettable, but the artists make sure the girls are distinct. It's the opposite in shoujo.

That's probably part of the reason why shoujo heroines have smaller chests. A lot of girls can identify with that. *shrugs*

For the same reason shounen romance protagonists are never bishounen.

I wouldn't say never, I've seen my share of physically attractive male leads in shounens. BUT they arnt bishonen as in how shoujo depicts them.(Tall, broad shoulders, long face)

Anyways, I like it that shoujos don't have big breasted main character! If I wanted that, I could just read the many ecchi mangas that I have on my reading list. But, breasts that are too big are not attractive.

I personally think it's because the mangaka wants the female reader to be able to relate to the shoujo heroine. Thus it is why most shoujo manga depicts a situation in which overly-attractive boy is attracted towards a normal average girl. MTV shows work this way, and so do a lot of books. How else did Twilight gain such popularity? Because it appealed to awkward teenagers (Bella's awkward as @#$%)

Indubitably, I agree to the max.
This genre is for las chicas, and what girl wants to look at a DD-cup when she can have a hot, sexy bishounen. Not to mention, the big-breasted girls are often minor characters or side-kicks. Besides, in shounen manga, almost all the females (lead or minor) have huge chests. It's only even.

Because it's shoujo not some ecchi or harem shounen and it's not hentai, that's why!

because shoujo is reading for girsl? unlike shounen that for male readers, girl readers don't really need characters that have silicon boobs to make them read manga lol bigrazz
If you want to see boobs, read shounen, harem, ecchi, or hentai

Maybe they do have breasts, but they're not drawn so that they're practically popping out of their shirts? And let's be realistic, if you're as thin, tiny, or petite as some of those girls in shoujo are drawn, then it's pretty likely that they'll be A cups.

Girls read shoujou and we care more about the story of love conquering all than the body shapes of the characters. In fact, I actually dislike it when the female lead has ridiculously large boobs in a romance. Not only do I automatically think he's just dating her for her unnatural bust size, but as a girl, I find it hard to relate to a female with double F's. Another theory is that a lot of shoujou take place in a high school setting and high school girls, at least girls at my high school, are not normally that well-endowed. no

Yep. Not to mention bust size is usually proportional to one's body size, and shoujo girls have an image of a thin and pretty person, so it would be weird from a logic pov to have someone of that bdy ize with a bust that's twice as large. Also, the enormous busts in ecchi and hentai mangas are pretty much nonexistent in today's world without plastic surgery.

I agree with chineserider.
Girls in shoujo manga are generally portrayed as pretty because they are thin and petite. If they also had large breasts it would almost be a negative message to girls that not only should they strive to be thin, but that they also need to have plastic surgery done to increase their bust size, and that's never a positive message to send to young girls. Besides, girls grow up idolizing runway models as being "pretty" and runway models are never busty. I think the basis for a flat female character has to do with the female idea of what a pretty girl looks like. I think most girls would rather be thin and flat rather than a larger size and with a larger bust line.

well, lately i noticed some bustier heroines. Ichigo of Tokyo Mew Mew (remember she is 12)
and Yukina from Watashi ni xx Shinasai!
also Yuki kaori stated she had a big breasts fetish..

i think that most mangaka only have inferiority complexes because of their chest seizes xD
