i know i posted here before, but today i got this idea in my head....
well, first off. I'm an atheist. what i do believe in is nature. i believe nature transforms all the time, and vegetarianism is one of the symptoms.

what everyone here should know (contrary to some opinions i read here before) humans are NOT CARNIVORES. and before the yells of fury rise, we are not vegetarian, either.
human beings are OMNIVOROUS. it means, that just like rats, we could eat ANYTHING.
in the great scheme of things, it means we still have directions to develop into, we are not the "final version".
in ancient time, humans races were developed by the places people chose to live at. bodies changed accordingly to the conditions presented.
in our era, those lines are slowly erased, and these races are disappearing. instead, we choose, among other things, our food.

so i believe that future versions of humans will no longer be Omnivorous.
we can see these changes today. most of us are still Omnivorous, yes.
but some of us turn vegetarian, and stop eating live or dead animals.
some of us are, with lack of a better word, "Scavengers", who prefer eating dead animals over the other options (this would include all those ppl who only eat McDonald's ALL the time).
and some of us are carnivores, who eat... live animals and kill them with their teeth or tools and then eat them uncooked.

now, to some ppl this theory might sound like a victory of their diets over other diets. I mean, the survival of the strong, and the food chain and all that crap. in the future omnivorous races will most likely hunt and eat the vegetarian races.

but looking at our earth today, I as a vegetarian, am smirking biggrin the strongest survive?
that would mean vegetarians will conquer the world! laugh

ask yourself this: are there more bunnies or lions in the world? bunnies or wolves?
and which species is most likely to starve in the snow, or in the heat, while the other happily munches munches munches all the time, non stop? smile

so when choosing a race for your descendants, which is what we all doing here, would you rather them being the race that can survive weeks without food and at the top of the food chain, while constantly hungry and in most cases lonely, OR would you rather them being the race that is always on their feet looking for predators, but has sex all the time and munches like there is no tomorrow?

tough choice. roll eyes

I'm a vegartarian now, almost a year, but for 16 years I ate meat ALL THE TIME. But I made a bet against my uncle not to eat meat for a month, but then I got into a habit of avoiding meat, so I stayed a vegetatian. THEN I watched a documentary on how farm workers treat the animals that are livestock and that made me sick, so I never thought about going back. See this video if you think eating meat is worth it.

I LOVE meat, but my sister went vegetarian a few months ago- well we still eat fish, i'm not that knowledgeable about this stuff so i don't know if it's still "vegetarian". To support her, my mom went vegetarian as well and i said that i would only eat meat once a week, if that, to support her (sometimes i just crave a hamburger!) >.< sorry.

She saw a documentary about how they treat the animals and that's why she gave up meat.

It's not so bad and I actually feel healthier since (sorta) cutting meat out of my diet. Good thing my second favorite food is sushi. smile

I happen to find it interesting that while your an atheist, and I firmly believe in a creator, we both believe in a similar outcome. (^_^)

Pardon me for cutting out a bunch of your post, for I did find it interesting, but I didn't want to clog up the board.

I am a vegetarian, not for religious reasons mind you, for the bible does say god gave us meat to eat, and thus I respect those who chose to eat it. It's just a personal choice of mine not to, for the idea of eating meat truly disgusts me now. xP Yep, I watched a documentary on it, and yep, it was really horrible. I do cook it for others tho, but I haven't eaten it in so long, it rarely registers as food anymore.

Vegetarian... Whenever I eat meat I feel like throwing up. laugh But saying that you're a vegetarian can really save you from people trying to make you eat meat from disgusting parts of animals... ._.;

Being vegetarian, and in fact being vegan has been proven to give ample amount of health benefits and prevent heart disease. It is a great solution to a large amount of health problems common in the western world. Would I ever be vegan or vegetarian? Hell no! I simply love the taste of meat and hate the taste of vegetables. I can tolerate lettuce, and asparagus (asparagus if cooked properly), but most other vegetables I loathe (I mean wth! A daisy and grass salad? Last I check daisy leaves are WEEDS). If i was ever forced to become vegan or vegetarian, my diet would consist 90% of fruits and nuts. I'm just thankful it hasn't come to that. I'm a meat eater and I'll always be on the top of the food chain.

missing out on what? most vegetarians eat stuff that look and taste exactly like meat (or better), and has the same value.

and as far as i'm concerned, people who NEED their meat miss out on the stuff vegetarians eat (most people i know wouldn't touch the substitutes, believing it either makes them less a meat eaters, or just afraid of it being nasty).

---
(see what i did there? i made a whole group of people look like a bunch of insecure addicts based on their diet. wonder how people who are being portrayed as naive, hypocritical straw-heads feel every time someone remarks on theirs?)
---

and yes, i'm a bitter bitter person with unsupportive family.

Nothing tastes exactly like meat. If something does to you then something is wrong with your sense of taste. Why would people who eat meat (among other things) miss out on anything a vegetarian doesn't? Humans are not herbivores, vegetarianism is unnatural to them. Why substitute meat for anything? Substitute is just that, a substitute. If the reasons are religious or economical I can understand that. I don't see any base for your arguments, in fact, you didn't even really give one. I also don't see how you made anyone at all look insecure anything.

Quote from TheShawn
I greatly respect vegetarians for their commitment to the ideal of the sanctity of all life. Sometimes, I find myself feeling guilty for the fact that I eat meat, depriving another animal of life... and then I grill me up a bacon cheeseburger and forget my guilt for three to five days as I revel in a meat coma.

Why should you feel guilty? Just because a person eats meat doesn't mean they don't value animal life.

I am proudly an omnivore. That doesn't mean I don't eat vegetarian dishes. There are all kinds of great food out there and some of it does not involve meat. In fact, some of it is even vegan. embarrassed

I grew up eating meat and I will not give it up. I support animal rights, but ethically speaking I don't believe not eating meat helps the cause. This is my personal opinion.

read the post i made before that one -_-

what you quoted is my mean streak in regards to people who either claim vegetarians dont know what good for them or that any diet is unnatural.
EVERYTHING we do is natural.
i believe saying one diet is unnatural while the other is, is as bad as saying any sexual orientation is unnatural.

food is one of our basic needs, just like sex. everyone has different things they are willing to eat.
