(Sorta misleading title...)

Question:
How would you like your manga in terms of color vs. black/white? Keep in mind that adding color takes longer, so perhaps if it was Naruto, it'd be a chapter every 2 weeks instead of every week. Sometimes color is nice...although some series would be ruined (in my opinion) if it was changed to all color. Those shades of gray are just so nice!

Question: Preference
Choices:
The whole manga in full color! - votes: 2357 (19%)
Color only for the cover, first few pages, and other specials - votes: 7396 (59.6%)
Cover in color, black and white everything else - votes: 2365 (19.1%)
All of it should be black and white - votes: 286 (2.3%)
There were 12404 total votes.
The poll ended: January 2nd 2010

Well I think black and white work well. It seperates it from the American comics which are all done it colour.

'tis nice however to see like the first few pages in colour. Sometimes I see what colour their clothes are supposed to be or something XD so it's nice for reference.

It wouldn't be manga though if it was all in colour. I'd find it really odd. I think the charm of a manga is it's black and white shading.

When it comes to color in the mangas, I like it my mangas colored only for the cover, the first few pages and for the special chapters.

It's always a special treat when some of the pages are colored, but all things considered, I don't think having all the manga I read in color would be a nice thing >< Though if all covers were colored, that'd be an improvement ^^

A part of reading manga is that even in Japan you can have pink hair, so that's not usually specified, and other features would be too apparent if colored. I think all of that would bother me, because although there is a visual, there's room for interpretation.

So. Color only for the cover, first few pages, and other specials.

I don't really mind that much.
Sometimes after reading the first
few coloured pages and reaching the
black and white section, it looks weird,
sometimes I am glad it is in black and
white. Cover should be coloured nevertheless,
unless it's got some minimalistic design or something.

I don't mind black/white. But sometimes color is much better. For example I once read a manga where a few pages were first shown in black/white and then in color. And for me there was a major difference. By the pages in color I could feel the mood much more than the ones in black/white.

I voted for the third option color cover, black and white everything else. Though I'd be fine with the first one too.

I voted for the third because it I've been more impressed with the black and white comics that I have the few full colors ones I've seen.
I'd like to see more mangaka experimenting with color, but no one has fully pulled it off yet it didn't get the vote.

My real preference is anything but the second option, I never understood why it's so common.

An insert or the directory before the story begins is perfectly fine. But hate when the first 2-3 pages of the actual story is color and the rest is black and white. I think it messes with flow, It's all or nothing for me. Also the first manga I ever read like the got me all excited just for a let down.

And just to dispel some misconceptions there are loads of western black & white comics.

I prefer black and white because that way I can fantasize their hair colours, or what colour underwear they're wearing =p

And like tactics said, it separates American comic and manga.

i really like colors!! so i would really love it when parts of or some scenarios of the manga is in full color...but maybe if its in full color it will ba bit distracting because i would not be reading anymore and i would be like "wooooowww...prettty..." and imagine reading Battle Royale in full color...wouldnt that just be a pretty sight?~ wink

Apart from the wapanese saying bullshit like "IT DIFFERENTIATES FRUM DA BAKA GAIJIN," its the same as the last retarded poll. However it was originally drawn/colored is the only right answer. You wouldn't convert something thats colored to grayscale and all attempts to "colorize" invariably look like shit.

I went with the second option because the mangakas would eventually get lazy if the entire manga was in color. So, I'd prefer colored pages as a special treat rather than half-assed coloring throughout.

Besides, it takes some skillz to do nice black & white pages.

None of the poll options apply to me. It doesn't matter what the mangaka chooses to color or not.

Color is always a bonus when it comes to manga but it isn't a deal breaker. A good colorist, whether it was done by the original creator or scanlators can really make a great difference. Of course crap coloring job like any other crap job screws up the enjoyment.

whatever way the artist thinks is best. Just so long as its reproduced that way when/if it gets here. I'm looking at Tokyopop and Viz. They always cheap out and leave out the color pages. Also, I'm a comic book reader so wating a month for the next chapter isn't so bad. eyes

That's bullplop. Plenty of western comics are in black and white. none
