Well Ubisoft is changing old StarForce protection, which required for original game to be inserted in the drive during playing, with new system.

From now on, games released by Ubisoft, starting with Settlers 7 and Assassins Creed 2, will require constant internet connection even for single player mode. You will have to be online during entire gameplay. Your savegames will be stored on Ubisoft servers, although it's possible they will be stored on players PC's as well. This will enable you to play your game from any computer that has it installed, but it will disable players that don't have internet, or have a bad connection from playing. Ubisoft practically sacrificed small portion of players matching this criteria. Also, if your connection breaks, game crashes instantly resulting in the lose of all unsaved data.

I for one, hate this system. It is unfair, discriminating, and very limited towards players, especially those who buy original games. I doubt cracking scene will have much trouble going around this new protection so the ending result will be something like this -

Not to mention they are using some stupid benefits, like exchanging your results with other players and social network of players, as an excuse. Pretty cheap. If you are a fan of conspiracy theories you can have a field day with this stuff. biggrin Who knows what information they could find about you, right?

So, fell free to chose your option and state your opinion of this matter.

Well, considering the new Prince of Persia game is the only one from them I would consider playing, it's no big loss for me.

It's still not the best move, though.

It's messed up that you have to jump through so many hoops just to play a game, but most of us would be doing the same thing if we were losing millions per year.

And personally I'm not affected by all this. I only download old-school games and games that are hard to obtain.

Most of them that download still wont buy the game and some of them that do wont out of disgust, if anything they stand to lose rather then to gain from this. The The world has gone forward and no matter how much you wish for it it will never go back to how it used to be.

you know i've been thinking the reason why they do this is because multiplatform games sell less for pc then console. They blame piracy cause well.......you get it for free, but am i the only one who thinks it might be because casual gamers don't want to keep upgrading their pc every 2 months just to play the latest games? cause that's the reason i play console, just insert disk and you can play, but with the pc i have install this, replace that, adjust this pray to god, curse that damn driver , have hope as the advertisement play then curse as a message telling me it doesn;t work shows up and THEN see my pc can;t play it of some error ARGGGGGGG

uhm....... well my point i don think it will boost sales even with this new system ^^

You liked that new Prince? confused
It was stupid game in my book. Only jumping around, can't lose your life, And like 5 or 6 different enemies to fight.
Sands trilogy was way better.

Couldn't agree more. Those who want to play some game for free will always find a way. What concerns me is that other game publisher are heading in the same direction, like Blizzard. Read this.

They didn't just lose a small portion of their gamers they lost a whole bunch, their new policies are ridiculous and it is also ridiculous to think that someone won't crack it, if it can be made it can be cracked. And LoL at piracy rules

Sorry, I'm not familiar with Ubisoft but what you are referring to are the games for PC, right? I agree D_dragon... I have bought PC games before but that was before. Now, I think twice before buying a game for PC again because of the upgrades and compatibility with the software and the hardware. Most of the time, I stick only with consoles. While I don't mind the constant net connection requirement (as long as it doesn't require monthly paid membership), I do object to having the need for the net when you're playing in single player mode.

in the link you posted it states that if you lose connection the game will pause and try to reconnect, not crash as you said.

not that I'm defending it, but you made it sound a thousand times worse by saying the game will crash =P

This won't boost sales, and honestly, if people really wanted to pirate it, they'd still find away around it anyways.

Ubisoft will take down the system eventually. It WILL be taken down. Just because it costs money to keep up, and in no time they'll realize it costs more than it's worth. In the end, too, they know that the people who pirate will keep pirating, and the people who buy games will be the ones being punished. It's a dog and pony show. (The other popular theory is that "anti-piracy" efforts are to combat game resale. The industry makes no effort to hide that they think it's just as bad as piracy, since they don't get a dime from used game sales.)

As for the "loss" of customers on PC, the (Very Obvious) cause is that more and more games are simply made for consoles and lazily ported to PC, with cruddy interfaces and game play that's clearly not aimed at the interface. The XBox is even a good excuse for Microsoft to actually TRY to kill PC gaming.

But there are still notable exceptions, notable areas of growth, that aren't measured. Downloadable content is growing, but most systems to gauge the industry don't take these figures into account. It's all about the brick and mortar stores, but anyone who's been to a real store lately has seen the diminishing shelf space. If you read sources that take into account downloading services, they often tell a different story, some even going so far as saying that download services like Steam are growing faster than store sales are declining. In the end, the industry is changing, not shrinking.

My computer is a laptop and 4 years old already, so between those two points I haven't been able to play any PC games that have come out in the last 2 to 3 years. All my game-playing is done on my PS3 and with beautiful games like Uncharted 2 and a free, simple to use online service for multiplayer games like Modern Warfare 2 and Borderlands, I no longer see any need to use my PC for games anymore. I think most gamers nowadays are just like me too, and the ones that are PC gamers will only be alienated by these annoying and frankly stupid attempts to combat a largely fictional enemy.

If you look at this site even its the same. Most of the scanslated manga and anime I read or watch I would NEVER in a million years buy if buying it was my only option. On the contrary, the very existence of sites like this have allowed me to become so engaged with the material that I've gone out of my way to buy some 100 tiles of anime and around 200 volumes of manga in both English and Japanese.

It seems they changed it back to the original style, since it's back with the original character and timeline.
