So, this thread reminded me of a show I saw on TV a while ago, like...5 or 6 years...but anyway, it was called "frontier house." Basically two families were forced to live like people did on the American frontier, no electricity, no running water, grow your own food etc. Part of this was no meat unless you kill it yourself. One family had a pig. Said family named the pig (something like Pumpkin or Apricot), and treated it as a pet for a while, but after a certain point, someone began to have an undeniable lust for bacon...Long story short, after much debate, they ate the pig. But the one thing I can't forget is the little kid of the family, after they had killed the pig stating "You can't just let someone else kill your pig, thats just wrong."

In any case, I don't think its wrong, different cultures have different standards.

Personally I wouldn't eat my own or anyone's pet however I have no problem with other people eating their pets. :]

[first, my englisch is bad]

there is nothing wrong with eating anything, if it's normal for the country/continent

i would never eat "things" that we used to have as "pets" like cat,dog,mini-pig,hamster and so on...
but i would never criticise other nations for eating "things" that we have as "pets"

it's the same with the other stuff, we like to eat cows and pigs
In India it's a bloody-no-go to kill cows
in islam it's a no-go to eat pigs

we like penguins and waal's, japanese people and inuit's eat waal....
no country has the right to say "you don't or you must eat this/that"

it's a shame that some animals are vanishing from earths face, but
i could care less about waal or penguin. sure nice animals but nothing you think of it
that much.

it would be another thing if cows or pigs are vanishing, because we eat them.

if the animal was actually someone's pet, then yeah, its wrong. It would be like eating a member of their family.

if it was never someone's pet, then its simply like every other animal we eat.

although i still don't see myself eating dog or cat.

As long as it's killed humanely, I have no problem with people eating dogs, cats, pigs, etc. Unfortunately, many places that eat dogs and cats are fairly uncivilized when it comes to things like that. There was a documentary that I saw a few years back that showed these places, and a common way to kill the animals was to stuff as many as they could in a dumpster, then filling the dumpster with gas.

The animals' terrified screams still haunt me.

It's a matter of belief, believe in nothing, eat whatever you want, believe in Islam, I guess you will never touch pork meat, believe in common sense, you never eat other humans, believe in compassions and links between you and your pets, you will never eat them.

It actually depends. If it is a pet chicken, then I guess you can eat it. Lol. But I don't like seeing people eating cats/dogs/etc, I mean you raised that pet to care and to love not to eat. Lol. eek

i always wondered what human tasted like, not that i want to eat human, just morbid curiosity.

but honestly, animals are food. every animal. and to say its wrong to eat a dog, or a cat, just because they are the common pet here is stupid, and to make it illegal (at least in my area) is sick

Belive in commone sense and you will never eat other humans? Bah, thats not a belif more like common knowledge, and common doesn't always make it right biggrin

We should imbrace human eatings if we imbrace pet eatings hm? If it not for murder why not? If it was legall in another country to eat humans who are we to critisize them hm confused

I wouldn't eat my own pet, but I don't see anything wrong with eating animals considered as pets.

Depends on how emotionally attached the owner is to the animal in question.

From a personal standpoint, I wouldn't eat a pet. I don't disagree with the idea of it, but I have terrible taste in food. I can only stand pig, cow and chicken. Can only eat fish if its in batter too, aheheheh.

I think a few of us are getting off track here. It's not eating pets but animals considered as pets in general.

I don't think it's morally wrong or anything and I think it might be interesting, but I can't bring myself to do it. It's illegal anyways

In America it's only illegal if it is sold.

I vote no. I wouldn't eat my pets, but any domesticated animal is still up for grabs (cats, dogs, guinea pigs, pigs, ect.). It's happened to me before, and i must say it wasn't too bad.
