I'm getting tired of love-crazy female leads who are always trying to "get a boyfriend" or "fall in love" or "confess bravely" or "get over an ex," so I'm looking for something different...

Yeah, I basically want a shoujo/josei heroine who is NOT looking for love, AND has other things more important to her than that (e.g. job, hobbies, family) that she spends most of her time and mental energy on. She's self-sufficient in that sense and doesn't need a "love life" to make her feel complete; therefore she isn't interested in looking for a lover. She has other things she prefers doing.

She may find love in the course of the manga but she is NOT looking for it. Romance really isn't important in her world-view... At least until she finds it without even meaning to! (She doesn't HAVE to find it, either, but she may.)

Examples are Beauty Pop, Hotaru no Hikari, Warau Kanoko-sama, Crimson Hero, Conversational English School Wars, Ashita no Ousama and Midnight Secretary.

Are there any more like these?

Thanks!

I totally understand what you mean. Those girls are so boring and a bit pathetic to be honest.
Try Skip Beat!, Rasetsu no Hana, Ouran High School Host Club, Vampire Knight, Perfect Girl Evolution, Night of the Beasts and Charming Junkie.

I second Ouran High School Host Club and Skip Beat!. However, isn't Yuki kind of looking for romance in Vampire Knight?

Others include Boy of the Female Wolf and He Dedicated to Roses.

Also Angel Diary. Orgasm.

I think Fruits Basket might apply, but you've prob. already read that.

Kimi ni Todoke might apply to some extent too.

Bitter Virgin, maybe? But it might not be what you're looking for. It kinda is, but not the way you're looking for, if that makes sense.

That's all I've got for now.

I should totally go sleep now.

I agree, yuki is kinda looking for love in vampire knight(with kaname) and though it has awesome art i think vampire knight kinda sucks now like in the later chapters with all the forbidden love and whatnot.

Well here are some mangas which doesn't have female leads looking for love but like over the course of the manga they do find it or else it would be boring...

Ruby Doll---such a good manga but one of the worst endings ever really.
Savage Garden---dark atmosphere, awesome art, interesting characters
Love So Life
Shoujo Fight
Saver--definetly not looking for love. This chick is too busy being the chosen one and just being one of the best female leads of all time.
Torikagoshou no Kyou mo Nemutai Juunintachi-- a new one and so far no she doesn't care bot love
Cinderella Fella--she is a genius yet totally clueless about love
She's Scary---i dislike hwang mi ri but this one surpirsingly seemz to be pretty good and the female lead is not bad at all.
Grand Sun--too busy kicking ass
Global Garden---too busy being concerned about her mother.
Eensy-Weensy Monster
Kimi wa Girlfriend
Cat Street--at the beginning she isn't, she falls in love a bit later but that doesn't stop her in her tracks. This manga is more than just falling in love. Its more about friendship and recovering from trauma etc. She doesn't behave as if her whole life depended on the dudez acceptance, she moves on and well read it and see. One of my favourites this one.
Gakuen Alice--little kids running around with special powers. They are really mature though but well hmm maybe dunno... well i know for sure she isn't looking for love.

I'm finding that [m]A Delicious Relationship[/m[ is reminding of Ashita no Ousama, might be the artwork. [m]Nodame Cantabile[/m] comes to mind as well. [m]Skip Beat[/m] perhaps?.If you liked [m] Conversational English School Wars[/m] then I would suggest Kiss and Beauty Honey and Beauty is the Beastby the same manga-ka is you haven't read them - some of them even sort of fit maybe. I second [m] Kimi ni Todoke[/m] mostly because I love it more than I think it fits. Also Say I love you, I don't really think it fits at all but again, love.

Oishii Kankei - I second this one. She's too food-obsessed to care much for love, although she does develop a kind of schoolgirl crush on her boss later on. Plus, it's awesome.
Yokohama Monogatari - My favorite level-headed shoujo girls!
Fusuma Land 4.5 - She doesn't just not care about romance, she abhors it! (She does have a crush on the school pretty boy, though.)
Dark Seed - A really likeable unromantic female lead in an almost entirely romance-less josei.
Kisshou Tennyo - Oh man, this one's something else.
Gin'iro no Kami no Arisa - Not a whit of romance, and a seriously kickass heroine.
Hana no Asukagumi! - Another kickass heroine.
The Tarot Cafe - Too busy with other people's extremely messed-up love lives to care about love.
Fukuyadou Honpo - Too busy with running a sweets shop to care about love.
Gokuraku Seishun Hockey Club - Too obsessed with eating and sleeping to care about love.
Shimotsuma Monogatari - Too obsessed with her weird clothes to care about love.
Catch! Love - Too obsessed with photography to care about love.
Glass no Kamen - Okay, this one is definitely too obsessed with her hobby.
Hoshi wo Tsumu Donna - Not really obsessed with ballet, but too airheaded to care much about love.
Seito Shokun! - Another airhead.
Orpheus no Mado and Rose of Versailles - Too busy living as men to care about love.
Oujo Alexandra - Too busy being ridiculous to care about love.
Karakuri Odetto - Too not-human to care about love.
Banana Bread no Pudding - Too messed up to care about love.
Nemuranai Machi kara - Too young for love.
Cotton - No romance here.
Mahou Kishi Rayearth - I can't remember if there are even any boys here.

I'm a big fan of Maid-sama because of the fact that the heroine isn't looking for love, is actually strong willed, and the guy isn't some womanizing jerk. I might take note of a few of these since outside of Maid-sama, Kimi No Todoke, and Ouran Host Club I've never really gotten into Shoujo or Josei.

I love this thread! Following the previous recommendations, I would say you should try:

- Yankee-kun to Megane-chan. The megane-chan here is too busy being funny and clueless to even think about love.
- Gokusen the girl here is love-obsessed, but you could hardly get that since the story rarely focuses on the main heroine's aspect since it's too busy showing how the girl kicks serious ass as a teacher.
- Penguin Revolution. The heroine here is too busy with her dreams to even notice the two guys who are slowly warming up to her.

Vampire Knight...yeah I guess. Sorry about that. It's been a while since I've read it, I thought that she wasn't really looking for love...ish.

Akuma to Love Song
Gokuraku Seishun Hockey Club

Kanojo o Mamoru 51 no Houhou
The genre/summary may be intimidating but I think you will like it.

Seiyuu Ka-!
Only three chapters but I think that is where it is headed and am desperate to recommend this.

Maybe Avian Wander? I don't think there's any romance at all... so far and the woman is kinda crazy. Okay, crazy but strong. bigrazz

Or Eien no With? She spends her time caring for a dog, I think... there's a bit of romance later but it's not the typical mushy mushy romance.

Seigi no Mikata : This one is more about getting back at her sister, or something...

7 seeds There are 2 heroines and they are both definitely NOT love obsessed 'cos of the environment they are in... hahahaha. Sure, they may be thinking a bit about love but they're too busy trying to stay alive to really bother about that. The first heroine in the series is kinda wimpy at first but she soon grows a lot, to be kinda strong!

If you liked 7 seeds, then you might also like Basara by the same author.

C-Blossom - Case 729 maybe?

Other than that, I don't have much shoujo or josei to recommend. Because I stay away from the bulk of them... *shudder* *shudder*
